thanks heaps for this mate. I am just getting started in the hobby and am trying to learn as much as i can...your vids have really helped, so thanks for taking the time...from Aus...
hello me French sorry for me bad English me question is the best take is GT-3 Vs GT-3TP , te screen GT3 is very clear no ? and for other fonction was the best very thanks for help for take the model
i have the Gt-3tp and not work in dual stand by....When i call from active fr from 1st radio not hear the other from not active but the same freq. Is this problem or not?? What can i do?
Hi, is there any Firmware that let´s it also broadcast in DMR mode, so uses digital codecs instead of just analog FM ? I wanted to have a DMR device, but unfortunately bought this device, which standardly has only analog FM modulation. I wanted to have a digital scrambler and digital codec, so not much noise... Thanks.
In regards to the GT-3TP battery. I am concerned about the extra power demand while transmitting on 8w. Would you recommend the larger battery for this radio. Or will the stock 1800 battery be sufficient. Thanks.
Hey dude - great channel some good content. Thinking seriously about getting my ham foundation license and looking at a cheap HT to get me started. I'm looking at either the Baofeng UV-5RTP or the GT-3TP - both 8w models. Which one would you say in you experience is the better radio based on the default antenna?
Cheers Andy! Definitely go for your license mate. I'd just get a normal 5w one, Baofeng UV-82, UV-5R, UV-5X are all excellent. You won't notice any difference between 5w or 8w.
Before you replied I sent for the GT-3TP it hasn't arrived yet. I also signed up to a 'club' that has a business license to use specific frequencies, so as soon as mine get's here I'll be giving it a try. Trouble is this license is limited to 5w so the radio is too powerful on full and medium power based on your measurements (and others that have repeated the experiment). So I just had to order a UV-5R as well. It turn's out one of my old bosses is a full license holder and doesn't live far from me so I'm going to be getting some help with the license prep.
A friend of mine and i own a GT-3 each, but do have slight connection problems out there were we live. Should we switch to the TP, or stick with the GT-3 and get a longer antenna? We are both complete amateurs on this subject
Great video I am thinking of ordering the GT3 TP Radio. One thing that is putting me off the radio is the antenna attachment is set quite far down in the body. Is there anyway to fit after market antennas to this radio?
+Ringway Manchester I don't understand why they made the radio like this. I was really hoping for a easy fix but i guess there is not one as I have not seen any videos on how to do this. I may have to look at a different model what is a shame. As I already have 2 antennas that fit baofeng Radios. (Thank you for your reply )
+M6GOF Hi Mark, for the difference a couple of watts makes, I'd just go for the UV-82 mate. Absolutely fantasic radio. Sorry to hear your GT-3 isn't working. I've got 4 and not had a problem. 73
Just weighing that up as an option. So, would you say the increase in power is barely measurable in real day to day QSO terms? What's the difference in simplex to simplex scenarios versus the usual Baofeng variants?
+chlpatyvlas It's a hard one to answer. Officially the UV-82 is the best but it depends on its use, conditions, location, what band it's using etc. Also quality control is a bit inconsistant. In short though, the UV-82 :)
Hello, Found your channel by Chance and being quite close by in Sheffield thought i'd give a sub ! Absolute amature and looking into getting a GT3-TP, but wondered if there was any sites you recommend to learn all things Ham radio :) ? Thanks and keep up the great vids !
I bought the GT-3 Mk II, just the other day. It arrived and the display is the normal type, light background and dark lettering. Same as my Tripower. I wanted the dark screen. I'm confused as to why the GT-3 came with the light color screen. Maybe the newer ones are coming with the newer screen?
I have friends with the same issue. I think its just down to what components are at the factories. Numerous manufacturers make them on Baofengs behalf. Some legit, some counterfeit.
Yeah, it seems to be the case. I'm having a terrible time with Nicheone on Ebay trying to explain this. They don't seem to get it. They're very quick to reply, but can't seem to understand that I wanted the reverse LCD type.
I'd tell them its faulty, get a full refund and return it. Or try for a partial refund and keep the radio. I've had 4 from Nextbigthink and they all have dark screens.
I'm thinking of getting 2 x gt3's , I am a total beginner. Want to have something to be able to communicate in an emergency situation you know shtf, and also like to learn more about this. I know all is subject to personal taste and use, but could you advice me on any pros and cons wether to buy gt3 mk2 or gt-3tp ? Is it just the power output that differs, and the display? Do I even need an 8w:er , or might it be sensible to buy an 8watter while you're at it since it's not that big of a price difference? big thanks if you would answer to these questions! greetings from Sweden

+Ringway Manchester Ok thanks for your reply ;) So you think I should rather buy a uv82 than a gt-3 mk2 ? I thought the gt3 was at least a newer model and therefore perhaps somewhat better? don't want to bother you with unnecessary questions, but grateful for your response! thanks 😃
nice well delivered and educated tutorial and test. I am ready to buy! BUT had heard this radio needed some extra special 20$ programming cable for windows 10 and also that it did not work with the CHIRP?? Any of this true? Thanks again.
Thank you very much! The radio takes the standard baofeng cable which can be found for under $10 and I use windows 10 on all my cables that I used to use on Windows 7 :) It also works in Chirp
Hey Lewis, I got a GT-3 MK2 delivered today! Only problem is, it has the standard 3 colour display!?! And it's not the TP unfortunately!??! Not sure what's going on there lol
Hello I wonder which radio is better. The BF UV82HX (8W) or BF GT-3TP Mark 3 (8W) I want to get a good talk range and clear voice. What do you think? Thank You!
Imho personaly seen orange & small body of GT3 seems alike disposable radio :)... and better ic inside UV-82 in par with other reviewr agree it more than a beginner handy talkie. hope that gives u line of view as better option as i personally rec UV 82HP
Is this radio 400 - 520 mhz out if the box or do you need to unlock these frequencies using cable. A review on Amazon makes out that they come locked to something like 430-480mhz and needs opening up on chirp, not sure if he is just trying to out people of buying Baofeng radios.
Hi, also like to use it as a scanner, will I not find anything either side of 420 to 480? Here is the description of Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/Baofeng-Mark-III-Tri-Power-Transceiver-Capacity/dp/B01F9ZWDKU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1515284701&sr=8-2&keywords=baofeng+gt Frequecy Range: VHF: 136-174 Mhz (Rx/Tx), UHF: 400-520 Mhz (Rx/Tx). Note: Factory defaults frequecy is 140-150/430-440MHz (8W Output), please reset the radio to reach 136-174/400-470MHz or program it to reach 470-520MHz (The software is the same as GT-3 Mark-II).
Yea my eye's aren't what they used to be. I really liked the dark display as well. I guess I'll just grab the GT-3 and just not worry about the added power. Thanks again for your review. Probably saved me a bunch of eye strain. Cheers!
I just picked up a GT-3 MK 2 FOR £25 On ebay Cant complain has most of the features of a High ender but flipping heck 25 quid is a steal. Reasonably built little things too. Anyone know if there is any repeaters in or located near EDINBURGH. Not hear a lot of activity here, Managed to pick up some Private Air light air craft from the Para Glider club and could com with them. Also do you need a Licence to use these handhelds? I know some places if you have a Desk rig its required :/
Yeah they're a bargain! As for licensing, what do you want to do with it? If you let me know I can tell you more about licensing requirements etc cause every band is different. :)

hi i have just come back to radio i used to be on CB radio about 15 years ago. so i thought i would give it another go now. i have just bought a Baofeng UV6R RADIO to see how it gos. i also collect old retro radios and listen to SW RADIO ALOT. BUT could you help me out as i am in the manchester area and would appreciate it if you could give me a few frequencies to listen in on as i will be going in for my foundation licence soon. so i can transmit too. i also bought a NA771 SMA Nagoya Antenna. hope you can help. i have also subbed to both your channels keep up the good work great video. regards Steve.
thank you for getting back to me so soon really appreciate it. my baofeng UV6R arrived today still finding my away around it. i have had alot of airport channels on like you have said. would like to listen to some amateur radio too if you could help me out with some frequencies. you make some interesting videos too look forward to watching more.
Hello my friend, what an excellent video, I'm about to buy my first radios, I'm not going to program anything, I just want to talk, which I recommend between UV-82 GT-3 mark2 GT-3TP GT-5 I already thank you and I apologize for my bad English
listen closely i'm so glad you mentioned 2 things im also noticing and turns out you were good in helping these same 2 issues make better sense on my end You See,, i Have exactly both Radios you do #1 i hate the GT3TPIII Screen because the contrast is inferior to the older GT3 Hands Down, #2 and biggest point of all, //this GT3TP Receive and TX are Again inferior to the My Older GT3, & good thing i noticed because iv had the GT3 Up for Sale thinking the TP111 Would be replacing it? but its the other way Around? So im so disappointed, Also discovered the GT3TPIII IS a Whooping 20Hz Off on both TX And RX Which explains it not Receiving & not hitting repeaters? :/ it took 6 hours of trouble Shooting finally i tuned both Radios to Simplex 444.4000, and neither radio would talk to each other even With All 1-to-40 Menu items Set Exactly the Same on Both GT3 And GT3TP, though what gave my hint away to me was i heard fine scratching of voice bleed over and thought to myself hey lets start bumping the Tuning steps Up 5 Steps at a time 5Hz on one and then the other Well i never had any question on the older GT3 Because it was hitting 25 Repeaters at just 1 watt Yet out of that Same 25 the Newer GT3TPIII Was Only And Barily Hitting 4 of the Same 25 uploaded Chirp image file, :/ wasn't looking to good at this Point it was quickly looking bad for the Newer MK111 Ok So back to what happened So as i spoke into my Older GT3 On Simplex 444.000 while also slowly Started Bumping Up 5hz Receiving of GT3TPIII and At 444.005 i started hearing my older GT3 Bump again 444.010 i heard more clearly and louder, Then 444.415 Louder //=More clearly and Finally 444.420 was perfect BINGO..IT Was hearing dead ON? So Just to be sure i went past to 444.025 BUT NOP It Was 444.420 was the Magic Spot While the Old GT3 Was On the Actual Correct Frequency Of 444.000 and both Radio Voice Cross talk back and Forth Perfectly, So the GT3TP MKIII Is a Whooping 20Hz Off Frequency on Both TX And RX :/ :( So obviously the GT3TPIII Is Garbage and its to late to return because iv been so busy i never had enough play time to trouble shoot this and actually get to the real bottom of it untill just Today? :/ I'm so disappointed :/ That Said,, PLEASE if anyone else has this same exact issue and gets the time to Test following my Directions here the Exact way I Did, PLEASE Share back the way i Shared this find with You? my older GT3 Outperforming whats suppose to be an Upgrade GT3TP IS SH1T :- So Ringway Manchester, PLEASE Program yours VFO with the Same frequencys and See if you get the same outcome? and or if yours will even communicate on the same Frequency? They only Talk Perfectly between old and new WHEN I Program New GT3TPIII At 444.4020 And Old GT3 At 444.000..Only At this Point they Both Cross talk Perfectly :/ and So No wonder My New GT3TPIII Wont hit repeaters :/ it Sux, C,P,
BAOFENG GT-3 + BAOFENG GT-3TP III MY REPLY TO REVIEW UPDATE ****** WELL I Tried Everything To Fix but Nothing Solved with The GT-3TP III ITS TOTAL GARBAGE //= INFERIOR THE OLD GT-3 So My Loss I Sold it Today for $20 So i lost $30 Only 2 Weeks Old, :/ And So i Took My Old MINT GT-3 Off the Action Market and Keeping It Instead I Can See the higher quality Screen much much better on The GT-3 And It HITS 20 REPEATERS WHERE THE GT-3TP MK III ONLY HIT 4 OUT OF THAT SAME 20 REPEATERS :/ SO RX AND TX BOTH FAR SUPERIOR ON OUR OLDER GT-3 HANDS DOWN, SO IF YOU GUYS DISCOVER THE SAME THEN PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AS US CUSTOMERS NEED TO STICK TOGETHER, SO THE SAINSONIC COMPANY MOVES PAST THEIR FAILURE MODELS INSTEAD OF CONTINUED STICKING US CUSTOMERS WITH THEM TILL THEY'V UNLOADED THEIR INTIRE STOCK OF THESE JUNKY VERSIONS? AND START SOONER PRODUCING LESS MODELS AND MORE FOCUS ON QUALITY CONTROL, ALSO PLEASE THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE FINDING THE SAME THING AS I HAVE PLEASE POST HERE OR EMAIL MESSAGE ME SO I KNOW WHETHER ITS JUST A COUPLE RARE LEMONS? OR WHETHER ITS TRULY GT-3 ROCK SOLID AND GT-3TP MARK III FAILED MODEL? 8 WATTS DON'T MEAN SH1T IF YOUR TX AND RX IS 20HZ OFF FREQUENCY YOU CAN'T HIT THE SIDE OF A BARN REPEATER WISE, AND THEN THERE'S ALSO FACT OF THE BETTER AND MORE VISABLE LCD SCREEN ON THE GT-3 AGAIN PLEASE LET ME KNOW GUYS? DO SHARE? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE :-)
Hi My GT3-TP delivers a maximum of 5.5 watts in VHF and 4 watts in UHF.
thanks heaps for this mate. I am just getting started in the hobby and am trying to learn as much as i can...your vids have really helped, so thanks for taking the time...from Aus...
Thanks for the comment Cristian! Hope it goes well for you and you get plenty of fun out of it. Anything you need to know give me a shout

I think you should try with other GT3-TP. I have checked some GT3-MKII and the power is very close to 8 watts
what is the brand of the antenna you replaced the sock one with?

awesome thanks for your reply and being a great TH-camr and sharing your knowledge. Thanks again
Cheers buddy very much appreciated!
Great video I am thinking of ordering the GT3 TP Radio. One thing that is putting me off the radio is the antenna attachment is set quite far down in the body. Is there anyway to fit after market antennas to this radio?
Without modifying the antenna's base with a file or something I'm not sure.

I ordered a GT3-P and not had much luck with it. Mine is transmitting below
It's not noticeable mate. To the point I hardly ever use my GT-3TP. It's all about antenna, conditions, location and terrain.
Cheers man, thought there wouldn't be a great deal in it. Might check out the Pofung GT-5 (which is only a variant of the UV82 anyway).
GT-5 is fantasic too mate. I have one of those. I have the GT-3WP in the post too. Will post an unboxing and review as soon as it comes.
Which one baofeng radio is the best? Gt3, gt3tp, uv5r, uv5r plus, uv82, bfuvb2? Thanks
+chlpatyvlas It's a hard one to answer. Officially the UV-82 is the best but it depends on its use, conditions, location, what band it's using etc. Also quality control is a bit inconsistant.
In short though, the UV-82 :)
Great video, Thankyou - What was the model of the antenna that you were using ?
Thanks Steve! I can't remember the model number, I'll have to dig it out
Hello, Found your channel by Chance and being quite close by in Sheffield thought i'd give a sub !
Absolute amature and looking into getting a GT3-TP, but wondered if there was any sites you recommend to learn all things Ham radio :) ?
Thanks and keep up the great vids !
+Alejandro Grau-Bassas Hi mate, youtube is the best place to learn, or look for a radio club in Sheffield :)
Or is the gt-3tp better in any other way? Do I even need an 8w:er , or might it be sensible to buy an 8watter while you're at it since it's not that big of a price difference?
big thanks if you would answer to these questions!
greetings from Sweden
I'd get yourself a GT-3WP or a UV-82 personally. You wont notice the difference really between 5w and 8w as it all depends on terrain, weather, conditions etc. Hope that helps
+Ringway Manchester Ok thanks for your reply ;) So you think I should rather buy a uv82 than a gt-3 mk2 ? I thought the gt3 was at least a newer model and therefore perhaps somewhat better? don't want to bother you with unnecessary questions, but grateful for your response! thanks 😃
Not a problem, happy to help. The UV-82 is better overall, the GT-3WP is even better.
nice well delivered and educated tutorial and test.
Ringway Manchester what's the secret to programming on windows 10
It does work with Chirp if you set it as a BF-F8HP.
Nice vid..what is the make of that power mtr ?
GY561
Hey Lewis, I got a GT-3 MK2 delivered today! Only problem is, it has the standard 3 colour display!?! And it's not the TP unfortunately!??! Not sure what's going on there lol
Ooh I'm not sure on that one mate
how is this one different from the UV5r?
Hello
I wonder which radio is better.
The BF UV82HX (8W) or BF GT-3TP Mark 3 (8W)
I want to get a good talk range and clear voice.

Hi, also like to use it as a scanner, will I not find anything either side of 420 to 480? Here is the description of Amazon

Thanks for the review and comparison!
I wonder why they went back to the old display on the gt-3tp?
+nasanction thanks :)
I have no idea, I definitely prefer the dark display
Yea my eye's aren't what they used to be. I really liked the dark display as well. I guess I'll just grab the GT-3 and just not worry about the added power. Thanks again for your review. Probably saved me a bunch of eye strain.
Cheers!
To be honest the extra couple of watts doesnt make that much difference. Cheers :)
Nice one mate..just ordered one for work as work ones are shady...just hoping this one dials into work one ha ha...thanks for that great vid!!!👍👍

hi i have just come back to radio i used to be on CB radio about 15 years ago. so i thought i would give it another go now. i have just bought a Baofeng UV6R RADIO to see how it gos. i also collect old retro radios and listen to SW RADIO ALOT.

Steve.
Hi Steve, you'd be best looking around 440-456mhz there's tonnes of airport frequencies that workers use.
Good luck with your license!
thank you for getting back to me so soon really appreciate it. my baofeng UV6R arrived today still finding my away around it. i have had alot of airport channels on like you have said. would like to listen to some amateur radio too if you could help me out with some frequencies. you make some interesting videos too look forward to watching more.
Hi mate drop me an add on facebook if you can (decription of all my vids)
hi added your video description to my Facebook now.
73s Steve.
The jack and ear plugs don't seat correctly in this radio
You're right. I have no issue in the GT-3 but it doesn't fit properly in the GT-3TP
I have a GT-3TP mark III and no issues with devices fitting into the jacks.
YES! GT-3TP Looks better!
NnC I agree! Cheers.
+NnC whats the difference , only display and output , cheers ...
Yeah just the display and output
Hello my friend, what an excellent video, I'm about to buy my first radios, I'm not going to program anything, I just want to talk, which I recommend between
UV-82
GT-3 mark2
GT-3TP
GT-5
I already thank you and I apologize for my bad English
UV-82! :)
I didn't think they had electricity up north?
listen closely
i'm so glad you mentioned 2 things im also noticing and turns out you were good in helping these same 2 issues make better sense on my end
You See,, i Have exactly both Radios you do
#1 i hate the GT3TPIII Screen because the contrast is inferior to the older GT3 Hands Down,
#2 and biggest point of all, //this GT3TP Receive and TX are Again inferior to the My Older GT3, & good thing i noticed because iv had the GT3 Up for Sale thinking the TP111 Would be replacing it? but its the other way Around?
So im so disappointed,
Also discovered the GT3TPIII IS a Whooping 20Hz Off on both TX And RX Which explains it not Receiving & not hitting repeaters? :/
it took 6 hours of trouble Shooting
finally i tuned both Radios to Simplex 444.4000, and neither radio would talk to each other even With All 1-to-40 Menu items Set Exactly the Same on Both GT3 And GT3TP,
though what gave my hint away to me was i heard fine scratching of voice bleed over and thought to myself
hey lets start bumping the Tuning steps Up 5 Steps at a time 5Hz on one and then the other
Well i never had any question on the older GT3 Because it was hitting 25 Repeaters at just 1 watt Yet out of that Same 25
the Newer GT3TPIII Was Only And Barily Hitting 4 of the Same 25 uploaded Chirp image file, :/ wasn't looking to good at this Point it was quickly looking bad for the Newer MK111
Ok So back to what happened
So as i spoke into my Older GT3 On Simplex 444.000 while also slowly Started Bumping Up 5hz Receiving of GT3TPIII
and At 444.005 i started hearing my older GT3 Bump again 444.010 i heard more clearly and louder, Then 444.415 Louder //=More clearly and Finally 444.420 was perfect BINGO..IT Was hearing dead ON?
So Just to be sure i went past to 444.025 BUT NOP It Was 444.420 was the Magic Spot While the Old GT3 Was On the Actual Correct Frequency Of 444.000
and both Radio Voice Cross talk back and Forth Perfectly,
So the GT3TP MKIII Is a Whooping 20Hz Off Frequency on Both TX And RX :/ :(
So obviously the GT3TPIII Is Garbage and its to late to return because iv been so busy i never had enough play time to trouble shoot this and actually get to the real bottom of it untill just Today? :/ I'm so disappointed :/
That Said,,
PLEASE if anyone else has this same exact issue
and gets the time to Test following my Directions here the Exact way I Did,
PLEASE Share back the way i Shared this find with You?
my older GT3 Outperforming whats suppose to be an Upgrade GT3TP IS SH1T :-
So Ringway Manchester, PLEASE Program yours VFO with the Same frequencys and See if you get the same outcome?
and or if yours will even communicate on the same Frequency?
They only Talk Perfectly between old and new WHEN
I Program New GT3TPIII At 444.4020 And Old GT3 At 444.000..Only At this Point they Both Cross talk Perfectly :/
and So No wonder My New GT3TPIII Wont hit repeaters :/
it Sux,
C,P,
BAOFENG GT-3 + BAOFENG GT-3TP III MY REPLY TO REVIEW UPDATE ******
WELL
I Tried Everything To Fix but Nothing Solved with The GT-3TP III
ITS TOTAL GARBAGE //= INFERIOR THE OLD GT-3
So My Loss
I Sold it Today for $20 So i lost $30 Only 2 Weeks Old, :/
And So i Took My Old MINT GT-3 Off the Action Market and Keeping It Instead
I Can See the higher quality Screen much much better on The GT-3
And It HITS 20 REPEATERS WHERE THE GT-3TP MK III ONLY HIT 4 OUT OF THAT SAME 20 REPEATERS :/
SO RX AND TX BOTH FAR SUPERIOR ON OUR OLDER GT-3 HANDS DOWN,
SO IF YOU GUYS DISCOVER THE SAME
THEN PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AS US CUSTOMERS NEED TO STICK TOGETHER,
SO THE SAINSONIC COMPANY MOVES PAST THEIR FAILURE MODELS INSTEAD OF CONTINUED STICKING US CUSTOMERS WITH THEM TILL THEY'V UNLOADED THEIR INTIRE STOCK OF THESE JUNKY VERSIONS?
AND START SOONER PRODUCING LESS MODELS AND MORE FOCUS ON QUALITY CONTROL,
ALSO PLEASE THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE FINDING THE SAME THING AS I HAVE
PLEASE POST HERE OR EMAIL MESSAGE ME
SO I KNOW WHETHER ITS JUST A COUPLE RARE LEMONS?
OR WHETHER ITS TRULY GT-3 ROCK SOLID AND GT-3TP MARK III FAILED MODEL?
8 WATTS DON'T MEAN SH1T IF YOUR TX AND RX IS 20HZ OFF FREQUENCY YOU CAN'T HIT THE SIDE OF A BARN REPEATER WISE,
AND THEN THERE'S
ALSO FACT OF THE BETTER AND MORE VISABLE LCD SCREEN ON THE GT-3
AGAIN PLEASE LET ME KNOW GUYS? DO SHARE?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE :-)
