  • D-d-d-d-d-don't Shoot! You're Busted! Freeze! Spread Em! Police! Wanted to get a recording of a 6+ million game on youtube, so here it is! FYI This run is long and involves a lot of farming on The Bridge. The Downtown level went awful and I was getting lit up by Hypomen and dogs costing me a ton of lives that prevented me from getting 50 busts in Mr. Big's Office and the Jackpot room. My best score is 7.8 million which came from significantly more helicopter farming on the bridge, 50 busts on all levels but the Sunset Strip, and an absurdly lucky 1.63 million in the jackpot room after Mr. Big. This was played in MameUI64 using a Qanba Q2, no cheats or savestates were used. By learning to herd hobos together, you can attempt massive busts, then shoot whoever runs off in the opposite direction. It's important to use one side to accomplish this and clear out the other so you only have fire coming from one direction. You can see I also jump and grind into the ceiling, this causes you do move faster then walking alone and can build space between Dumpster Men, Kinky Pinkies and Dogs. NARC FUCKING RULES! This game isn't poorly designed or bullshit hard. Just gotta get good!

      The Bridge might as well be "Chopper Coke Farming" given how many choppers get taken down and how much cocaine is seized (there are no limits to cash and coke a player can take, while you're limited to 50 busts).

      Sunset Strip has a pink Cadillac that can help clear the streets if you lure thugs and dogs to it (and you jump over it). Saves on ammo--unless you shoot it, then you get whatever loot is in it.

    I think the game is mostly fair up until the last two levels. Then ,the deaths become pretty damn ridiculous. Still a fun and important game, though. You can see some remnants from Defender in the design.
    I'm astonished Warner Bros. Interactive hasn't attempted to re-release it along with all the other arcade classics they own (Like Klax, Marble Madness, Defender, Rampage, MK and the like).

    You did splendidly, as arresting the enemies gives a lot more points. Some enemies do have to be knocked out because of what they have that makes it impossible to arrest them (Joe Rockhed is so strong that he instantly defeats anyone who tries to bust him, K-Pinky the Clown uses a knife to stab anyone who tries to bust him, Mr. Big's initial battle has him using a weaponized wheelchair, and the final Mr. Big battle is his giant head form). That is one interesting arcade classic because of the anti-drug message it had. NARC 1988 had drug offenders as the enemies, and as a result, I had a weird dream that someone made a NARC 1988-themed skin for Pac-Man 99. That maze royale shut down on 8 October 2023, so the strange dream was one of my latest reactions to the shutdown. Again, I like how excellent you did, and this would be the music/sound scheme if someone were to make a skin based on NARC 1988:
    Intro (once the "READY!" text disappears): Credit Insertion Sound (also used when using a continue after losing every life)
    Power Pellet Sound: "You're busted!" voice clip (sometimes said when busting enemies)
    Ghost Eaten Sound: "BUSTED" Stamp Sound (plays after successfully busting enemies)
    99-player music: Junkyard - Normal Version (also used in Skyhigh's Nursery)
    50-player warning sound: "We're on our way!" voice clip (one of the level-starting voice clips)
    50-player music: Bridge Level - Normal Version
    10-player warning sound: Mr. Big's Laugh (plays right before his initial battle and his last battle)
    10-player music: Inner Sanctum (used in the final battle with Mr. Big's giant head form)
    Victory: Evidence Bonus Sound (plays at the start of the results/evidence screen)
    Winning Results: Name Entry Rap
    Defeat: Game Over - Bridge Version
    Losing Results: None
    It is going to take a lot of room just to list the other sounds. Still, in the weird dream where someone made a NARC 1988-themed skin for Pac-Man 99 in reaction to the maze royale's shutdown, Max Force (Player 1's character from NARC 1988) replaced Pac-Man himself while the enemies from NARC 1988 represented the Ghosts. I see why people would want to see the old classic, NARC 1988, released on more Nintendo consoles.

      you are wrong. if you stay in one place without moving, i forget, but a swarm of enemies come after you or something similar but you can't stay at one place too long. otherwise the quarter muncher fails at its job which is to make profits for the arcade owner. all arcade games aimed at that rather than just having fun

    Good job shooting down helicopters with just the machine gun. I'll usually slam the car into one if I can catch it before takeoff, but now I've got to try this.

    • @jimmyqballs
      @jimmyqballs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah shooting them down is purely for point milking. Helicopters are worth a minimum of 16,000 points, so if that is your goal they are essential for a big score. 5,000 for the helicopter, then a minimum of 5 crack bags (up to 9 bags). They are worth 200 at the time of pickup, + 2,000 at the end of a level. So 5,000 + (200 X 5) + 10,000 = 16,000 minimum! It's really tricky to do and also time consuming lol, but it works

    • @JudgmentStorm
      @JudgmentStorm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it's even better, the crack bags are 500 when picked up. 17,500 minimum there rather than 16,000. I've seen some drop 10 bags, so this can be up to 30,000 total for one helicopter as long as it's shot down. Ramming a car into a helicopter doesn't get the 5,000 for that kill.

I actually played this a ways back at a Barcade for the first time on hardware and managed to clear it on my first attempt but the score was only around 3.9 million. It'd definitely be a lot tougher to get a big score on the arcade because of how god awful the stick/buttons are. I should go back on a slow afternoon and try to record a decent run, or just buy a cabinet lol

    • @TJ_Actual1
      @TJ_Actual1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not knocking/judging your run. Just finished my run two hrs ago on my dedicated NARC machine and only got around 4 million. Saw your score and was amazed but saw MAME. MAME has a bad rep bc of cheating and it's emulation. Not saying you cheated but I'd love to see you run NARC on a dedicated machine. Your score is amazing

    • @jimmyqballs
      @jimmyqballs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I should head back out to the arcade and try to record a legit 5+ million on hardware, just need more practice with the controls. I learned this game in Mame and my button layout was almost opposite of the arcade version so I was constantly fumbling with the rocket and crouch lol. 4 Million is still a good game and just clearing Narc on a 1CC is still an achievement in itself, it's not an easy game. 5 million + is a strong game that can be achieved without too much luck and even a modest jackpot room. There are so many situations where either the bust ratio is low, or what side the enemies show up that completely changes the dynamic of so many situations. The final rooms before Mr. Big can be nasty if it's stingy with rocket drops, or what side the dogs spawn on. The Jackpot room tends to vary from around 800,000 to about 1,560,000 which is a huge variance for an otherwise modest scoring game... If you get a chance you should try the 10/10 Extra Extra Hard difficulty if you get a chance in the dip switch settings, it's much more intense and good practice when you go back to the default 3/10 "Easy" mode!
