    Hey man the fact that you continue going to see if you could get it to look as perfect as possible... while maintaining that it's an imperfect cheap fix, that's what sold me on this video. You earned a subscription!

    I purchased this PDR kit not really expecting much, but given a $1100 quote to remove a golf ball sized dent and a few scratches, I thought it was worth risking $40. The golf ball sized dent is 80% better, and I am confident I can remove the remaining depression. I was skeptical that the hot glue was strong enough, but is surely was. Slowing pumping the lever and holding it for a few seconds seems to help. Tip on removing the glue from the pieces that adhere to the dent: use a heat gun to re-melt them and a putty knife to scrape off the glue; it's a lot easier then trying to remove the hardened glue. Also, the glue gun that comes with the kit must be "cocked" i.e. the orange plastic piece at the rear of the "gun" moved back before inserting the glue stick; otherwise the glue stick will not advance with trigger pulls; which reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where Jerry's fear of riding a horse leads him to ask for the one named "Gluestick". Merry Christmas.

    After watching one of the demo videos, it appears that on the last try (when it didn't 'pop') you should have screwed the center knob in. From what I can see, that knob isn't there just to make the thing look pretty, it picks up the slack on the longer stemmed pads.

    The newer models seem to be more pliable in cars these days. I’ve bought one of these kits hoping it will work on a 26 year old Isuzu. But I think the steel grade is thicker. It has a few small dents on the hood where a timber load slid forward a couple of years ago.

    spring for a better kit with a slide hammer and some behind the panel tools. the mini-lifter is the wrong tool for this particular job, you could get it perfect with some lever tools behind the interior door panel to push it out from inside, and a line board so you can see what your doing. PDR is easy, but time consuming for a quality repair. That's the main thing you are paying for when you take it to a pro... their time.

    • @jade8910
      @jade8910 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Their time is the problem. I have a decent dent in the back of my car (Pontiac Vibe) from my husband backing up into a pickup's bumper. Watching these professional dent removals and its ridiculous how much time they take. This ding shown would take probably 3 hours, and that's wayyy too much time. I'm happy with the review's results, and shows there's no excuse for a several hour process.

    get some 91% cheap rubbing alcohol, clean the area first, then just a dab on the plastic razor or scrapper will dissolve the glove instantly, save that scrapping off. You absolutely can get it perfect, use smaller tabs as you go, clean glue pull, alcohol off glue and keep going, if dent goes above flat then use the plastic tap down tool and hammer that comes with and gently tab down in place.

      The kit instructions advise to use a "marking pen" to outline the dent. Not sure what a "marking pen' is but some nail polish borrowed from my wife should work also. The instructions emphasize properly cleaning the area with alcohol before using the puller. I haven't tried mine yet, but if it works, it will be a great tool to have on hand because so many people drive away after they have dented your car. It is shameful, but a sign of our times.

    I was doing paintless 30 years ago! It was actually an old technique used by Mercedes in the 1930s for assembly line damage...BEFORE the car was painted. I helped reinvent the process. I got out of it only a few years and after getting established. I already had some collage and the beginnings of a totally different career to go to. The paintless business, 30 years ago, was dirty and cut throat. Lots of assholes(hey, Cap'n Kirk) and lots of drugs and lots of screwing your best friend over just to make that cheddar. Some good people too(hey again Cap'n Kirk) but very few, and I didn't have to fight it to make a life, so, I didn't.
    Ok, that said, the main thing to learn about paintless is HOW TO SEE the dents. It takes months of staring at auto body in all lighting situations to train your eyes to SEE the dent AND to already know what the dent will look like from 45deg and 90deg from where ever your starting. What makes a good paintless tech isn't skill so much as his attention to detail. If he's doing it right he'll spend the time to work it from 3 or even 4 directions. There is no such thing as improvement, either you get it out or there is still a dent there. If you think it's so small you "wont notice it as much", just wait till you DO notice it... and then can't stop noticing it. Now, the junkier a car is relative, and has more to do with how "small" a dent is than the size of a dent. However, IRL, if you bothered to do anything at all about this dent, then your probably wasting your time with gimmicks like this. I'll guarantee you this will not fix 99% of dents and will probably cause one the thing that catches the eye more at a distance, the ripple.
    The ripple is what the paintless guys avoid at all cost, and it's what your paying him for. All dents can be turned into a ripple really easy. Up close it will look like you fixed the dent. From a different angle it will be MORE noticeable and it's really difficult to clean it up. I always charged double when someone brought me a car that it was obviouse they had attempted fixing it themselves. And triple when I could see the dent was self inflicted in an atempet to get the insurance money. LOL It happened so many times. The customer figured since there was only one dent in the hood(oddly shapped like a golf ball in a sock) it wouldn't cost very much. Dumbass, we charge by the panel not the dent. If not hail damage would estimate out at $50000 for a deck lid LOL.
    I have no idea why I watched this or why I commented. I guess I miss the paintless life . I was really good at it and I miss the friends I made chasing hail storms, driving through the night to be the first on site, and set up shop. Mostly I miss the praise of the customers. I don't deal with people in my work and that daily reinforcement that I had done a good job was addictive. Anyway, I guess I'm here to say beware of these toys, made in China, sold to people not paying attention, and used by individuals who really hate their car, lol. But I learned 30 years ago, ya can't tell nobody nothin SO,...have a dentless day my friends, lol.

    Did u experience trouble removing glue from the tabs? Man, I sure did. If so did u have a secret, rubbing alcohol works on the dented surface but not the tabs.

    • @caryverhalen
      @caryverhalen ปีที่แล้ว

      After reading one of the comments I got a good suggestion to use a heat gun to heat up the tab and then remove the glue when it's warm that makes total sense otherwise it's impossible to get that glue off

    i'd actually have tried manipulating that little doohickey by hand before using the puller ... since you'd get way more control (?)

    • @roberttill3787
      @roberttill3787 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You dont apply great force with that type of puller, you apply enough pressure for the dent to move slightly, then you apply another pull, lightly again. Its no good applying a heavy straight one pull with this tool. In between pulls the high spots need knocking down around the dent with a knock down tool. It is not a job to hurry. This type of tool is for small "hail" type dents, not large damage.

  • @Savage1776_
    @Savage1776_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah I tried this yesterday first off the glue never solidified even after 10 minutes it just stayed mushy. Not only did my dent puller tab pop right off and did absolutely nothing but now I got glue stuck inside of the dent that won't come off

  • @ryanthomas3554

      It didn't scuff my paint, Ryan. Sometimes the glue is a little stubborn, but if you hit it with a small spray of rubbing alcohol, it comes right off.

    Please, please, tell me: if the PDR sticks could be used the same way as hot glue sticks, in "ordinary" hot glue guns (11 mm)? Can I make ornaments, drops... and all other shapes, like with ordinary hot glue stics and guns? I'm asking because I have probem finding ordinary sticks in black color, so I was thinking maybe I could use PDR sticks...

    • @wilson3707able

      Blaženka Marušić yes you can. They work the same as the hot glue sticks, but these are much stronger. That being said, they are not meant to hold things together forever like crazy glue. But for arts and craft they can do the job better that what you are using.

    Bought the kit and tried on a BMW E36. Well, the black glue stick is worthless, won't stick to the plastic tab. The yellow colored is the one to use. The car's surface should be clean but do not put too much effort in that, the glue sticks to the car like crazy, its the plastic tab that will release the glue fast. I tried cleaning the plastic tabs, not much success. It just comes off too easy. The car is a different matter, you do need to use a lot of alcohol to get it off. If the tabs would hold the glue, it could be really good, as it is its mediocre. Its ok for a newer or Asian car, on the old BMW, it was just not strong enough to pull the small dents. The larger dents are ok to pull, the quarter size small dings will not dissapear, but I admit they get smaller. Again the plastic tabs are letting go of the glue is the issue.

  • @everettengineers4603

    Just a warning.. you're pulling too hard and not fast enough. The purpose is to gently and repeatedly work the dent out (very gently and quickly pull the handle many times), not just pull hard until it pops off.

    • @Ozninjaguy
      @Ozninjaguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Will this work on a "repainted" surface? Or it will damage the paint in this case?

    • @ElGuero227
      @ElGuero227 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      typically, resprayed panels have a weaker bond, so its possible to do the repair, there is just a higher risk of damage to the paint

    • @fakiirification
      @fakiirification 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      if its been resprayed or if there is an open chip in the damage, its better to push from the back side of the panel or you might rip paint off with the glue. of course if you have an open chip, your probably planning to touch up anyway once the dent is gone, so try it and see what happens.

    • @roberttill3787
      @roberttill3787 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trick to minimise paint damage is to warm the panel with a heat gun just before gluing the pad on. This softens the paint slightly and helps the paint to bend during the pull. Do not overheat the panel.

    • @scottlanier5133
      @scottlanier5133 3 ปีที่แล้ว
