peter really gave chicago a unique sound that they never recaptured after he left. they weren't as good without him.this always was my favorite song on 17.
Peter Cetera has filled so many of our hearts with love and happiness. I thank this wonderful and talented singer, writer, and outstanding musician, for leaving us with a wealth of beautiful songs that have touched our hearts. It is 2021 and he is retired. He will surely be missed. I listen to some of his songs every single day and that brings me happiness and warmth. Peter Cetera lights up a room with his talent! “Have a wonderful retirement Mr. Cetera! You’re my inspiration and you bring feeling to my life…until the end of time!”
Probably the reason why they never did it live was, it was so much better in studio. There's just something about Cetera's voice that made the song so hauntingly beautiful. A full orchestra can't do justice to the power of just a voice and few instruments.
TruthHurts58 I adore Peter but I was very disappointed that I couldn't see them perform one more time. the way things fell, it made Peter look trivial and diva-like. what a shame, all the way around.
Amy those guys have done nothing but dog him since he left and he has taken the high road time and time again. The shame belongs to Jimmy Pankow, Robert Lamm, and Lee Loughnane. If you notice, Journey was recently voted in and Neil Schon went out of his way to say they wanted Steve Perry to sing with them and they would do whatever he wanted, even if it meant lowering the keys to the songs for him since he hasn't sung with them in 20 years. That's all Peter wanted from Chicago and they refused. It was all or nothing with them. Their way or the highway. Too bad Chicago doesn't have the class that Journey does.
You know when one points the finger at some one in judgement (namely those members of Chicago you have mentioned) what normally happens is that people start to look at the accusers. In this case Pankow, Lamm and Loughnane clearly know that when Pete left it was going to hit them hard and lets face it...it has. Of course it was bad enough when Terry Kath left which was outside anyones control but losing Pete certainly shows those other guys up. I think they were also responsible for kick Donnie Dacus out of the band too .
@@TruthHurts58 thank you, thank you, thank you. I believe this to be true and have said as much, without the peaceful restraint of you. I am holding more anger for the bad way the members have dogged and keep dogging Peter. They do not have my respect. But would if they behaved with more wisdom, maturity and walked in the Truth, not revisionist fiction and lies.
Chord inversion is the magic ingredient in the music of Chicago. That enabled them to throw in so many key changes seamlessly. This arrangement is very rich, but I miss the same 'feelings' in Peter's voice. It is most apparent in the first few lines, where the song gets more of a dance song character to it, than a real love-ballad. Peter's voice on the record has simply the best control and intonation I've ever heard, and that without auto-tune.
And yet, I crave the memories that changed my life, crazy world, I wouldn’t have traded a minute, it was like this,” a journey from innocence to experience “
When I was a nurse, one of my fellow co workers wad dating a Dr.,they went to Chicago concert, they had front row seats, and got to meet the band afterwards,I was so jealous mi had this album on vinyl.
I loved this song off of Chicago 17......Its sad that some of the greatest songs are never heard or buried on an album....AMAZING SONG I HAVE LOVED SINCE I FIRST HEARD !!
6 people who clearly have thier volume button on MUTE!!! - Such a great song.....floating, soaring you travel to places in your mind that are simply sublime.....this why music is sooooo good.....memories are a bonus.
i cant get enough of this song. many of the lyrics just remind me of my Mom who passed and a dream I had of her holding me and I awoke and she was gone! thank you Peter and Bill for writing this beautiful song.
I wish he sang it like the original though, through to the end. I searched for a live version of this and was psyched finding it. Bittersweet. Wish he'd come out of retirement, ha duo with Bill Champlain and sing it fully.
hearing this song again made me travel back in time during the 80's when Chicago was very popular. I love all their songs and Peter Cetera oh boy I'll always recognize that voice very distinct....one of a kind. thanks for the upload:)))
Only you,Remember the feeling, We can stop the hurtin. All songs from Chicago 17 got very little, if any air time back in the day. This song makes me cry,the original version. This one just makes me smile
This song is my favourite from Chicago 17 album, it completes me the whole percussion is beautiful arranged , so true Mr C , always forgotten by people , but best hidden Treasure, 😍
Just beautiful........This sounds more like a Peter Cetera solo career song, rather than a Chicago song......The timing doesn't matter, it's a wonderful song, sung beautifully by Peter.........I don't think anyone else could sing this as well as Peter....Bravo, Peter! (loud applause and standing ovation...:):)...)
Considering that he did this song 30+ years ago, I think he sounds pretty remarkable. I can't hit high notes I could hit 10 years ago, so his voice is very well preserved overall.

This song is hard to play and even harder to sing. What a perfect piece. And Peter delivers it nicely. It sounds like it is a half step, or maybe a whole step, lower than the Chicago 17 version. But the notes are still incredibly hard to hit. He clips notes short, and blew a lyric, and still sounds amazing. He is just an incredible artist.
@whodoipp same here, then and now to me he's still one of the best artists around with that powerful voice, and his songs... they really stir powerful emotions ^__^
@imjax yep, that is, but I think that the original song can be easily found on the internet, this is a piece of art!...but thanks my friend for the advice..and thanks for contribute to the comments!
How could he have forgotten this song? To me it was the most beautiful and moving songs on the record! Oh, Peter, as I've thought for a long time: Not a lot of depth in you. At least I have my good memories listening to your recordings, and despite the obvious fact that you were not feeling it at the time, I, and many others, were. Thank you, and Chicago, and Bill Chaplin for this great song. I will--always--remember the feeling.
Maybe it’s because he hadn’t sung it in 20+ years at the time of this concert. He has a TelePrompTer in front of him but as a professional he was probably trying not to stare at it all the time. So he blew a lyric, he recovered and it was the end of the song. It was still a great performance.
In my observation, pop singers have one of two choices, as their voices age: 1) Keep the song in its original key, but let a backup singer take the high notes 2) Pitch the song lower, so as to be able to still sing it 100% yourself. Elton John has largely taken the first option, allowing the voice of someone else to take the high stuff. (And in the case of songs which are high notes nearly all the way thru, just doesn't do them live at all anymore) Peter Cetera has taken option 2, which is disappointing to me as a listener, accustomed to the original key. But after only a moment or two of listening, I can appreciate the new arrangements. And this full orchestra--What's not to like about that. Thumbs up!
Peter is still singing surprisingly well I think too by the way . . . others his age I think probably need to hang it up tho. They're tired, not Peter.
Too bad he didn’t or couldn’t sing the closing high wails of the song that were on the album. They’re magnificent. But it’s OK, Pete. We know, by your own admission, there are things you can’t sing anymore. That kind of stuff happens to all of us with age.
If you have a vinyl copy of Chicago hits 82-89 this song is on the vinyl version where Along Comes A Woman should be and is listed to be in. Must have been a mistake in pressing. Good one though, Along comes a woman was crap compared to this song!

I love this song, but kinda disappointed that Peter didn't memorize the lyrics better for this live performance. Definitely a couple of missed lines, words...
Chicago isn't the same without PC, but it sounds alot by Glory of Love in terms of chord progression. I've always been a fan, but you ripped this on off from the band that made you.
Tony H he co-wrote the song, he can do anything he wants with it and any other song he wrote with Chicago. I’m certain he is aware of his past but let’s leave it there, he certainly has.
I see Pete needed to practice this song JUUST a bit more lol. He botched the lyrics twice. Instead of enjoying one of my favorite songs I had never heard live, I was cringing!
One of the most underrated song. Love this to bits!

He blew the lyric at the end but he's such a pro, he gets out of it. Killed this!
Love this song, he blew the lyrics twice. That in itself doesn’t let you “kill” a song. He did ok though.
