    Very beautiful dresses!
    I'm in the lucky position, that my dh is getting me wax prints from time to time, when he's coming home from family visits in Nigeria. I made dresses, duvet covers, pillow cases ... I just love the touch of wax prints and I love it that they are coming in to fashion now.

    I always look forward to your vids❤What I love most is that you keep it real. Thank you sew much. Very important to know that sometimes in sewing things will go wrong for each of us but perseverance pays off. I loved hearing Nikki say."I threw it across the room. " Lol. I have felt like that at times. The dresses are absolutely GORGEOUS! Always inspiring❤

    Hello Rachel and Nikki, great video again. I have been sewing from patterns for 4 decades and never changed anything in the making. But I have in the last 8 years have needed to learn how to draft a pattern for my own measurements. But wow, if I knew about querking patterns I could have done some amazing things. I had no-one to chat or inform me of doing such things as adjustments to fit me personally. I have started looking at patterns differently for about 5 years.

    Great idea for classes. When I started sewing I had no idea. I made shorts and a skirt in a liberty fabric in a size 16. I could get both on without using the zips! Same about using your high bust measurement rather than full bust- shoulders, upper chest and back were huge. I took classes privately and through adult education. I would thoroughly recommend taking a class to anyone and yours seem lovely. I’m tempted by the puff quilt as I love the one you sent to Gabby and the one Robins Nest made.

    Thank you both for being so honest and human, and sleeve gate made me splutter my cup of tea everywhere I giggled so much!
    I’ll definitely be doing your class, I stopped using any of the big patterns years ago after my third dress in a row turned out huge and I was too inexperienced to know how to fix it.

    The dresses look beautiful, you look great in them!!! Not a shameless plug at all! I am going to sign up for this class anyway becuase you are both so brilliant, and I would really like to see and sign up to a class if you do it on how to do a full bust adjustment, and how to take account of a bit of a belly if that makes sense. Just wanted to add that I really have such great regard for what you are doing!!! Take care and thank you. Susan

    Delighted to hear you are doing a class on reading and understanding patterns. I think most people just pay lip service to measurements and sizing and ease - too much time is then spent trying to work out why something doesn't fit. Are you including actually measuring the paper pattern to check fit?

    There are days when I struggle to put in a zipper too. Speaking of pattern ease, on a commercial pattern I have to add length to any bodice pattern.

    Hey girls do you think you guys could do full busy adjustment video?
    I’m the same in that I am petite but big busted in proportion to the rest of my body. I’ve not been brave enough to try patterns where I require FBAs yet

  • @flower-uw1hm
    @flower-uw1hm 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rachel - your dress looks fine. I would not bother fixing it up, as it would take me too much time and you cannot see the mistake in the busy print you have chosen. Although I would sew the Butterick 5919 again in a less busy fabric so that the style lines can be seen - which would make a beautiful dress.
    Butterick B5919
    and Butterick B5917 are not shift dress patterns, but they are nice dress patterns.
    Shift dress patterns are alot more simple than these 2 dress patterns.
    I think both of these dress patterns would look good with flared skirts, so if you sewed these patterns again - could you make them with flared skirts?

    Really love those dresses! And, it's your channel, so you plug anything you want to. One tiny quibble; in watching the photos at the end, I couldn't help wanting you to swap shoes with each other! I wanted to see Rachel's dress with the yellow shoes and Nikki's with the red.

  • @jodieroundtree488
    @jodieroundtree488 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wait, did you even show the back of the dress? Wear a long line bra like for wedding dresses. Cuts way down in the back and all that trussing at the ribs holds the bra cups in place for any size. Not a problem. Sounds like someone doesn't like bra shopping unless it's at Nikki's ;D the dresses are very smart looking. I like both!

    Hi Ladies! Gorgeous dresses! Just wondering if you prewashed/preshrunk the fabric before you created your dresses and weather that step is even necessary. Thanks!

    Great dresses. One question. Did you wash the fabric before you used it? And if so, did it change the fabric feel?
    Thanks for the videos. You make me smile. Debra

    Wow! How did I miss this challenge? I had bought African wax print not too long ago. Still wondering what I will make with it. I love both your dress. I own the pattern that has the ruffle in the front. I've yet to make it. I love the pattern tho'. The creases wouldn't be there if the skirt is fuller. Is this true?

    You guys are so cute...you remind me of me and my best friend. My husband just looks at us, shakes his head, and walks away laughing 😂 I do have a question though...I just recently made a pair of pants in wax print from a pattern that I’ve used before. The first pair turned out perfect! However, the wax print pair is too tight. I thought I had gained weight since making the first pair, but they still fit just fine. When using wax print fabric do you need to go up a size? The pattern envelope said I could use light weight denim so I figured 100% cotton was ok to use as well. Thanks for your help!

      Angela Bowles-Barrett Could it be the different way the fabric is woven? Demin is a twill weave, which gives it a bit of stretch. Waxprint is a plain weave, which has no give. And than the fibers are also highly saturated with the dyes, resulting in an even stiffer fabric which give it its characteristic crispness. How much extra ease you would need to compensate for the lack of give, I don’t know. Have not worked with waxprint yet. But definitely interested after seeing this.

      Lily Bogaards Thank you! I didn’t think about that since it’s the first time I’ve worked with the fabric. I’ll definitely give it another shot though.

    I can't decide if you want to subscribe to your channel. You talk over each other so much that it's hard to make out what you are saying sometimes. And laughing when the other one is talking, pretty annoying. Your makes look ok, I think you need to find your true shape and then you may find it's easier to fit patterns. Good luck

      We are like marmite, you love us or hate us! But our friendship is real (warts and all) and that means excitedly talking over each other and finishing each others sentences - and of course lots of laughing! You can't please all of the people all of the time, but we have to keep it real. Thanks for commenting x
