Directors are definitely MORE IMPORTANT than actors. The reason why people prefer watching interviews of actors is because they associate them with that stereotypical glamourous movie star lifestyle.
Yes, people would know who the directors were if Stephen Colbert would put them on his show. Obscurity didn't stop him on his old show. He had a segment called "Better Know A District" where he interviewed Congresspeople from around the United States. Does he think his audience on the channel with a show about puppets making crank calls was smarter than his audience on CBS? The closing song on The Colbert Report was largely sung by pundits that he made known by interviewing them on his show!
Rotten Tomatoes Score: Lady Bird 100% Justice League 34% One cost less than $5million and the other one cost more than $200million. All the money in the world can't make a movie great.
I like that you're drawing universal conclusions from very specific examples. To add to your expert thesis, I'd say there's an "uncanny valley" near the middle because Dragonball Evolution cost $30 mil and it's better than both these films.
She is so bright, intelligent and hearing her is a pleasure, her laugh is contagious and so true. my kind of person plus a great professional. Congrats Greta, keep succeeding!
Hm 🤔 well, I don’t know about the other people on this thread who junk it’s unacceptable to comment on a celebrity, but I think that’s a little dramatic. I’m a total dork and I relate a lot to Greta *a lot* except I’m not a famous movie director. If I were ever interviewed on a late show, that would be me in this video 8/10, but I’d also probably snort when I laugh 😂.
So proud of my St. Francis sister! Can't wait to see the movie, Greta!! And thank you Stephen for the interview with a female director and a new one at that. We need more interviews like this!
Charlotte also I too despise Affleck he ruined Batman by getting rid of Bryan Cranston who was supposed to be Lex Luther with someone else that failed at the role
Well, that's why it was a good school. Franciscan Catholic, has cool religious people, versus your typical stuck up harsh nuns at some of the others types of schools. I went to a Franciscan Catholic college (I'm not religious, but I'm spiritual, and the school gave me more scholarships than others), and our friars were badass people. Some classes were taught by friars and nuns, but most were taught by normal professors. Our president was a nun and she was really badass too. We had a streaker that ran through our dining hall (we only had one dining hall on campus) and our president didn't angry, she just laughed along with all of us. Those four years were some of the best years and religion was never once shoved down my throat. It was more about "being a good person" and "how to speak to people who think differently than you do"
oh god i love her! look at her! she's just completely herself and she's just lovely!!! :) can't freaking wait to see this movie! and of course, i have to wait til freaking April next year because every movie comes so late to Denmark ;( hate it!!! saoirse ronan and greta gerwig - two legends and true inspirational ladies for sure.
0:51 the keyboard player is playing yardbird suite by Charlie Parker as a joke given the title of the movie... funny, except that no one in the audience probably got it.
During John Baptiste band intro to Greta Gerwig, the organ plays the melody of "yardbird suite" written and played by Charlie "bird" Parker. Very sneaky reference 0:53
I mean, I would probably rate her nervousness 4 out of 10, but I haven't done a full review of the published literature and will gladly take into account all further comments.
Because Afleck is overrated. I have no interest in him or his mediocre professional output. I get a real jerk vibe from him too. She, on the other hand, has produced quality work and is charming besides. But bigger stars get more time because they are supposed to equal bigger ratings. It's not a fair world.
This woman is awesome! She will be the next big thing in films. I hope she continues on the same path as she has started on, or does something totally different, anyway she will be great. I know this to be true. Lets wish her all the best with a lot of likes on this comment!
Most traditional Hollywood movies have a lead character with a clear goal, this film doesn't follow that format. While a main character may have one main goal in the film, Christine, while surviving her life as a senior high school student has many goals. A main character may have the goal of winning over the love of their life, Christine chases her love, loses her love, and chases again. A main character may have the goal of getting the staring role in a play, Christine tries out for the play but has other interests too. A main character may have the goal of winning over her family, Christine has won over some of her family while the others she debates if she even wants their love. In the end, Christine's main goal was stated at the beginning - to just survive her senior year of high school and all the many sub-goals that come along with it as she find herself. I won't say this is "coming of age" because that implies a character has a story that takes place over multiple years. This is just one year. But you don't really need to label the movie because it's all about a character trying to find her own label.
I wish there were more directors on talk shows. They're just as or even more important than the actors.
There should also be screenwriters.
Yea, I agree film is a director's medium
:)

Definitely
I love her so much. She's so humble and lovely.
She actually is what that waif, Kristen Stewart, pretends to be. Truly humble, thoughtful and anxious about attention.
> that waif
hahahah
When I was 14 actually did jump out of my mom’s car while she was driving just to get away from her so that part made me crack a smile.
Out loud: An empowered women getting time on a talk show for her positive work.
(Internally:Greta Gerwig is heart-meltingly beautiful)
Do you always speak in newspaper-headlines to yourself when alone on youtube?
Empowered Woman Gets (Time On) Talk Show.
I like my title better.
maniy77 honestly !! And the fact that she's a female director getting the credit she deserves us just awesome:D
+Claudia Lyzette pretty much like all directors do.

One cost less than $5million and the other one cost more than $200million. All the money in the world can't make a movie great.
Who ever said more money means better?!
People go to see famous actors, explosions and action not dramas. And explosions cost more.
Hollywood does not need movies to be great, as long as it brings in the money from mindless people, it can get -97% on RT and nobody cares.
bargh70 unfortunately so. Bah cynicism is setting in
I like that you're drawing universal conclusions from very specific examples. To add to your expert thesis, I'd say there's an "uncanny valley" near the middle because Dragonball Evolution cost $30 mil and it's better than both these films.
Rotten Tomatoes isn’t the most accurate review website
She is a ray of sunshine in this
@@caseynorth6080 lmao
She is so bright, intelligent and hearing her is a pleasure, her laugh is contagious and so true. my kind of person plus a great professional. Congrats Greta, keep succeeding!
She's incredibly adorable in this interview.
she's incredibly adorable in all of her interviews :)
I'm here, announcing publicly, my eternal crush for Greta Gerwig. Thank you.
FUCK OFF!
Accomplished actor and director ... and you reduce her to your sexual desire for her. Misogyny in action.
Chris Martin People aren't aloud to crush on celebrities now?
Hm 🤔 well, I don’t know about the other people on this thread who junk it’s unacceptable to comment on a celebrity, but I think that’s a little dramatic. Agreed!
She's so sweet and cute and awkward is she even real?
Madison Waycaster kind of the definition of real
She’s putting it on so goobers like you will eat it up
Actors are always performing. Especially when it comes to promotional appearances
@@elizabethsmith9624 🙄
Lady Bird is seriously the best movie of the year, and I can’t believe it is her first directorial piece
Just the way Greta chuckling LOL
So proud of my St. Francis sister! Can't wait to see the movie, Greta!! And thank you Stephen for the interview with a female director and a new one at that. We need more interviews like this!
watch Frances Ha if you haven't
NO.
Yeah. Her acting was very captivating
YES!!!!
And "Damsels in Distress". It's not Noah Baumbach, but it's just as incredible a performance from her.
i was so glad she was being herself in the movie. you can see some similarities here.
She’s been in so many good underrated movies. I love her. I’m glad her movie is doing so well.
Which ones?
i think i just fell in love with her a little bit
Less Affleck and more Gerwig please 😍
Charlotte nah...
What in god's name are you blathering about, Charlotte?!
Are you calling Gerwig a dude or comparing her to Affleck
Charlotte also I too despise Affleck he ruined Batman by getting rid of Bryan Cranston who was supposed to be Lex Luther with someone else that failed at the role
to be ffair Affleck is a good director as well.
Should definitely have more directors on the show, also technically she already co-directed a film ;)
Definitely, directors and screenwriters are the intellectuals of show business, not the actors who've been told they're great too often.
Saoirse Ronan is my 2018 Oscar's best actress. Pls.
She’s got it in the bag. Honestly Lady Bird wins big.
Either Sally Hawkins, Saoirse Ronan, or Frances McDormand I'd say. Saoirse's definitely up there though. All three ladies were incredible this year.
Greta Gerwig is so talented and lovely.
gO AWAY!
Dang, her laugh is both cute and weirdly funny ♥😂
Not today ladies lol
I laughed at that part too.
I
I swear her enunciation just works perfectly for that line. I had to pause the video for a couple seconds...
Damn, she's so beautiful.
To Jordan Peele: 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's unheard-of.
To Greta Gerwig: 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's unheard-of
Siddharth Krishna Both snubbed by Golden Globes for best director - that’s unheard of.
I love moments like the first second of this video where you can see how much Colbert genuinely loves Jon Batiste's music.
Does anyone else think she sounds like Rachel Dratch? Especially with her nervous chuckle haha
I hadn't thought of that but now that you mention it, yeah
Islandboytb her laugh is so goofy. All part of her charm

This is just the beginning of her directorial career. Awesome start. Plus, she is a lovely actress to watch.
She shot to the top in 2023!
her hair is perfect
That was one cute interview :-)
Yes more women directors, and producers! This movie is so on my list to see! Hopefully going to see it today with my girls
What a great interiew. Gerwig's humor and charm really shine through!

That is such great attention to detail... Amazing!
Her giggle! I love it and love her!
totally crushing on her
I love her movie Frances Ha.
What a beautiful soul 😊
Her laugh gives me life.
is there a way to watch a "How I met your dad" pilot?
this right here. this woman will forever be admired
During John Baptiste band intro to Greta Gerwig, the organ plays the melody of "yardbird suite" written and played by Charlie "bird" Parker. Very sneaky reference 0:53
She made me smile. Thank you.
She is so so shy. The way she laughs makes her more endearing.
The occasional cute chuckles, God damn she's precious!
She's adorable and i cant believe she can be so talented with her attention-to-detail works and yet so humble and awkward at the same time. Awwww
6:32 The way that her eyes open wide on "ladies" in "Not today, ladies" is hilarious.
She is so adorable❤️ I’m very proud of her❤️
Lady Bird's mom also old Sheldon's mom
Viewers over 40 will also remember her from a TV show called "Roseanne"
Laurie Metcalfe
Khan Singh Viewers who know ROSEANNE know her. Age got nothing to do with it ☝️
Sheldon's mom?!? Her name is Laurie Metcalf and she belongs to no one! Get an education!
aishx Roseanne's sister!
I love her 😍 what a great movie Lady Bird is! It’s a masterpiece. She’s gifted.
Amazing woman!
Loved her since Maggie's plan.
She was very nervous.
I'd say slightly nervous.
She always seems slightly awkard, but in a cute way
sweiland75: not as much as Ben Affleck. ^^
nah that's just her, people all thinking that nervousness looks the same, it doesn't. Certainly doesn't look like Greta Gerwig.
I mean, I would probably rate her nervousness 4 out of 10, but I haven't done a full review of the published literature and will gladly take into account all further comments.
It's always nice to see humble/ good people do well and be successful in life
I'm so proud of her!
She seems like the sweetest person ever.
How could anyone not like Greta?
As someone living through the donkey show that is 2017 I feel that desire to open the car door sometimes too.
Great personality and very cute!
I love Greta and her films 👌
Why on earth was there only seven minutes plus of this interview, while there was almost twice as much time for the stupid interview with Ben Affleck?
Charles Uwakwe I noticed so far his clips have 0 views. I know it's still early, but this one has 9k, and was uploaded at the same time😂

She has the most infectious laugh
I turned the knob right for this segment.
She’s a great writer.
She is so precious. Lovely to see such a charming and smart woman on a late night show and just really enjoying herself! ❤️
Her laugh is amazing
Stephen is such a clever man. He has the best people on his show. But of course he should also have casters, dressers etc.
Yay Stephen for having Greta on your Show. She's got so much natural raw talent.
That clip was hilarious!! I’ve lost count how many times i’ve wanted to do that.
i wish this interview lasted longer😭

I’ve been to St. Francis! Beautiful school
So incredibly proud of her.

I feel like they need some new focus groups in Vegas! I'd totally watch her on tv
her smile is infectious!

This woman should be World Heritage. 💘
Good Lord she's so adorable!
The people who turned the dial unfavorably must be total goons. This person is charm personified!
I’ve first heard of Greta Gerwig when she was Nancy Tuckerman in Jackie (2016).
