  • In this video, I fished the 2022 herring spawn in San Francisco. I used a sabiki rig and a fishing rod instead of a cast net which was a lot of fun!

    I fished that pier a few weeks ago. Cops walked down the pier and waved at people. No problems. Got 1/3 bucket, then ran over to Agua Vista and netted the rest of the bucket. Fun day!

    Brah I like ur channel and you seem like good kid down where I’m at we have the lamest big mouth ritch kids that only want to catch a shark and don’t really appreciate or respect animals they are catching just by the way you took the time to go after the herring shows that you love to fish and you do it with what you have not a show off but you have pride and respect for fishing you are doing it the hard and that makes pros

    What lures/ jig heads would you recommend for striped bass? They're going to run through the bay soon!!! Also great video!

      Swim baits!!

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching! I like 1/2 - 1 oz depending on the depth. Swimbaits or bucktails are the way to go in the bay, the Madame Lure 3.5" swimbait is my favorite. Spoons work as well. The striper bite is already picking up, good luck!

    What months out of the year can you catch them there and what is the limit?

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! They usually show up in the bay from December-February but can be very unpredictable. Limit is 10 gallons per day

    What type of rod/reel are using and what size sabiki rig?

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! I used an ultralight uglystik gx2 but rod and reel doesn't really matter for baitfish. Sabiki rig was size 10

    How many hooks on the sabiki rig allowed? Do the dfg enforce it?

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! Only 3 hooks per line are allowed in SF Bay. The rule is not heavily enforced

    • @carlcalvin1479
      @carlcalvin1479 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sf_angler not heavily enforced but why use 4,5,or6 when all you have to do is dip 3 hooks back down again and hook up. Not worth getting in trouble using more. Plus more chances of snagging.

    • @sf_angler

      The herring are gone from this location unfortunately. There was a spawn last week at candlestick park so there could possibly be another spawn somewhere. Usually herring spawn in December and January in the SF Bay

      @carlcalvin1479 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are plenty of herring making it back to the ocean. Commercial fishing is what is depleting the fish. So I take it you never buy wild caught fish. Lol

    Not to be a buzzkill, but the hook limit for the SF bay is 3 hooks. Using a 6 hooks in the bay is considered illegal poaching.
