WARNING!! DO NOT BUY THE IPHONE 7 PLUS!!!! I'm on my 3rd iphone 7 plus in one month. Each iphone 7 plus has had this ridiculous sound problem!! $800 for an unusable over-hyped nightmare!! I'm through with this over-priced piece of crap. I'll be dumping it for the far superior Galaxay s8.
Well done for posting. I hope people start circulating this video. I had to give up and go back to Android as call quality so awful. Apple have been trying to silence discussions about this on their forums too. Not well handled by them at all.
I tried three new iPhones 7 and all three had poor sound (muffled) when calling someone.They just couldn't hear me properly. In the end I changed it to an iPhone 6S and I had no trouble since.
It appears from Andrew's test and the tests I've done that the microphone is too directional. A simple test with the voice recorder utility shows that the sound level is 10dB down when the phone is used in the natural position. Pivoting the phone around your cheek to position the mic closer to your mouth results in a 10dB improvement. I tried using this, and it resulted in call ends and phantom calls as my cheek touched the screen. I don't see how software updates can fix this problem. I'll give Apple one last shot at accepting responsibility and providing a solution.
Yea my buddy went from a 5s to a 7 and he sounds worse on phone calls, half the time he fades out. Not sure why, maybe because it larger. Apple screwed the pooch on the 7. Taking out the analog port made it sound worse. People are giving it a 1 star review on buying the crappy lightening to analog adapter. One more thing to buy, its breaks, it gets lost and it sounds worse than old port. Fire the goon that pulled the port. I'm never ever getting a iphone 7, keeping my 5 then going android.
I just upgraded from 5S to 7Plus one month ago. I hear the caller fine on my phone, but my voice fades in and out. Apple has replaced the phone twice. I have had at least 50 calls and 100 hours with AT&T and Apple trying to resolve the issue. As of today no one has the answer. I spent a lot of money for the phone and Apple Support to no avail. I am glad to know I am not alone but would like a phone that works after spending $$$. Apple tech support says that my issue is rare and that they do not know what is causing the problem.
Only fix is a class action or defacing their billboards like when the batteries only lasted 8 months and were excluded from warranty. Always a risk buying Apple product as the company has a history of unconscionable conduct.
Interesting seeing this. I went from a perfectly good Microsoft Lumia 950 to the 7 Plus and just cannot make or receive calls or use Skype. Pretty appalling situation and thinking I must go back to using my Lumia - which I was about to sell on eBay - though of course the Windows vs Apple app situation makes leaving the iPhone a real disappointment. If I do the improvement, will I lose all the apps I've added...? Thanks...
I have an iPhone 7 and I have issues using it in my condo, if I walk in certain area people can't hear me or if I try to make calls it won't go though. My wife has the 6 and she has no problems using hers anywhere in the house. It drives me nuts, I had a samsung before and it worked perfect in my house.
That's the issue I had with my 7+. Hours at the Genius Bar and with online support at Apple and Sprint, multiple resets and 3 replacements did not correct it. Had to go back to my reliable 5.
The reason your voice sounds muffled is because your phone case is blocking/interfering with the noise-cancellation microphone (teeny little one next to your camera lens on the back of your phone). If you remove the case so that this microphone is not blocked I think your sound quality problem might get resolved.
Mohammad, I'm afraid we need Apple to fix the problem...but I'm not sure they are doing anything about it. I suggest you report it to Apple and hope they will eventually recognise the problem and fix the software.
This ha sharpened to me! I am not sure if they will give me a refund as I am sick of going through apples processes wasting time and money trying to sort it my premium hand set!!! For my first replacement it took 3 weeks to trying to book appointments and then another week to wait for the new model...
Please see th-cam.com/video/hyC3NgAXglo/w-d-xo.html which is the improvement I got after Apple did remote diagnostics (I don't know what they did) and then asked me to "Setup as New Phone". A clear improvement but still not fantastic quality.
Yep - mine to , 7plus , people can't hear me -not happy
whotusay750 anyone know how to fix?

Same problem - iphone has useless call quality. Real shame, otherwise they're good phones
= duh
A Facebook group to discuss the issues facebook.com/groups/iPhone7CallAudioQuality/
Same issue here
Yes, we tried an IPhone 7 and the call sound quality stunk. Our 6S was better.

iPhone call quality deteriorates as the phone gets hot during a call. Always has. Cannot be fixed. Doesn't happen with Samsung Galaxy.
Same horrible mate
I agree!!

If your iPhone has Intel Chips, you will have call quality problems.
Is true i hate this phone because of that
Android=Apple
My mother had the same issue on her iPhone 7 Plus? I thought it was because of her magnet back case by maybe it is the phone itself instead :/
Apple=Android
I changed the bottom microphone for $600.
