    Nice one John. Personally I ride mostly for sheer enjoyment & the happiness I get out of it. Even on my commute to work I find myself singing to whatever tune is playing in my ear or laughing at some podcast or audiobook- something that wouldn’t happen driving a car listening to the same. I mostly ride solo and am always planning some new long ride. Keep up the good work, I’m enjoying your series 👍

      Awesome! Commuting is a huge reason lots of us ride. And like you said. Doing things like the audiobook that you wouldn’t do
      In a car.

      why can't you listen to a podcast or a audiobook in a car? I tend to use those to help the tedium of driving and less on a bike.

    I started riding for PT to rebuild my knee strength and help with some chronic lower back issues. What started out being just short trips around town to run my errands has turned into a huge part of my daily routine. The mental health aspects didn’t even cross my mind when purchasing my bike… everyone around me tells me that not only do I look healthier physically (gained about 6 lbs so far which is huge for me) but I also look happier, which I am.

    • @johnmanuel7561

      Exactly. The mental health aspects are amazing. Great stress releaser!

    Thanks for sharing, I love your channel! For all the reasons you mentioned, I ride too. They say "the path is the goal". Whenever I sit behind the wheel of the car, in a train/plane etc, I regret it one way or another. But never a bikeride. This is by far my favourite way to reach places and especially, if I want to become productive at my destination. Going to work by bike - that makes it effortless, easy, positive, like being fully charged. Btw a pure bike vacation like that is totally on my list!

    My main motivation is to breath fresh air and enjoy nature and clear my mind. Cycling is great exercise for body and soul - I always feel uplifted after a ride. Love your videos!

    Great video, John! I agree with all your insights. I have also come to understand that cycling, at least for me, is a most beautiful and effective form mindful meditation. When I'm riding my bike, my attention is totally in the here and now. The sounds, the sights, the scents, the rhythm of my pedalling all help me to stay calm, focused, and in the present. Kind regards, your cycling friend, Luigi

    Love these videos. Riding my bicycle is a very good place to get my serious thinking done without focusing on the negatives of life. I love to be outdoors. I started riding 66 years ago when I was 10 and got a paper route. I saw your 100 mile ride and heard you say you had only been riding for 4 months. Wow, and with a 7 hour time. You are athletic and this is a great way to keep that oxygen flowing to your brain. I will see you out on the road.

    Spot on with the vid. I started because my son wanted me to ride with him and I had no bike so I bought a MTB. Then 4months later I liked riding so much I got the road bike. Exploring spots I haven’t seen in the car! So many things to see and do. Also the peace within yourself you find while riding

    Great topic, John. Love the authenticity in your voice as you enumerate so many good reasons to ride. You listed my reasons. Now I’m having the internal debate: adventure vs fitness vs competing against myself. Thanks John.

    I ride for the feeling of freedom it gives me and to push the reset button on any stress or concerns I may have. Each ride, as you say, is an adventure. It's also good exercise, especially trying to beat my best times on a particular route. By the way, the Canary Islands look a lot like California. Is it dry or humid there? How's the food?

    • @johnmanuel7561
      @johnmanuel7561  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! A reset button for sure! And its dry, not that humid, at least not the days Ive been there.

    Great video, John. I've spent most of my life living and working in several countries all around the world, but have never made it to the Canary Islands. Looks like cycling there would be an amazing riding experience. And speaking of the riding experience, how does the Emonda compare to your Domane, especially for long rides and rougher roads or trails?

    • @johnmanuel7561

    Hey John, agreed with your reasons. Adding to this, I really just prefer outdoor exercise and with COVID and working from home at the moment, I really need to just get out of the house. On another note, which app are you using for nav on your Apple Watch? I currently use Komoot which is great, but find it a pain to keep squinting at my watch for directions. Planning to get an Elemnt Bolt v2 to take over that duty. Not a fan of using my iPhone on the handlebars.

    • @johnmanuel7561
      @johnmanuel7561  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the current pandemic has limited outdoor exposure and cycling is a great way to still be able to get outdoors. I was just using the regular maps app and using the driving routes. I was just freelancing a bit and didn’t have a route I was riding. Just testing out the bike in different settings.
