I'm seeing a few comments along the lines of "The snap was to his left and he just went with it". So that as a punter is absolutely something that is just forbidden, you see coverage players all release towards where you're going to kick, meaning they're not only running that direction but giving their potential blockers leverage on the opposite side. So lets say you're supposed to kick the ball right and instead kick it left, not only are your players out of position, but now you actually just set up blocks. So in no world would a punter just decide to kick it to the opposite end of the field unless it was already planned and as you can see from the first punt in this clip, he punts it right, everyone releases right, then watch this punt and his gunners release to the left further showing it was planned from the start. In high school, I was a right-footed punter. Kicking the ball to the left by angling your body like he did is not difficult at all. I have no idea what you're discussing. On the other hand, it's fairly incredible to kick it further than sixty yards.
Yes agreed. The kick was great but the slight change of body angle is nothing remarkable.

It is not even close to incredible for an NFL punter to hit a 60 yard punt. In fact this last NFL week there was a minimum of 13 60+ yarders alone, including 3 67s, a 68, and of course this 73 yarder. I say minimum of 13, because in the box scores they list each punters longest punt, but do not say whether any of their other punts also may have been 60 yarders.
I also punted in high school and agree, I would regularly kick left if i was on the right hash and the returner was cheating further right. The insane part of this punt is how perfect the bounce was, out of bounds at the 1 is the harder part of this punt. There's video of punters actually unleashing a punt and they all kick it around 70 yards, but in a NFL game you're trying to balance hang time and distance so you're not outkicking your coverage.
"faking your direction to the right and then switching up to go left amplifies that difficulty tenfold" You mean turning his body a few degrees left once the ball is in his hands? Come on, dude.
@@deviationblueI've punted a football on a dead run, I've changed my direction before punting or kicking, and I'm sure just about any other guy in the United States that played football growing up has done the same. There really is nothing that difficult about it.

As a kickoff and punt returner, I line up on the hash punter is on. I typically can't see his feet or hips, i just know he's back there doing something. For instance, if he's on the right hash and I'm on the opposite, he can kick a line drive that I can't field because the ball would travel faster than I can before the bounce. Also, the punt went out of bounds so if there is a chance to get a touch back on the bounce, im all for it. Good kick, but he didn't trick the return guy
yup, he's left foot forward because he's right footed, he's not angling his body extra. It's just rarer to see you kick left when lined up on the right hash because there's more field that way, so the coverage would be spread out more. You're trying to pin the returner into coverage. The reason he goes left here is because the snap is to his left, not down the middle, so he has to adjust his positioning.
I was a punter in high school...right-footed. It's not hard at all to kick the ball to the left by angling your body like he did. Not sure what you're talking about. Kicking it 60+ yards on the other hand is pretty amazing.
I'm guessing the reason you don't see it every Sunday is that NFL punters don't train for that type of kick. In AFL, we see kicks like that dozens of times a game, because the players spend thier lives training for these, and many other, types of kicks.
It was not that hard of a punt. He did not switch in mid-stride. He had time to switch and no one truly came close. It was a good punt but not one to slobber over.
I saw this live! Steve Own of the Jest was on his one yard line, and hit a 98 yard punt pinning your Broncos on their 1 yard line .... that was the best punt ever!

@@johnsmith-cz1ty Yeah, you actually require the ability to be able to pick up your feet while wearing cleats. Something that everybody on the team has mastered.
Oh don't worry we did this in barefeet. The trick is to whack the top of your feet a few times and it gets rid of the pain after it stings a bit. Its not just the sting that has the potential to hurt. Its the thud through the nerves. And doing that will stop it.
Not sure what you are talking about, but this was not a newly invented punt. This is literally what a punter's job is, to punt it away from the returner, and try to pin the team as deep as they can. This has been this way since I've watched football, and that is quite a few years. There is a TH-cam video incident when the Giants had the game won against the Eagles, all the punter had to do was punt the ball away from Desean Jackson, and punted it directly to him. Jackson returned it for a TD and the Eagles won. You can see the Giants coach Coughlin after the game asking the punter WTF he had done that for.
All I got from this video was that he changed the angle of his lead foot about 90” to the left before giving the pigskin the boot... and, sure, it traveled almost 75 yds., but that's not invention. 🏈
This style of misdirection to my best knowledge has not been done. Typically the closest we've gotten is punters in the 80's/90's would keep their feet straight down field and try to flip one direction or the other to hide the direction a bit, but never a full face right and try to go all the way to the left.
I don't know myself, because I've never punted. But unless ol' Isaac here just has a very unfortunate family name, I'm going to assume he has or is maybe some kind of punting expert, and so am take his word that it was amazing.
Best punt of all time, best punter of all time, most athletic player in the league. Widely viewed "was gonna go right then went left" best trick play of all time. Fooled everyone. I thought the ball was going right so hard that I was confused the camera showed the ball on the left side of the field. I was blaming DirecTVs poor data before I realized I was witnessing a pigskin shower of greatness. My wife just filed divorce papers because I couldn't stop watching the instant replay even though it was our anniversary. Jesus may walk on water but this punter can wade through land
Punting is probably one of the most under appreciated skills in football. Flipping the field can be a total game changer & if consistent, a dangerous weapon.
This is a kick (punt) Australian rules footballers have been perfecting for twenty years - making the ball travel in a curve rather than a straight line. Search 'Eddie Betts banana kick' to see examples.
@@IsaacPunts There was at least 13 60+ yarders this last week. Even the Jaguars opponent, GB, had one. And there were other games where both team's punters hit 60 yarders. But you are basically saying that even if this punt had only gone 5 yards, it would have still been epic? No! Epic was watching the Giant's Sean Landeta kick a -7 yard punt. That is negative 7 yards. Technically that punt actually went 7 yards, but just in the wrong direction. Was a very windy day and was a playoff game. But I'm sure you knew that already too.
Fake right kick left, that's the most 5d next level thing I've ever heard of. The complexity of thought it takes to even conceive of such a thing is mind boggling
If his body was pointed right and he kicked it to the left on purpose then yes that would be impressive and considered to be among the greatest. I used to try that with my brother receiving growing up and would occasionally (as in like 1%) get it to work. A guy that spends his workday punting should be able to pull it off at a much higher clip. But kicking where you are facing ... that's his job.

Nope. In 1969, I saw Steve O’Neal of the Jets kick a 98-yard punt. From the Jets one-yard line, he nailed it, with a wind assist, over the receiver’s head and the ball rolled and was downed at the opponent’s one-yard line. It was the greatest and most perfect punt ever.

Yes, it was a great kick but the slight change of angle is nothing to get excited about.
Wow. He catches the ball and kicks it. Who would have ever thought of that.
Yes but did you catch the part where he turned slightly to the left and then kicked it?
Standard punt for Australia Rules football players. No biggy.
with either foot!
You are a clown, if that was true we would see this kick every sunday.
@@cyxabi You are right.
I'm guessing the reason you don't see it every Sunday is that NFL punters don't train for that type of kick. In AFL, we see kicks like that dozens of times a game, because the players spend thier lives training for these, and many other, types of kicks.
This isn't Australia Rules football tho
Been loving your channel the past few months, congrats on this banger vid!
It was not that hard of a punt. He did not switch in mid-stride. He had time to switch and no one truly came close. It was a good punt but not one to slobber over.
Agreed on all points.
Obviously Isaac has never heard of Ray Guy. Ray Guy was punting like this from the day he entered the NFL. GOAT without a doubt.
This is one of the WORST examples of click bait I've come across in awhile... Nothing new happened. Great punt. That's literally it.
I just hope it's intentional clickbait and he doesn't really think this is revolutionary or difficult.
@johnsmith-cz1ty I'm pretty positive he doesn't lol
Beautifully placed kick! Nice to see some appreciation for good punting, one of the key elements making football the great sport that it is.
The word "invent" is heavily overused.
Yep. Its a punt alright. Every punter in the NFL should be able to do this. Its their job.
Greatest punter/greatest punt ever seen? LET'S NOT EXAGGERATE!
It might be the greatest athletic feat of all time.
Too late!
@@johnsmith-cz1ty It makes walking on water look like a parlor trick.
I saw this live! Steve Own of the Jest was on his one yard line, and hit a 98 yard punt pinning your Broncos on their 1 yard line .... that was the best punt ever!
Ray Guy was doing this 50 years ago. Nothing new you’re just too young to know.
Exactly, nothing new to see here.
Yep...they didn't create the Ray Guy award for punters for no reason.
A few weeks ago, the Colts punter hit a beautiful coffin corner punt that landed softly inside the five yard line. That was a great punt!!
I need a video on the Lions special teams masterclass/Titans disasterclass.
There will be one
@@IsaacPunts Can't wait! Keep up the good work!
That punt was AMAZING! How he pulled that off is beyond me...I've never seen a punter do that.
"Invents"? Not even close. What a waste of 1:44 of my life
1:44 of your life is that valuable?
You’ve heard of punters doing fake outs and go cross field before? Seems like you’re not doing much with your time anyways
No one invents anything these days, they copy, reboot, re-do, plagiarize, steal.

Oh boooo fucking hooo
Wow! He actually shifted his feet without falling over! What a genius!
If you only knew how hard it was to face slightly in one direction and then turn a little bit to face slightly in another direction.
Friggin' ballerina/gymnast hybrid kicker!
@@johnsmith-cz1ty Oh come on, who hasn't done that while peeing at a tavern urinal? Admittedly, sometimes the neighboring pisser gets a pocketful, but they are usually so wasted they just think they are sweating.
@@johnsmith-cz1ty Yeah, you actually require the ability to be able to pick up your feet while wearing cleats. Something that everybody on the team has mastered.
Every australian could do this from age 12 onwards, I could genuinely go outside and do this now in flip flops
Or barefoot 🏉
Imagine if an NFL punter could kick with BOTH FEET, like most AFL players can do….. they would go nuts!!!
Oh don't worry we did this in barefeet. The trick is to whack the top of your feet a few times and it gets rid of the pain after it stings a bit.
Its not just the sting that has the potential to hurt. Its the thud through the nerves. And doing that will stop it.
If you're sat down for a while and you decide to get up, jump up and stamp your feet, thats the pain I'm talking about just fsr less.
correct
Maybe you should try kicking a ball with oxygen in it instead of helium.
Great to see my team still has fans!
I mean it was a great punt because of where it landed but this whole thing about it being some sort of trick punt is just utter nonsense.
All I got from this video was that he changed the angle of his lead foot about 90” to the left before giving the pigskin the boot... and, sure, it traveled almost 75 yds., but that's not invention. 🏈
He's commenting on the technique. If you listen to him he mentions that most right handed punters have a hard time doing this.
As soon as I saw this punt I knew you’d make a video about it. Thanks for the breakdown!

Flipping the field can be a total game changer & if consistent, a dangerous weapon.
if you have to punt you are probably not playing right!

This is a kick (punt) Australian rules footballers have been perfecting for twenty years - making the ball travel in a curve rather than a straight line. Search 'Eddie Betts banana kick' to see examples.
So why aren't all the NFL punters from Australian football?
@@maxxbenzz7842 Because they are afraid to leave Australia and their Mommies.
Wow, 20 whole years? LOL.
Logan Cooke is a beast, has been since his first day on the field after getting drafted.. we are blessed to have him here 💯
Here's the D-line coach. That coffin corner would HAVE HYPED mu guys!

Just sayin' this wasn't the highest avg yardage for 5 punts today.

Jack fox is a freak, I love it
@@IsaacPunts There was at least 13 60+ yarders this last week.
Watching this live, I yelled to my buddies, this is punt of the year!!!
Greatest punter ever? Please stop
Fake right kick left, that's the most 5d next level thing I've ever heard of. The complexity of thought it takes to even conceive of such a thing is mind boggling

@@ckobo84 It's the greatest trick play in the history of sports.
Ray guy?

It would actually be harder to face left and kick left as a right footer. Facing right makes it easier to then turn left after taking the snap
This was exactly what I needed, thanks!
NFL, give this man a series to make special teams breakdowns!
