So today i thought id compile the consoles together and compare them to one another. No matter how you look at it all three are great but lets see which one stands above the others.

      This "pseudo scanline" effect, coupled with the screen that has 240 lines in height are what makes my New 3DS XL my primary retro emulation machine. The 3DS (not 2DS) screen is actually 800x240 in resolution, but has pixels that are 2x thinner in width than they are in height, which makes vertical gaps of separate pixels not as noticeable in 2D mode. And that is what creates this scanlines effect - the contrast between wider horizontal gaps and narrower, almost invisible vertical gaps.
      And the 240p resolution just makes all those retro games from 8-16 bit Nintendos and Segas pixel-perfect. Beautiful.

    I think the Vita's library really depends on if you're a heavy JRPG fan or not. Cause while good non-JRPG games can be on the rarer side (which even still are quite common if you just dig a little), the VITA really shines on the JRPG and Visual Novel Spectrum. There's tons of great titles. Also, JP sellers sell VITA's in remarkably amazing conditions for how old the console is so I think ~150 bucks is actually pretty justified.

I also love how Adrenaline adds PSP to the Vita and so it becomes two consoles in one. Vita can also play PS1 games very easily. I love 2DS/3DS, but I'd say Vita is better. PSP games look and play great on Vita with the bigger and better screen and dual analog sticks. The SD adapter is a must for Vita when modded. As someone with all 3 and a modern smart phone, I'd rather use any dedicated handheld over a smart phone. A lot of people who share this opinion use the 'dedicated controls' argument, but as you mentioned there are a lot of controller options for phones that work great. The issue is that I need my phone for other things. I'm constantly getting messages, notifications, emails, and sometimes phone calls which would disrupt my gaming sessions. And beyond that, while I'm out, gaming on my phone runs the risk of killing my battery which could make me miss important calls or texts.
    That's why dedicated handhelds are so important, for emulation and otherwise. And I'm not about to drop $1000+ on a second phone lol.

The PSP is the one I have the most nostalgia for since I got it when they were still being sold new and I love it. I always loved the fact that it was the only portable device on the market with a spinning disc drive. I always thought the UMD was the physical media of the future. It's okay that I was wrong but the world has changed a ton since I first started playing with the PSP and I still think it's an awesome console even by today's standards. I think one other reason people would mod these rather than emulating on a mid end android device is simply because of the hardware feel to it. I still haven't found any android controller that is comparable to actual game console manufacturer. • @nikopierrot
    @nikopierrot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The 3DS is probably your best option if you want to play strictly Nintendo games. It is backwards compatible with DS cartridges and GBA roms (through injection), and has GBC/GB emulators that can have roms injected in with PC software. In terms of emulation, the 3DS can handle n64 and PSX fairly well on a few select titles. Although, if you're playing PSX games, you probably want to use a PSP or Vita anyway. Vita has great utility as a PS4 controller, but the PSP is much easier to find if you don't live in Japan. The Vita does make the PSP redundant and actually enhances games that use the D-Pad as a camera, but the PSP is a lot more straightforward to use.

      Everything is pretty well emulated on PC. Same thing with smartphones. We aren’t comparing those obviously. However what the OP is considering is the immersive experience. The spacing between screens is always messed up and using buttons on a touch screen as well as the tough screen itself feels clunky. People use modded consoles for the sake of preserving the experience. Otherwise this video wouldn’t exist and we would all be using computers and cell phones. Preserving authenticity is more difficult for DS and 3DS as a result of the dual screen. That’s what the OP is saying.

    Some details that the video is missing when it comes to vita. First of all vita is great as a streaming device as well. It can stream play pc/ps3/ps4 games easily. You can either connect with on tv with a small gadget called ps tv or with its bluetooth via pc. You can also as a hacked console, install a plugin that allows you to use a ps4 controller. Vita as a handheld device is a godsend gift but we all know how sony wrongfully neglected it. Btw vita slim might not have a beautiful OLED screen, but the LCD screen is pretty great and compared to oled vita, slim has a microUSB port and not a dedicated cable making charging and file transfer easier, its lighter(its plastics might feel a bit cheaper, but vita slim is just as sturdy) and has 1gb of internal memory that allows you to hack it without the need of buying a vita memory card. Finally vita Oled screens tend to lose their color fidelity over time. Lots of used oled vita screens now start showing less depth when it comes to black colors when tested. My advice is to go for a vita slim

    Don’t forget about the 3ds virtual console library and the arcade 3d remakes, it’s not just emulation, but they went above and beyond to provide great exclusive ports of retro gems from a huge variety of consoles. For me I find the nds library (huge and diverse) to be a bit more interesting then the psp library, because of how some games manage to use the touch screen in creative ways, and thus it adds up to the regular game pad. Athough the 3d screen from the 3ds is not essencial, I absolutely love to have that option on the table, the worst thing about the 3ds is the underused c-stick, don’t even bother doing the mod, I played resident evil with it and it was fine after adjusting the sensitivity of the in game options. But that’s it, just a few games taking advantage of this new 3ds stick, while the ps vita nailed the second analog directional. Just start with the older ones and make your way up, like my good man said in the video.

    Vita's can be easily found for under a $100 in the Philippines. I guess it's a steal if $150 is the usual asking price.
    By the way, the Vita is superior in every way to the PSP asides from ease of modding and price. You can even play every single PSP game on it. Just wanna throw that out there.

      None of the SA-1 and SuperFX games run all that well, even on the "new" 3DS with its faster CPU. That said, Star Fox 2 (unreleased) is about the best looking SNES game to be able to run on it. Yoshi's Island, another special chip (SuperFX I think) game runs at like 45-50fps on both Vita/PSP and 3DS, whereas its flawless on any modern Android. Android phones are definitely the most capable of the three as they can run much more games at perfect speed.

    I actually chose to get the 2000 model of vita on purpose, theres a way to make the screen look closer to the oled through modding, it has better battery life, and for some games with poor performance on vita I can overclock and still have about as much battery life as the 1000
    Altho it was hard for me to mod, it destroyed my memory card, and I was never able to get sd2vita working, so yeah the vita has the best functionality but the actual process of modding it is a nightmare, and this is coming from someone who has nodded a psp and a 3ds

    • @fauxaccount6233
      @fauxaccount6233 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing with the ps vita 2000 is that it has internal memory and the ps vita 1000 doesn't. So, if the original owner screwed up the modding process for a ps vita 1000, factory reset is as easy as taking out the memory card.
      I'm sorry to hear that you could not make sd2vita work, I recommend you to reset and try again, I have a 256gb card and I could fill it within two days of ps vita games.

    I wouldn’t recommend using an R4 for your DS. I read somewhere there’s a discrepancy with the voltage being incorrect for the cartridges and while it can still play, it’ll slowly damage your system overtime. Basically happened to my DSi causing it to not be able to boot up half the time. Current homebrew allows you to emulate DS games without a flashcart making it much safer and cheaper.
