  • I mounted a trolling motor to my Old Town Predator PDL for $400.00. Install and on the water review. Must see, if you have an Old Town Predator.

    Thanks for making this video. I've been going back and forth with mount ideas for my pdl.

      Right after I made this video Objective One Bass Fishing came out with a bow mount for the Predator PDL that will allow you to mount a remote Motor Guide or Minnkota trolling motor to your kayak. The mount does require drilling 3 holes in your kayak. You can find their video on youtube. You might want to check that out too. Good Luck

      @@kreigadkins thanks. I've seen that. I'm not really a fan of the bow mount motors, hoping someone comes up with a good stern mount that runs inline with a powerpole.

    Interesting video, thanks for sharing. How about making a mount that attaches to the rear power pole mounting position? You could angle the mount so the motor sits off to the left or right of the rudder. It would be closer to the kayak's center and probably more stable. You'd have to remote the switch (plenty of videos out there) and rely solely on the rudder for steering. And the motor would have to be down the entire time you're in the water. Trade-offs I guess.

      Balance is everything in a Kayak, this works ok but being off balance is just uncomfortable. Since making this video Objective One Bass Fishing has make a mount for the front of a Predator so you can mount a remote trolling motor to the front. If you put the battery in the back center and the trolling motor on the nose it should allow you to steer with your rudder and keep you centered all the time. I think that might be the best bet. Thanks for watching!!

    I'm in the process of installing my Minn Kota Endura transom with 30lb thrust. I have looked up that mine is about 15lbs in weight and yours is around 26lbs in weight. Perhaps mine won't list as much if I tried your same setup. I guess all I can do is try really, especially if i counter weight it somehow

      I used what I had, I never thought about trying a different motor. Let me know how it works. Thanks for watching.

    Did you stay with this set up? or did you go for the bow mount motor guide set up?

      I went with a Hobie PA 14 with a Motorguide XI3. for about 2 years. The problem with that setup was to use the spotlock you have to put the nose of the boat into the wind and you can't turn around and fish out of the back of my boat while bottom fishing or bobber fishing. So this year I noticed in that Bass Pro Shop had the Tracker Grizzly 1436 with a 15hp Mercury package for $4,195. That was less than my Hobie. So I bought one and put my Xi3 on it and rigged it just like my Hobie and I found the perfect fishing machine. I can troll, spider rig, cast, bottom fish, bobber fish and never have to use an anchor. and the bonus was that it will do 25mph with the outboard. I have been using it for 3 months and I love it. I am planning on doing a video on the boat in the next week. I love my tiny boat. Keep watching!

    i’m trying a newport 24 “ 55 thrust 23 lb trolling motor with a 36 lb battery on the same kayak with the same mount. do you think the tipping would have been less if you trimmed the motor in more (pointing it upward) to offset the pull downward.? Also if you positioned the battery more to the left?

      @kreigadkins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did try putting the battery to the opposite side and it didn't help, I was still off center. Just after making this video Objective One Bass Fishing came out with a mount for the Predator that mounts to the nose of the kayak and allows you to mount a remote control trolling motor like the Motorguide Xi3. There is also an installation video on TH-cam for that mount. I think it's a better option, it keeps everything centered.

      @@kreigadkins Thanks, yes I had the Motorguide with the pinpoint nav on a flats boat in a former life. It's a great setup.

      Oldtown makes a trolling motor mount for the predator. It runs about $150.00. I bought mine from Austin City Kayak for 149.95 with free shipping.
