  • Hey everyone, like any brand or model of car they all have issues. This covers my understanding of the Ford AWD system. If i am off and giving out the wrong info please comment and help others. I don’t know everything. However i hope to help people with the making of this video.

    Really helpful, thanks.
I've a 2017-made Kuga (UK name for an Edge). I've just changed the PTU oil (some now finally have a real drain plug as on mine - a T50 male socket bit needed).
Came to the rear end next, expecting a Gen 4 Haldex coupler (with their renowned provlem of the internal pump filter blockages = fail) - but I found a coupler that looked considably different, no pump etc.
You're the 1st guy to have a video with the actual unit i have on the frontnof my rear diff, and explain its an electro-mag operated clutch pack. Excellent.

Great video. I wasted a lot of time seaching though my service manuals and watching other TH-cam videos trying to find this info.

very good video. i recently acquired a second gen edge myself that was well maintained and i always keep my vehicles as long as i can. i was worried about getting the turbo though as i know ford didn't stick it there for longevity.
while i don't want you to have more issues with your edge, i liked your explanation so i wouldn't mind more videos

Thanks Matthew. Yes i hope for good luck and we love the car. I myself would be skeptical of the turbo as well. I assume they are not too hard of a job to replace. The 4cyl engines should have lots of engine bay room.

Good video Josh, it sucks that all the manufacturers are building things so disposable.

Thanks Glen. It really does suck. Was a hard call to fix or leave. But the AWD is essential here and we were having trouble making it up hills without.

Good video. What I´ve been told is AWD is way better than traditional 4WD

Thank you! Yes i would have to agree for daily driving of vehicles it is far superior. However if going off road in a truck etc i would want full 4wd for sure.

I have a 2015 Ford edge SEL all wheel drive I’m having problems with it. I changed the front gearbox. It feels like the car is in four-wheel-drive. I’m wondering if it’s the back gear box I pulled the plug out that did have some metal on it, but I’m not getting any noise, out of thegear boxes but if I turn the steering wheel right left as I’m driving, it feels like the wheels ain’t in sync with each other like four-wheel-drive dryland gear if anybody has any help, they can help me also also has no check engine lights on

ESSENTIALLY, An AWD system is 4 wheel drive for front wheel drive vehicles. FORD says their PTU in non serviceable
because they expect the PTU to fail BEFORE the PTU will need its oil changed. FORD runs the exhaust too close to
the PTU causing it to overheat. DORMAN has re designed the FORD PTU making thiers beefier, with better heat
protection, more robust seals AND a drain plug. $850USD. As of late, I have learned of several parts for different
vehicles makes re engineered by DORMAN and all are superior to the factory parts. So I am becoming a DORMAN
fan and will start looking for DORMAN replacement parts when the need arises.
