I've replaced tine sets on several BCS tiller attachments. I replace the factory grade 8.8 bolts with grade 10.9 bolts. The factory bolts tend to distort and can be awful to get out. Also, you should mention that the inner tine hub should also be removed at this time to clean the stuff that gets behind the seal protector. This area builds up with twine, wire, plant material, etc, and will eventually ruin the seal.

Are 2x 8mm bolts for each tine a special kind of shear bolt? Busted a couple today and the unthreaded bolt diameter appears to be smaller than the thread diameter, or maybe mine are just severely worn out....

Nope, sounds like yours may have been really worn out.

The current tines fit BCS tillers built all the way back to 1983. You're good with a new set. The question is what size is your tiller?
If it is a 20" tiller, the new tine kit part number is T20U. If it is a 26" tiller, you'll need T26U. Tine kits include all the replacement nuts and bolts as well.

How do you put the oil in the tine gearbox and what kind of oil do you use?

@@BCSAmerica Thanks for that diagram. The video above shows a tine arrangement on a larger tiller than I have and the video also shows a tine configuration with 4 tines on the inner most hubs closest to the gear box and 2 tines on the outer most hubs. Mine is a 710 and the previous tines are in opposite configuration. Did someone do something wrong before I bought this?. The tines are so worn when I bought this I really have no idea where they belong. The diagram above for the 18 inch model helps but do the four tines go on the inner or outer hubs?

@@outdoorsjake For an 18" tiller box, two tines on the outside holders and four on the inside.
