I thought it was a good video, although on the animation at 2:00 it would have been better to have shown a red wire on the (+) side and a black wire on the (-) side just to avoid any confusion!
Handy if you don't know what order to take the terminals off. But was nothing like my Focus Zetec. I had to dismantle half the car to get the battery out lol.
Very helpful thank you. On mine there wasn't a bar over the top of the battery but a little thing at the front that clamps down on a little lip but it was close enough. Cheers
I bought a battery from Halfords yesterday and they wanted £15 to fit it on my Clio, which involved removing 4 x 10 ml nuts that connect the cables, loosening the 2 post clamp bolts and removing the battery securing bolt. Time approximately 15 minutes max. Remember the radio code will most likely be lost once the cables are removed from the battery posts, so make sure you have the radio code and know how to input it or alternatively have a memory gadget such as the Draper one shown in this video.
Yes it’s amazing that Halfords have to charge money to stay in business isn’t it. Really they should offer all their services free. I can remember being charged a lot of money once to have a bulb changed but as the mechanic said, “ it’s not just for changing the bulb, it’s for knowing how to do it” !
Good to see an liberal application of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to the terminals to reduce corrosion over time, but this is not mentioned in the narrative. The key points here are to remove the negative first ..... and never allow any metal contact across the terminals at any time ... like a dropped spanner ! Only 12v but it will weld on !
I’m 1:52 in and I’ve just realized this is actually really complicated and I should have just paid the £15 for them to do it for me I also do have a radio code I bought my car 2nd hand with a new radio in an old car so I’m so confused
They refused to fit my battery claiming they were not a garage and basically because the tray is set back I would have to fit it myself didnt even lift the bonnet to have a look halford cwmbran

the sloth, yeah my sisters battery died. They’d fit the battery for £120 or I can buy it on amazon for £60. I’d do it myself, but my sister has a black box on her car and I don’t want to mess it up :/
@@01imh literally I wouldn't worry if they fitted it... it would be the same as if you did it providing you take the negative off first then then positive and re install positive first then negative you will be fine if the black box was ever to mess up then it's the insurance company's problem to sort out not yours honestly mate I dont think it mess up the black box at all
and you failed to mention the most important safety issue!!! make sure you remove the bung ( transport vent plug ) otherwise the gases produced when charging won't be able to escape and you will end up with an explosion.

Charge battery temporarily with another car and the lead if you have another car if not buy a battery charger from amazon or ebay. Will charge your battery using power from sockets.
Safety. If the terminals are left exposed, there’s a risk of some other metal parts, tools for example, accidentally contacting both terminals at the same time and causing a short circuit which can be dangerous and damaging.
@@georgeberry1959 they are not that skilled when she failed to mention the very important safety issue to remove the transport plug from the vent, otherwise will end up blowing up the battery while driving
@@jonesy1589 if you don't remove the transport plug when fitting a new battery, the excess gas can't escape when charging the battery and therefore you run the risk of blowing up the battery since the vent is blocked. that was what I was on about. it's a basic safety procedure but very important.
Halfords fitted a battery on my uncles car worse job ever the 10mm bolts were loose battery bungs were left inside the battery, what was the point of a poor fitting service, the battery also turned out to be faulty and halfords never honoured the 5 years warranty. Hopeless company.
negative, positive, remove, replace, positive, negative.
start and finish negative is even simpler
