Hiya Cliff/Diane, looks like another fine harvest from your hard work! It must keep you both busy 24/7, have a great week, keep safe and will be looking for to your pruning next video! Thanks for sharing, Dave, 👍👍
Yes, thank you Dave, lifted onions and small harvest this week. Leaving the pruning till winter/spring, not summer pruning this year regards from us both,
Hi Cliff and Diane. Lovely harvest there. I'd be testing the soil, just to see what's going on. Great tip about potatoes and tomatoes. Im going to make my own pasta sauce. Can't let home grown go to waste. Take care 🌱🍅👍 Elaine 🌱
Thanks so much Elaine. I have treated that plot with agricultural gypsum and chalk, to see If makes any difference, nothing happening yet as its probably too dry. Enjoy your making your passata sauce, regards from us both.
Just found your channel and it’s wonderful to hear a familiar accent. Can always “fetch” more basil😁 . I’ve only had my allotment for 4 months, so looking forward to following you and learning from your vast experience. Thank you.
Hi there Cliff and lovely Diane We are both very happy you like the pongo beans 😊 Our outside tomatoes are only just starting to rippen been very slow down here, Hope you had some of the rain we have had over last few days and good for the ground as it was mainly over night ,
@@w.dossett3332 hi there sadly you cannot buy them as far as I'm aware anymore in this country They were from vals father and we have grown them for many years and have sent them far and wide that why you will see them on many channels
Thank Bill & Val, yes we love the pongo beans, they also crop and freeze well a good tasting bean. We have not had rain up here, the ground is cracking open. Pleased to hear you have had your share, this warm weather will soon ripen your tomatoes. Do take care regards from us both.
@@billvalsallotments5915 well done for doing your bit to keep the stock going bill and val. It sounds like a good cropper to keep . I would love a couple if you have any spare
Hi Cliff and Diane Lovely harvest, mouth watering at the thought of bill and Val's pongo beans. Hope the flood waters didn't make it bring any lasting ill effects. Thanks for the video x
I enjoyed this! I wonder if that lower bed that got wet could do with some gypsum!? Gypsum adds calcium and sulphur to the soil but doesn’t change the PH! I love making tomato passata too, I have one of those Italian milling machines, but I need to do 25KG batches to make it worth getting the machine out. I accrue tomatoes in the freezer until I have enough for a batch, my harvest is just getting going here in the Toronto area. I don’t think I have ever seen you guys grow pickling cucumbers!? Klaus
Hi Klaus, I applied agricultural Gypsum as soon as I saw the problem, still waiting to see results. We don't grow pickling cucumbers, the family is not too keen on them, but enjoy the pickled beetroot. Wow you do grow a lot of tomatoes, good idea to stock them up in the freezer till needed. Take care regards Cliff.
Hi Cliff - courgettes are hungry / demanding plants - the flooding and waterlogging may well have washed / leached out the minerals from the top layers of your soil - calcium included 🤔 I would suggest you give it a good dressing of lime, blood, fish and bone, and apply a comfrey or seaweed, fertiliser in late Autumn and again in early Spring. P.S. Cracking and informative video as always - I'd be delighted if I could produce but a quarter of your harvest 😂
Thanks Ian, I have taken advice from a agronomist, have been told to leave fallow for a year if possible. I did use blood fish and bone meal, and slow release fertiliser when planted them. Yes It could have been leached out of minerals, will await more advise. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.
Hi Cliff, I wonder if it would help that patch that got flooded, to grow some green manures on it over winter? I'm trying to use them on different areas to learn more about how to use them. If you keep something growing in the soil, you'll have less erosion and if you chop and drop the greens and either leave on top or dig in, it will feed the soil. I just wouldn't leave it bare, mother nature hates a bare patch and will soon fill it with weeds! 😂
Hi Mary, we have been advised to leave the flooded part of the garden fallow, for at least a year. We are still planning to leave a cover crop, not sure yet regards Cliff.
Yes It could be lonegunwomen, I have given them loads of chalk and a handful of powdered gypsum, also removed most of the courgettes. Lets hope this helps regards from us both.
Hi Sandy you are right It could be the lack of calcium leached out. I'm treating with chalk and agricultural gypsum, will wait to see if any improvement. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.
Hi Aileen. Diane washes and chops the tomatoes, peels and chops onion and garlic, add to oven dish. Add seasoning olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and cook till soft. Then she puts them in her blender with added water if needed. And freezers in zip lock bags. Regards Cliff.
Hi cliff your tomatoes and basil are beautiful, how are your potatoes growing my ones are ate to the stock by snails i think. Carrors and a few leeks seem to be the only veg growing well for me this year, would you know what type of apple tree pairs with a jonagold apple tree best for pollinating thanks.
Hi anirish, they have been pollinated as they are producing fruit. It seems like a mineral deficiency from the flood water and wet spring. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.
You could try Terry Kings channel if you're subscribed he grows Pongo beans and may send you a few as i know he's sent seeds to other subscribers. I see you requested Billandval but they not have reponded .
Thanks so much Diane and Cliff ❤

Yes, thank you Adam. Its been a tough season weather wise, although the soft fruit produced well regards Cliff.

Hi Hevchip, our white grape is producing a few grapes, the new black one we wont let It crop till next year regards Cliff.

Hello Cliff and Diane, is the cause of your courgettes rotting at one end blossom end rot which is a lack of calcium. Wonderful harvest. Take care.
Yes It could be lonegunwomen, I have given them loads of chalk and a handful of powdered gypsum, also removed most of the courgettes. Lets hope this helps regards from us both.
@@CastleHillGarden yes hope it helps all your hard work hate to see it go to waste.
Here in the US, blossom end rot is lack of calcium. Bone meal is recommended. Could have been leached out in the flood.
Hi Sandy you are right It could be the lack of calcium leached out. I'm treating with chalk and agricultural gypsum, will wait to see if any improvement. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.
Hi Cliff and Diane, how do you make the Passat ? Thanks

Hi Darragh, I would suggest Gala, and Golden Delicious. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.
@CastleHillGarden thank you cliff for the apple tree recommendation I pre ordered a gala and a golden delicious tree today.
Mebbe add some soil amendments, cliff? And calcium
Yes that's what we have done Dnugrahari, don't think I will see any results this year regards Cliff
Is it a possibility the courgettes haven't been pollinated?
Hi anirish, they have been pollinated as they are producing fruit. It seems like a mineral deficiency from the flood water and wet spring. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.
