Sorkin speaks mainly to the Gen X PMC of the Atlantic northeast, thus why studio 60 was so awkward but the Newsroom killed. theres no real connection between the characters beyond what were shown and told its....look, Im high AF, im gonna go eat this Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch and pass out. one love.

It's shocking that he likes Tarantino because his movies are driven massively by characters. His last movie is about two hours of it's three hour runtime of characters either revealing or trying to hide aspects of themselves. Most of the problems in Tarantino movies are caused by the flaws of the characters rather than the other way around. Not as much of a tragedy of errors like a coen or safdie brothers film but it's still in most of his work. I hope it genuinely isn't just the superficial reason that Tarantino is good at snappy dialogue.
My favorite part about it is that Shenmue is like a genuinely horrible game that isn't fun to play at all. Like I've never seen anyone who didn't grow up with Shenmue play it and think it was anything but infuriating and boring.

I think it is fair to say than Yu Suzuki circa the late 90s had a passion for video games, and ambitious vision shows in the the first two Shenmue games even though story is a really bad imitation of a martial arts movie. It was a technically impressive game with honestly decent gameplay if you could get over some of its clunkiness (there is absolutely no excuse for Shenmue 3 though). David Cage by comparison, clearly despises all the conventions of gaming, so instead of making a traditional game with cinematic elements like Shenmue. Cage makes moderately interactive movies that eschew nearly anything resembling game mechanics. There are a multitude of games out there that qualify as cinematic experiences or are heavily story focused but are still video games. But Cage is clearly only interested in the movie aspect
