You are teaching using an actual toposheet. This helps in visualizing. Just explaining in words without pointing it out on an actual toposheet won't help. Hats off to you sir for making this seemingly difficult concept into an easy one.

Sir please can you clear my doubt. Sir in direct distance should we put the 0 mark of the scale on the end of a settlement or at the middle of the settlement?
Sir here 1 thing that you need to correct is while measuring direct distance we need to make a circle ⭕ on the settlements which we are finding the distance and taking a point in the centre of the circle made on the settlements then from the centre we need to measure it..
That's the theoretical way. But on the map, which you are provided with in the exam, you will be asked not to write anything on map (even with pencil). Because they reuse that map next year or during boards. So I told you the practical way, where there is no need to mark anything.
