    I am 5 ft tall…a combo rectangle/inverted triangle. Proportion is everything for me. At 65 yrs old I’ve tried to wear midi’s several times over the decades. They absolutely do not work on me. I like the way they look, so casual and cute. I knew when I clicked on you that this wasn’t going to help me personally. But I enjoy what you show us. 👍🏻

      I loved the styles with a low to mid heel on you. Trainers just appear to clunky, flats not as bad. The front tuck is almost a must, even just a slight one. I agree a shorter jacket is the most flattering if you’re going to layer. For myself I personally wouldn’t wear a midi denim skirt. I would look and feel overwhelmed. I might choose a midi dress however. Thanks for sharing Jamie!

      I might have your body type. Try a calf length skirt that's a size larger than your usual so the waist band sits at lower torso and near your hips. Wear with a lower cut V-neck top (ironically this makes the top area look less prominent). Key is to wear the skirt below your natural waist line and closer to the hip bone. Throw on a casual 1 or 2 inch sandal. This is my go to summer style and works like a charm. I actually look best in straight denim skirt at ankle length with side slits that don't go any higher than my knee area. I'm 5'3" 115 lbs, but my waist is almost same measurement as my hips, breasts are almost as wide as my shoulders. I've even had denim skirts tailored to fit as described and well worth the minimal cost.

    Your favorite look with the green fitted top and nude espadrilles is my favorite too. Pretty much all of the rest look old fashioned frumpy church style

    I'll give you props for making a denim midi look good instead of dumpy and dull. Granted, your slim proportions made that easier, but proportion really is the key here anyway. So good job, you. Thanks for sharing.

    At 5’2 and 64 yrs old I have been against midis mainly because I always thought they would make me look shorter than I am but I finally tried a floral midi from loft and I used your advice and I actually like it--so thank you!! I was getting ready to return it until I watched your video!!

    Love love love your videos! Since you mentioned this... I think you can get away with the longer blazer if you had a less contrasting color instead of the purple. Something that just blended. I think the longer jacket is helpful if you have a tummy and want to hide it. It creates that column through the center of the body that helps flatter and diminish a larger waist. And of course it should never be buttoned and the sleeves should always be pulled up :) Oh but I'm also taller so perhaps it works better for that reason too :) Loved the pink tweed outfit. Excellent tips, thank you!

    I liked the information you showed n it all rang true but I would have liked to see different colors n styles of midis... I love this style but I'm short n heavy n really wonder what I should wear or maybe I shouldn't at all... this was a strait column skirt... what about an a-line in light blue or white... or in black or indigo... trumpet in knee high or midi... I am just starting my journey to find my perfect denim skirt... thank you for your videos I always learn...

    I understand that some women like to wear sneakers with dresses and skirts, but quite frankly I think the look is the epitome of frumpiness. With so many lovely and comfortable walking shoes available, why would anyone degrade their look by wearing a utilitarian shoe that looks so jarring with feminine apparel? You brought out the best in the skirt with the more form-fitting tops and summer sandals. In the fall and winter, the skirt would pair perfectly with high boots and slightly cropped knit sweaters. The denim skirt has the versatility to be worn year-round, with perhaps the exception of those unbearably hot summer days.

      Several designers are showing jean skirts just below the knee and with darker wash--Banana Republic, Evereve, Boden. I like the darker wash and it looks better on me--I am an autumn. Could you do a video with this type of skirt? I have trouble with trainers too. When they are bulky like a running shoe I think they get very close to frumpy. I prefer a nude or tan sandal with a bit of a heel. 12:51

    • @YourGuideToStyle
      @YourGuideToStyle  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had trouble finding a darker one but I will try. This will be great for the fall as well. I know that trainers can get close to looking frumpy if they are not styled right. Also, if someone has larger feet it might be tough. But a sleek lace up will work great for most people. I try to put things together that people may not think they could try but I know they won't work for everyone.

    The problem with midi skirts which is often not commented on is the front cut. Once you ait with a front cut then it can bare your thighs when you sit and that may not be what we prefer. Gap , BR factory and qvc had midi skirts were front closed with back cut. I bought all three skirts from these stores and have been wearing them worry free. The skirts are closed in front. Need to tuck the top with any midi skirt and high heels. Sorry any sneaker over dress or skirt is frumpy and like a beggar

    Don't like the lime color with the skirt but love the shoes.. Purple tops looks a bit too little girlish. Look for different top.

    Denim is too stiff/heavy of a fabric (for me) in a midi or maxi length, so if I was to purchase one I would probably go knee length with the slit in the back. To get a similar denim look in a midi, I would go with a light blue challis made to simulate denim with contrast stitching & metal buttons. I owned a denim maxi back in the 70s. It buttoned all the way down the front & was slightly A line. I always wore a tie front top with it & left the bottom few buttons undone for ease of walking. Your black platforms remind me of shoes I owned then, only mine were in tan. I am top heavy so I like more fullness in a skirt unless it's a knee length pencil skirt. If I were to style this skirt for myself, I would probably wear a fitted black tank or tee, black belt, black leather bag, combat boots or black gladiator sandals layered with a black fitted button up shirt (could be sleeveless)worn as a vest/jacket. Loved the moto vest! I think this skirt is very versatile & could be styled sporty, edgy or even romantic/feminine depending on your mood/need.You could carry it into Fall/Winter with tights & boots easily.

      Thanks for sharing! I had a love maxi denim skirt that buttoned all the way up the front in the 90's lol! It all comes and goes right!? I think this will be great in the fall and winter as well!

    Now imagine someone petite but with a bigger belly. Once the t shirt is tugged in the belly shows up, so does a shorter t shirt. Sometimes I wish people would consider these factors when giving out styling advises and suggest other possible alternatives.
