      I went on a cruise six months ago, and decided to spend 4 nights in pr after the cruise, I loved the island, and I am thinking about moving there, I worked in IT for a few years doing help desk and desk side support, I know jobs there aren't the highest paying jobs, my question is, would you rather buy a place or rent ? What kind of jobs can you get ( I know it's highly competitive in the tourism industry)?

    • @JenThereDoneThat
      @JenThereDoneThat  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hicham.o732 Look for remote IT jobs, or IT support position with one of the big pharmaceutical companies. They will pay much higher wages than most jobs on the island. I decided to rent for the first year, and that was 3 years ago, we are still renting. Puerto Rico is a wonderful island, but the job situation is not good.

      Yes, my best friend and I would like to move to Puerto Rico, but we are very low budget. We have a beautiful spot in New England, we also have a adorable little cabin in the Maine Woods on the coast that we are willing to trade for a small cottage on the beach in Puerto Rico. Anyone have any interest in swapping out properties out there? We are open to hearing from anybody. thanks

    Jen, my parents arrived to Puerto Rico, from Cuba, in 1960. They loved this Island so much that their second and third children were born here. I am the third child and I am 57 years old. They had to work very hard to give us the best education. Unfortunately they passed away...my Dad in 2014 and my Mom in 2015. They told us to please never take them to live in Miami even if they were old, because they felt their heart’s home was this beautiful Island a Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. I was raised here, I got my BBA degree here. I worked for Advertising Agencies in PRico, NYC, Texas and Miami...and I returned in 2015. I don’t have any family here as all have moved to Florida...and I feel that I pertain to this land. I am very happy that your experience has been a good one. Regards.

    Thank you Jen for your kind words of my native home Puerto Rico. I work in Philadelphia and I have encountered prejudice in my life in the states. It is so heartwarming to hear a mainlander speak so highly of PR and actually move there. You are discovering what we always new. I’m wondering what part of the island do you live in and if you have been affected by the recent earthquakes?

    Hi Jen, I’d like to see a video about buying land and building a home in PR. What are the steps, requirements, average price per sqft, the islands better contractors, and maybe if some of the work on a home can be done individually.
    On a side note maybe a video on the job opportunities there as well.
    Thank you and thanks for all the informative videos.

    Thank you for such good opinion of our Island. I am very proud of living here and my heritage. From being born in N.Y. With working parents who returned after making funds for the goal of buying a property. This was the classic american dream. Work, study and grow professionally to capitalize back in the Island. Love my people. We are such a mix of cultures which makes us so rich in knowledge and hospitality. For the mosquitoes use many essential oils including citronella in water and just sprinkle everywhere as you would fertilizer. Rich aroma of lavender and many other you can spray in and out the house. You’l see the difference. Just discovered I could do the same to get out of my surrounding all the street cats and the neighbors’ ones visiting my chihuahua but instead ... using straight vinegar. Worked fine and it is natural, not toxic for them. Hope you continue enjoying living here. Make the most of each day. Hope for good health also with the virus issue.

    B-Complex vitamins, peppermint essential oil on your skin, Lavender and Frankincense helps with mosquitoes and there are several types of plants for the home that are natural mosquito repellents. Enjoy the island. I'll be making my way there permanently by the end of the year.

We are open to hearing from anybody. thanks

    Hi Jen. I’ve watched several of your videos. So far they are the most informative and on point videos. You guys have convinced me that what I was thinking all along about moving to PR was a good idea. . I just got into PR this morning and I’m looking to buy a home with some land in Corozal. Is there an attorney that you can recommend or would it be best to find an attorney in Corozal? I already know from following other vloggers on TH-cam about moving to PR and buying a house here that an attorney is the one thing not to skimp on. Penny for your thoughts.

    Just saw your channel and I want to say thank you for the nice things you said about PR. I am from the island and came to TX when I was about 18 to “get some money to help my parents”, and well 10+ years later that hasn’t happened, it’s definitely not as easy as I thought it would be. I’ve been wanting to go back for some time now but the job situation is what’s holding me back. I am now sure I want to move back, but I guess I have to wait a little to make sure I do things right. Looking forward to more videos.

    Jen, OMG! I swear you and I have just about the same story up to a certain point!! I fell in love with PR after spending just one day there as a stop on a cruise in 2019. I’m coming back for my 50th birthday this May (2021) to take another good look at the island. Spending just 4 days, but I’m so excited! I want to do the exact same thing you guys did - just sell everything I own, pack some bags, and move there. I live in Houston, TX but I have always been a Caribbean girl at heart. I need sunshine, beautiful water and good people around me. I’m trying so hard how to make this happen. The most major thing that’s holding me back is work. I know that most expats are either retired or own their own business. Neither of those applies to me, but I refuse to let that keep me from the island. I MUST find a job! I WILL find a job! Yes, I know (to all the people who will comment letting me know that it’s next to impossible) that it is not going to be easy. Unemployment is high. Employers prefer to hire locals first. I’m not bilingual (yet), but I am working on it every day. All of these things are stacked against me, I know. But, why should only retirees and business owners be the only expats who can make it there?!? I am absolutely determined and I will make this happen! Thank you so much for these helpful videos!!

    Thanks a lot for the video, and glad you like the island! ♥️ Mosquitoes love fresh flesh! When I visit the island and go to a river with my family, my legs and arms end up full of mosquito bites, I mean big, red welts, while my family have none. They just attack the ones they feel is new for them. Eventually they will realize that you live on the island and will leave you alone.
