- Originally aired as part of the "Christmas" episode (Episode Episode SH1C12) on the Food Network, December 9th, 2004.
Prep Time:20 min, Level: Easy, Yield: 8 to 10 servings
Ingredients:
Cake:
1 pre-made chocolate jelly roll cake
Filling and frosting:
1 (16-ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cocoa powder, for dusting
Forest Mushrooms:
10 miniature marshmallows
10 chocolate kiss candies, unwrapped
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
Special Equipment: 10 toothpicks
Directions:
Lay cake on a clean work surface. Mix the whipped topping and vanilla extract together until combined. Spread white frosting over the top of the cake to coat completely. Roll up the cake, jelly-roll style, and then cover the outside of the cake with the frosting. Drag a fork along the length of the cake to form a bark design. Dust with cocoa powder and refrigerate.
For the forest mushrooms, insert 1 toothpick through each marshmallow and then into the flat side of the chocolate kiss to form "mushroom." Group chocolate mushrooms along cake by inserting toothpicks into surface of cake, at intervals to resemble growths of forest mushrooms. Dust chocolate kiss candies with confectioners' sugar. Slice and serve.
So Aunt Sandy just added cool hwhip to a giant hoho and called it cooking?
tiraXpyrrha ... it’s cooking cause she also dusted it with cocoa powder
I see what you did 😂
🤣😂
She has had her "two shots" of vodka.
I like how the first ingredient in a Yule Log Cake is a Yule Log Cake.
Yes!
I mean, how else will you get an authentic yule log cake?
FIRST SHOT THEY BLURRED OUT THE COOL WHIP BUT THEN THEY JUST STOPPED TRYING
Sophia Magri I went back to see what you meant and I'm crying haha!!
the cool whip pulled out its titties
"I shouldn't have to put any more effort than she does." - Editor
I think it's because only the word "cool" was in the frame
"And that vanilla really cuts the packaged taste!" hahahaha Here's a thought--you could whip some actual cream--doesn't really take that much longer!
NEVERRR
Lol, I love how the rating for the recipe is "Easy". No crap, she literally just smothered a store-bought cake in whipped cream.
Love that the packaged "natural" vanilla flavor is used to cut the flavor of the packaged whipped topping.
"In your grocery store you already have a chocolate cream roll." Ummm, I have never seen anything like that in my grocery store. But, I think that it would be fairly easy to make, if one wanted to. She must shop at a grocery store that has everything you could think of. I live in a rural area and our stores are not stocked with stuff like this, which is fine by me!
OneFrugalMom actually Yule logs are difficult to make
Walmart has pumpkin cream rolls right now
Yule logs are technically difficult to make. Your cake has to be the right thickness and texture, and you have to be very gentle and careful when rolling it. If all of these things are not correct, the cake could crack and fall apart. That being said, if the cake cracks a little, you'll be fine because yule logs are completely covered in frosting. The really difficult roll cakes are the kind with a design covering the outside. Those absolutely cannot crack.
Mmmmm yes slather on the whipped "tahping" on your giganto swiss roll. Don't forget to bring the coors and totinos pizza kids, its gonna be a sad christmas
lol....
OMFG I’m crying as I’m typing this. This is pure gold 😂😂
Happy Birthmas.
Not with her cocktail glasses Christmas tree!
You want to cut that package taste Sandy? Making your own damn cream is a good place to start
do u mean by "sandy" sandra?
yes
+B-Minus oh k
It literally would only take 30 seconds longer to whip some fresh cream....
I'd rather eat the Swiss roll on its own
This is the most unintentionally hilarious thing I've ever seen.
Am I tripping or did she just cover a ready cakeroll with cool whip and that's it?
Sandra Lee's stuff would be great crafty things for kids. My sister-in-law teaches at a school for kids who are physically or psychologically compromised to the point of not being able to function at a normal school (beyond special-ed). She's constantly looking for activities to do with them. Maybe I'll start sending her Sandra Lee's videos.
She should left it as it was at the beginning, when she bought it from the store. It looked more like a yule log before she drowned it in cool whip.
Dear god she's wearing red on red.
BUT IT'S CHRISTMAS
This is her most aesthetically pleasing "recipe" and it's of a white log with simulated fungi on it.
Now I have to say, she had me at those little mushrooms.
Wow! Sandra Lee is such a genius!!! Who would of ever thought of putting cool whip on to a processed yule log???
Blurred out the cool whip like an episode of cops. Kraft: “Keep me out of this”
I love how she can't even buy heavy cream and put a hand mixer in it for a minute
I don't understand how this woman got her own show. Is this really what the food network has come to?
What she thinks her friends will say:
"Sandra, what a beautiful cake! Did you make it?"
What they REALLY say:
"What is this shit?"
she doesnt even know that a log cake is brown icing with sugar sprinkled... not a white log with cocoa powder... jeez
Okay I will give it to her that makes a convincing log effect with the knife
Nothing says Christmas like a Cool (h)Whip yule log topped with festive Holiday 'shrooms!
she put more effort into the mushrooms than the dessert itself
All the sugar in this brings new meaning to the line "all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth,".
Vanilla extract makes everything taste homemade according to Aunt Sandy
So how many people scraped off the cool whip when they ate it?
She knows more about mushrooms than she does cooking.
I love how they blur out the name "Cool Whip" when it is obviously that.
When she turned around I expected to see buttons and a drop flap.
"lil' baby marshmallows"
+Casey J As opposed to big Daddy Marshmallows. lol.
Nathan Barnes pls no XD
If one celebrates Christmas and they want to make food for loved ones, then wouldn’t you want to put in some effort? I get it can be a lot to cool for a crowd but there’s other ways to cut corners. Frozen veggies . Pre cut veggies. If you do dinner, have someone bring a dessert that makes really good dessert.
If she and Ina Garten switched places, this show would make a whole lot more sense.
As someone who made a swiss roll cake multiple times, I feel a tad attacked.
2:47 watcha got on the door, aunt sandy?
i was actually very surprised at the roll cake itself in the beginning when they showed the picture..and i thought she actually baked it herself but BAM! she takes out a store bought cake..
Can't have a chocolate yule log without some cool (h)whip!
"...and what that vanilla does for you is just cuts the packaged taste."
Only Auntie Sandy can disguise processed food with more processed food.
how is this in any form cooking?? honestly she should not have a show
I make mine the same way, except I lick the fork after each time I drag it across the log
Yule logs
Christmas
Mushrooms
One of these should not be associated with the others on a cake...
or at all.
The only “chocolate cream roll” I’ve ever seen in my grocery store is in a package of Hostess Ho Hos.
Also, anyone else notice that at 13 seconds in they blur out the cool whip on the side but at 24 they don't? Guess we're not supposed to be able to read things that are at an angle.
I work in a grocery store, and we don't sell chocolate cream rolls, nor do we sell pre-chopped mushrooms. Sandra would probably burn the place down.
Yes, nothing like a capful of vanilla extract to cut the taste of cool whip and pre-packaged cake.
"And what this vanilla does for you, is it just cuts the packaged taste" ---
she knows exactly what she's doing.
the packaged taste....
can anyone tell me please what are the ingredients of the whipped topping can shw uses?? is it buttercream or royal icing??
This is what a Little Debbie swiss roll looks like magnified 10x.
"Now in your grocery store you already have a chocolate creme roll," also known as Hostess Ho-Hos. Well played, Aunt Sandy.
Wait... She just bought a cake and put cool whip on it... *sets house on fire*
OH MY GOD We DRAG the FORK and it makes a PATTERN?!?!?!?!!11!! MY MIND IS BLOWN AAAAAAH.
Sandra, dear... Go nurse you cocktails in the corner and let us do the cooking.
why is cool whip blurred out?
Aunt Sandy reminds me of Ellen Griswold in Christmas vacation
I like how it censors the Cool Whip (poorly) and then proceeds to show it anyway a few seconds later -_-
hi im sandra lee and to make my yule log cake, were going to buy a yule log cake and cover it in cool whip
Gordon Ramsay would sue her!
@xXshininRoXstarzxX its been a month, but this not just any chocolate cake, it is a Yule log, I dont know if you know, but Yule log always involves heavy icing, butter cream as its called, it wouldnt be a Log if there was no icing
Would plain or chocolate buttercream not be just as handy and a lot tastier?
I wonder if she the realizes that it looked more like a log before she covered it in Cool Whip? She should have just stuck the mushrooms in the original cake. Also, yay, she shoved sharp toothpicks into something meant to be eaten that isn't a sandwich. This could be the new Christmas Pudding! "Whoop, Billy bit into a toothpick first, everybody! He wins! Let's all head to the emergency room!"
this is the other thing i don't get....how hard is it to whip cream? just pour it into a bowl, add some sugar and beat it till it's stiff
Sandra's "cooking" is often comparable to simply putting some ketchup on a ready-made hamburger.
Out of everything else wrong with this video, the thing that irks me the most is that they censor Cool-Whip at 0:14, but don't censor it later in the video even though the logo is still clearly visible.
Okay so let me get this straight, to get your yule log cake to look like a yule log cake you have to start with a store bought yule log cake and then cover it with store bought whip cream and then run a fork through it to make it look like a yule log cake. Oh Sandy.
what was the point of blurring out the cool whipped when we saw it later in the show? lol...
why does she always use whipped topping?!
It bothers me that she uses a knife instead of a toothpick for the details
I love how they hide the logo. Even Cool Whip is ashamed of this!
would love to see the expression of the camera crew.... seriously... how do they manage?!?!
Put it in the FREEZER? I have so many questions.
The mushrooms are really cute. Too bad they're being wasted on this travesty of a "recipe".
i have to admit those mushrooms are cute
i can't help but notice that section she didn't smother with the whipped topping. :38
Honestly, I would be pretty okay with this if she didn’t use cool whip.
Dear Sandra
freezing something does not automatically make it a frozen dessert! What next? frozen hamburgers for an icy summer treat??
i can cut the package taste by adding some vanilla to the cool whipped :D
That's a really pretty "Yole Log"
I’ve never seen a giant ding dong at my grocery store
THIS IS FROM TEN YEARS AGO PEOPLE
they tried to censor the whipped cream container but I can still the brand name
I don't cook at all, and I'm aware that the show is called SEMI-Homemade, but shouldn't at least one thing in each episode be homemade?
I don't need a video to show me how to spread store-bought icing on a store-bought yule log. :p But the comments on these videos make my day!
This woman is pure comedy gold!
Why the hell would she use MUSHROOMS ON HER TURDLOG?!
And where's the vodka?
If I were to make this myself, I'd instead make a giant Swiss Cake Roll from scratch and use REAL whipped cream with the cocoa powder mixed in with it rather than half-assedly sprinkling it on top. The only thing store-bought would be the marshmallow and gumdrop mushrooms.
Now THAT is how you do semi-homemade cooking.
Always using the unsweetened cocoa powder... She astounds me.
Never seen a white log before
Sandra-You got 5 minutes youve got a yule log
Me-Correction. You got an hour you got a yule log.first you have to drive to the store and get the right log. then you have to find cool whip and vanilla and kisses and marshmellows. then u have to drive home and make all of the mushrooms then you have to frost the cake swirl it and srtipe it and put all of the mushrooms on. then wait for it to chill. and if you have all of the ingredents already. about a half an hour to fourty-five minutes. correct
@sacremende my grocery stall does sell premade swissrolls... it goes for $1.90 per 300g roll.
Everytime she coats anything in Cool Whip I shudder.
well it didnt blur it out @ 0:23 lol
Laziest cook on earth
It's okay, Cool Whip, I wouldn't want anyone to know I was involved with this either.
They should have used chocolate frosting and powdered sugar instead of vanilla frosting and cocoa powder.
Sandy you've really gone off the deep end
It would take me longer than 5 mins to make a yule log that size.
HOW is this even a recipe?! She covered a store bought cake with cool whip. I can't with her...
I feel like if you're not going to bother making the cake, the least you can do is whip some cream.
I have to admit I like the mushrooms
