@@ayycardinal6802How do you know they are single mothers? Also, which family name are you talking about? Do you know how family names are passed on in most American families? A single mother might pass on the family name (Green) because the kids might get her maiden name. Therefore, the family name would be passed on. If his daughters got married, then they would most likely accept their husband’s name and give their children the husband’s name (not Green).
Reading the title I was surprised Green's 28 hadn't already been retired. He was one of those rare players that was universally respected by ALL NFL fans.
Eagles fan, character transcends rivalry. There’s players all over the NFC East that I respect and admire. Jason Witten, Sean Taylor, Darrell Green, Brian Dawkins. We’re blessed with rivalries full of great men. See you guys next year!

@nealm6764 we have had many numbers that are "unofficially retired". They just took them out of the rotation bit never actually retired them. Im glad new ownership is getting it done. There are a few more we gotta do before all these guys are gone.
used to hoop with DG at the Vienna park..... multiple times...he was there a lot and not anyone who ever thought he was anything more than a player trying to ball.. many of them aren't.. but let me tell you.... he' 100% real and genuine when my friend sprained his knee Darrell.. stopped and helped Bob off the court and made sure he was ok before continuing ..he was always the adult in the room, he was the king in that park.. you could almost see the white light around him..i kid you not.. you felt a lift being near him..... great honor for a great man.
Darrell is an absolute HUMBLE LEGEND!!! I met him in 91, when my Uncle Dan (R.I.P.) got us playoff tickets for that year, ON THE ROCKING BLEACHERS!!!! It was such an absolute blast. Four years ago I was walking on my way back from lunch in D.C. wearing a Redskins Coat that had the superbowls and some of the great players numbers on it, including his. I hear a voice call out "Man, thats a nice jacket!" I turn around and it's Darrell Green getting out of a limo!! I smiled from ear to ear and just said "Man....any chance we can get you back on the field?!? Or defense could sure use your help!" He just smiled and said..."Man...I'm still quick, but not THAT quick!!" He was out there to pick up his son from work, we chatted for like 10 minutes before he came down, I told him I had worked for 10 years at FedEx Field as an usher, he loved hearing my quick stories about the fans in the nosebleed sections...such a cool individual. So happy for him to get this honor!!
on behalf of Cowboy fans all over teXas, you were truly one of our worst nightmares. because you were truly one of the best out there. congrats Mr. Green.

I will always remember how much John Madden used to gush about Darrell Green. I'm a diehard Cowboys fan and he always commanded respect. Definition of playing the game the right way. Awesome video.

My favorite Washington player and had the honor of meeting him when his wife and mines graduated college together. That 5 minute conversation with him. One of the greatest moments of my life. Congratulations#28.
Coming from an 80s baby Dallas Cowboys fan, Congrats to you. You was one of the greatest to ever do it. As a kid i loved when you and Irvin played against each other. Respect to you Mr.Green
#28 will be officially retired this year. About time. So glad. Darrell Green has always been my favorite Redskin. Followed closely by Art Monk. Seeing them go in to the HOF together was one of the best nights of my life.
I was going to leave that comment if it wasn't here already. ART MONK was professionalism personified. Always stayed in shape in the off season and showed up to training camp ready for the season to start. In his era, there was ONLY ONE receiver with more impressive statistics - Jerry Rice. When Monk was inducted into the Hall of Fame (the same day as D. Green), he received the longest standing ovation in the history of that institution by FELLOW PLAYERS. If they all recognize his greatness...it's time for the Washington Commanders to do the same.
@MrVvulf 100 percent bro. Monk was subject to a run first offense in a run heavy league for the fist 10 years of his career too. And was the only WR in NFL history to win 3 superbowls with 3 different QBs.
I'm 53 and have literally been a Washington fan since I was 3 yrs old. I watched some incredible football back in my middle school and high school years and Darrel Green was front and center. An absolutely incredible player and even better human. Total respect for 28.

I cried watching this. He means so much to so many, and it’s just unbelievable to finally have competent ownership that can do this stuff the right way.
