    Good video, particularly useful as black, so as not to be caught out. I have been checking out your lines for that reason. Against the Delayed Wing Gambit (Mengarini gambit) 2.a6, I reckon 2...g6 is a good reply, as it puts a spanner in white's attempt to go b4, when it is white that needs to equalise. And if white does something else then a3 may be a lost tempo, although there are some hair raising lines with h4, I notice. May be ...g6 is why the Mengarini isn't more popular?
    EDIT As for the Snyder variation, I see little temptation to play d5 and recapture with the queen, when white can simply gain a tempo with Nc3. Looks like ...e5 ...d6 would be a much better approach leading to something a bit like your third option, but with colours reversed.

    I'm just a little ways into your video, but I can tell you already that I like the Cochrane Variation a lot! It's basically a Stonewall setup which I have been playing for many years now, and I didn't even know the name of it until now! :) Thank you for putting a name to this great opening! I always learn so much from you! Ah, yes, and I love the Beaver also! Thanks again!

    Professor Ruddell,
    at the 4:14 mark of the video, if black plays Qe5+ anyway, which piece do you recommend to put on e2 to block? Your Q? B? or N (from g1 obviously)?
    thank you!

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would personally say Qe2. This is the best move according to the engine and does really open up white's position and make things simple. If black does want to trade then we can capture that queen back with our bishop gaining development. If you don't want to trade, I would say that Be2 is the next best option. And there's nothing wrong with Be2 immediately, really just depends what you're style of play is! I myself would go with Qe2 though.

    10:23 if black push their center pawn to 5e threatening your knight and bishop? Then you're losing material and position

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! Against e5 we can play Nb3 attacking the opponent's queen. The queen has to run but also defend the pawn on e5. However, against a move like Qe7 or Qc7, we can simply continue with Nd5 attacking the queen again and white's position is winning here.

    Playing something unconventional against a grand master gets you punished.
    If they're not a grand master it gives you an opportunity to capitalize on them being out of their comfort zone
    Also, none of us are beating a grand master any time soon

    • @TheChessGiant
