The NHL is terrible at this stuff. I know there have been a bunch of retirement ceremonies this season but it’s still a relatively rare occurrence. NHL Network barely mentioned Pekka Rinne or Sergei Zubov a couple weeks ago either. They just played a quick highlight of the ceremonies 3 hours later. They couldn’t interrupt some mediocre panel rambling about some mediocre regular season games??

-Koivu was a very good leader and defensive minded forward giving his best every night. Another thing he was good at was his classic shootout goals.
-Unfortunatelly the team wasn't very well managed during his session and they never had a good team enough to challenge for long playoff run.
-He could be compared to francise players Mats Sundin and Shane Doan who also was captains for a long time with no playoff success.
