I must say, as a severely vision impaired person (Technically legally blind) I am SOOO thankful that you explain everything so well verbally as you're showing it on the video. Helps me not have to go "Wait, what was that? It wasn't large enough on the screen for me to see!" also, you're very amusing even though you're doing a wonderful job explaining everything at the same time, made the video fun to watch just as it was informative.
Very informative it's all about honesty, lots of people out there will not go through it like you did and it was quite amusing to see you do those things as if nobody was watching and I will recommend anyone to watch this video real homemade
Nancy, as usual, a greatly informative instruction video! You rock! I just purchased my first set of Beadsmith Jump Ring Coil Cutting Pliers and my very first jeweler's saw. I figure it would be easier and less expensive than purchasing new flush cutters every other month. I can't seem to find the perfect flush cutter. I hope this works and eventually, I hope to purchase that bedazzling Koil Kutter you use! This is going to be great fun! Thanks, gal!
Aluminum knitting needles work very well. You can drill a pilot hole through whatever you are improvising with so the end wire doesn't cut you. A battery or electric drill will work too. It's the easiest portion of the making...cutting cleanly without angled ends is the hardest. Also, a rock tumbler will help remove burrs from cutting.
Thanks for another awesome video and the names of the three lazy woman tools! I have so much trouble getting nice flush ends. These tools save a lot of time.
Vaše videa jsou senzační, nerozumím Vám ani slovo (neumím anglicky) ale to mi vůbec nevadí...máte spoustů nápadů, postupů a hlavně nástroje, které u nás moc nejsou :)) jste moc šikovná :) Jarka (česká republika)
Hey, I didn't reduce the hammering sounds - But, I had the good sense to hire a very smart producer - Lisa! Thank you so much for watching my multiple personalities at work. Glad you're a regular! Take care. Nancy
What a fun and informative video! I also have a big fuzzy white and gray tool, which sometimes eats the leaves of my houseplants and makes himself sick. I look forward to more of your vids.
It's a challenge but hey, anything worth doing in life holds it's own set of challenges! But yea, I mostly do chain maille and am about to expand into other types of jewelry making. Was a 3D artist before my accident but hey, I've found working with metals so addicting I think it's a good substitute!
I love your tutorials, you always show us various different techniques and ways to achieve the end result and you're so lovely and entertaining! Ps I totally agree with Dorothy Hubbard - your gorgeous ring was pleasantly distracting! ;)
Nancy, you are too funny. Didn't know there was a "koil kutter" out there. I've always slaved away at sawing. This old dog learned a valuable new trick.
I love you! I LOLed several times AND the video was instructional, and clear to see what you are doing! Excellent! Many thanks! I am definitely checking out your other videos and subscribing!
Hi Multi, Thanks, as usual. Pretty funny about the ring blinding you to the video. No tutorials on that ring. Maybe later down the road. Probably have directions in my upcoming book (over a year from now). Thanks again. N
Nancy, thank you for always having a very informative tutorals. I really like the taping of the dowel which I will surely try. I had to watch the video twice because I could not think about what you was saying because I eyes was on the awesome ring and your necklace! Just beautiful. Will you or do you have a tutorial about that rings you are wearing. Thanks again for sharing and I just love your information!!!!!!
Warrior-on Catalyst and good luck in your new foray. I think they put something on the metal to addict us and then we must buy tools to support our habit. Beware and have fun. Nancy
Nancy, You crack my friend and I up. I am subscribed to your channel. We consider you SENSIBLE using your power tool for cutting jump rings. What was the name of that cutting kit... please please pretty, please, with sugar on top. Lol . From your zany friends in South Australia.
Just put the mandel in the chuck and insert the end of the wire into the chuck in the space between the jaws and the mandrel. No need to clamp it in. I also use a chuck in a power screwdriver. It turns at a slower safer speed.
That was awesome. You're a hoot! And informative. I had to know how other people make Jump rings. I've been manually winding wire on different size knitting needles and cutting them with a toenail cutter for a couple years now. Are you laughing yet? Thought so. LOL btw love your cat in the back there. We got 5 between hubby, me and my mom. Clicking subscribe now!
Thank you so much for the great comment. Making jewelry must be very challenging, with limited sight, and I applaud you for following your passion. I knew there was a reason that I was a such a big lip flapper! Thanks again Catalyst! Take care and enjoy the adventure. N
Hi Nancy I really love your videos :). I've learned a lot from you. I'll be greatly appreciated if you can answer my question. I'm currently learning to become a Bench Jeweler one day and I really love it. I would like to get certified as a bench jeweler but don't know how. Do I need to take a test to get certified?
LOVE that anvil!! I'm after something exactly like it (struggling here in Australia to find). Where did you purchase it from??? If you don't mind my asking. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for when I choose one? Thanks in advance.
I'm looking to make 14 gauge 25 mm jump rings. I'm assuming most kits won't go that big so I will have to do a dowel and drill and hand saw/Dremel them. Am I correct in my thinking?
Just trying to get some sort of advanced Girl Scout badge. I'm almost there - just need 3,000 more Karmic points. Hope you are busy crafting up a storm. Take care Numero Uno. Nancy
Come here and let me give you a big smooch! Thanks for the lovely feedback. Gotta love that Koil Kutter - reasonably priced and so EASY. Kiss Kiss. Nancy
The white and black fuzzy tool is used for buffing the chairs in my studio. It can also be used to shred paper and carpet my floor with a plethora of soft, white fur. It's also useful for entertainment. Thanks for noticing WeeWeeLooLou, she's a ham. Take care. Nancy
Nancy Hamilton ahhh ha ha ha. You’re right on lovely kookie lady. So refreshing to have you tell it like it is. Love all your whimsical remarks that are always so true. Don’t know which I like best - laughing or learning. Oh yeah - BOTH🤪‼️
Hi LittleCherryHill, I purchased my anvil (15lb) from Harbor Freight. I don't know if they ship to Australia. Since it was cheap, it is made from cast iron (as opposed to cast steel) and had to be refinished. It also dents easily. I'd recommend steel - in retrospect. Check Farrier suppliers, old barns, Stockman's suppliers, Clark horseshoes has some smaller anvils but not prices - you need to email them. Check flea markets, metal junkyards, ask around. more on next post.
You should be able to take that plate with the long slit in it off and lay it in the flat area on your blade to see if the blade sits exactly in the middle that way you don't have to guess
Cont. Keep in mind what you are using it for. Actually, a square of good steel, like a railroad tie or a steel part off a car's underside - like the frame, can be cleaned up and/or cut by a metal shop. Clamp in a big vise. You want steel, if possible. Stay away from those little jeweler's anvils - I find them wobbly and worthless - especially the brass ones. Get at least a 10lb. anvil for stability and mobility. Some of the ferriers anvils are heavy! Good luck and Take care, Nancy
Thank you for this tutorial! It was very useful and thorough. It took me a moment to notice the kitty sleeping on the desk behind you. So cute! :) Do you ever have any problems with them jumping on or getting into anything dangerous? I'm always worried about my cats picking up a random shard of wire or broken saw blade in their paws.
I'm re watching just to reinforce the fact that you make jump rings on a drill too...I always feel as if I'm doing something wrong when I tell people. Lol...I've always been a bad influence with my Big Girls Jump Rings lol!
Me too. But, in 15 years it hasn't happened. I try to keep my floor clean and my cat in only two areas - the main desk corner and her chair. She's happy - as long as I'm there AND she can sneak into a video. When she tries to go elsewhere, she is encouraged with strong jeweler's arms to avoid that area. Then, I swoop in with the distraction - TREATS - and she forgets all about her foolish idea. Thanks for writing. Have a purry day.
Hi VC, I would love to see a picture of your system. Also, how you use the ring clamp. Could you email me a picture? Thanks, as always, for the kind words. Lou Loo, the sleeping cat, says hello too. She was recovering from a treat binge and sleeping it off. Thanks again. N
Hi VC, can you send images via PM? I'm such a non-geek.You could also email me- that I understand. I'll let you decide as your the one being put upon. Thanks so much. I'm very curious to see your ideas! Nancy

Ive seen a few people having problems with the flex shaft machine. Seemed to work fine for you. Thanks Nancy.Using knitting needles here.
Thank you for your clever and money saving tutorials.
Thank you Nancy, I love your sense of humor. Nice to see different ways to do it.
Nanc! Great to see ya again. I think the tool intro is a good idea. Good girl with the safety reminders, too. Thanks!

You made my day, you are so funny and fun to watch. I ran across your video by accident, so glad I did.
Me too. I was looking for an oval j/r video and they threw your one at me. What a nice, funny manner you have. Thanks.
This was the best tutorial on making Jump Rings! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for another awesome video and the names of the three lazy woman tools! I have so much trouble getting nice flush ends. These tools save a lot of time.
Thank you Nancy. I always enjoy your videos, and it's nice to know that you make some mistakes occasionally too.

Could you show a video on torching the jump rings and picketing them?
Since this video was made, the Koil Kutter has had the saw cover upgraded from PVC to machined aluminium. Vast improvement.

i like your way thank you for the tutorial
They call the hexagonal end a hex bit, I believe
Now I know how to use the cutting doo- hickey without chopping off my hand! :)
You are so fun to watch :)
Where did you get your mandrals

Side sided= "hexagonal"; hope that helps😉

What do you mean by putting the jump rings in a pickle jar?
Holy cow... if that a RING or a boulder on your finger? How can you function with that thing?!!?
Hi VC, I would love to see a picture of your system. Also, how you use the ring clamp. Could you email me a picture? Thanks, as always, for the kind words. Lou Loo, the sleeping cat, says hello too. She was recovering from a treat binge and sleeping it off. Thanks again. N
What gage wire is best to make jump rings?
I've seen anywhere from 10-18 but it can probably vary even more
A lot of it depends on the size mandrel you use as well as the chain pattern.
is there a cute puppy/cat sleeping on the back ? lmao
Hi VC, can you send images via PM? I'm such a non-geek.You could also email me- that I understand. I'll let you decide as your the one being put upon. Thanks so much. I'm very curious to see your ideas! Nancy
"Hexagonal" - 6 sides. ; ) X Dave.
6 sided is Hexagon
'i'm a lazzee woman!' 😄
you are lovely lazy wonderfull lady . and i like your show.
cool beans.....now go pet the kitty....
Torch them and then throw them in a pickle?!?! WTF?
Pickle is the liquid used to clean off the grime from your metal. You torch the rings to make them pliable again since working the metal stiffens it.
