Thank you for posting this. I never attended the Sportatorium and I regret it. Your video has given me a bit more to work on for my videos on South Florida history. Thank you!

I vaguely remember Pembroke Pines in the early 90s when it had a lot more undeveloped areas. I'd love to see any outside footage of the Sportatorium or Pines Blvd from when it was a rural 2-lane road! Some of my favorite bands played there and I wonder why they didn't even start to widen Pines Blvd to 4 lanes until 1985/86 according to wikipedia.

Place was 🔥 in the 80’s. Never be another one like it. Tks for the video. We’d go from Hialeah to the speedway to race or the sporto for concerts. Tons of drama… 🇺🇸 ❤️ 🇨🇺 🦩 305 🎶

Snortatorium was a huge Backyard Metal shed. It had the worst Acoustics any where.
I met more chics and saw so many bands there. One ticket: $6.00, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Outlaws, Grinder Switch, and five more local bands. Started at 12pm ended when it ended. 9 bands. T shirts $3.00 Z’. $25.00, Joints $2.00 Beer, Booze and Women!
This was common back in the 60’s and 70’s. Six bands, $5 - $6 per ticket.
Miami Baseball Stadium was the other venue.
    Gusman Opera house, Beautiful Acoustics.

This guy is dead wrong about the Sunrise Musical Theater "taking over". First off it was much smaller (4.400 to Sport's 16,000). My first concert was there. It was Ozzy and Def Leppard there in 1981. I think they had shows there as early as 1979. My mother would not let us go to the Snortatorium (she thought it unsafe) until Van Halen played in 1984. We could have gone to shows there earlier (around '82-'83) had it not been for Rush and the tear gas incident on the "Moving Pictures" tour of 1981 caused by Neil Peart's plane being late. She read about it in the paper so...

I think the tear gas thing was the tour before moving pictures unless they played there twice on that tour

I saw Rush with UFO at the Sporthole in '79, the tear gas indecent was in '81 and they tear gassed the ppl at the gate not inside the building. Every concert I went to there a fight broke out. When Skynyrd played there with Cams and Brahms in Oct '77 (3 days before the plane crash) some fat guy got beat up really bad on the floor.

The worst fucking arena for a rock concert ever. Not just the shitty acoustics, but all the rowdy behavior (fans once urinated on Bruce Springsteen's stage) and the worst traffic lines in history. Half of the Wikipedia entry on the Hollywood Sportatorium addresses all the problems with the place when it came to shows. The only reason it hosted all those events is because the greater Miami area had no other indoor venue that could hold that many people for ages. Kenny Rogers stopped playing concerts there forever when The Gambler found out that several hundred people missed his gig because of the traffic problems. I will never forget when Billy Joel said right on stage "Fuck the traffic getting to this place!" after a huge delay in getting his gig started.

nice vid ... wish he would have dug up more on the dragstrip. I saw the hydrogen - rocket drag cars there once. Unbelievable. I think they are outlawed now. Ridiculous.

I went to converts there back then and the youth of today has no idea of the freedom and rawness of that time. The tickets were cheap, the acoustics sucked and one time we actually snuck in but the place partied. You always knew there was a concert out there buy the broke down cars along Hollywood Blvd. I almost lost my hearing when AC/DC played. They actually had real cannons!
