The guys on the dock also use pre-made wire leaders complete with weight and snap swivel! These guys are known by experienced anglers as "squidders", named after their favorite frozen bait. When I was VERY young my dad told me that 90% of the fish caught, were caught by 10% of the fisherman! As I grew up, I realized how true that is!
Lol I used to do that when I didn't know a damn thing about fishing. So stupid to cast out in open water when fish and bait fish always gather near structure. I've seen guys catch Goliath grouper just dropping right under a dock they're standing on. Big snook, reds, trout, mangrove snapper, grouper, you name it. They'll be under the dock in the shade protected by structure so long as it's deep enough under there with moving water.
@@WalkwithGod4eternity LOL, Don't tell people that you didn't know a damn thing about fishing! Just tell them you used to cast out because you were targeting catfish! 😊

Great video as usual! Not sure why I feel compelled to say something, but the paradigm that I'm coming from is one in which I have back surgery scheduled for Jan. 10th to fix a problem I've been nursing for the last 30 years or so. There is no way I could cook on the ground right now...pick something up maybe, but not stay bent over. Why not take some wear and tear off the back by getting a newspaper and keeping it in the truck? One sheet under the stove is all it would take to protect the table from spatters. Just a thought.

Nice video as always,. im on the same route as you right now it seems. Got sick of struggling with artificial lately so its been shrimp and fiddlers for me too
It's hard for that little stove to get hot enough for a good white hot cast iron skillet needed to truly blacken the fish. I found the best way, and I know you're cooking on the move and portable, but the best way is to put the skillet right on top of a pile of red hot charcoals on a charcoal grill. That's the best way to blacken fish and Ive tried several different ways. You fried them good but they aren't blackened. And I agree with the redfish magic. That stuff is excellent 👌
Haha had to laugh after reading the last post because I moved from Chicago to buy a home on the water in St Pete and I swear there is always 3 snook under my dock
Thanks for watching. I guess some of the mud I slung on the wall stuck. TH-cam is forever a mystery. I've made 100 videos like this one and all of the sudden one takes off like a rocket?
JC what's the rig you use in you're videos ? I think I heard you say leader and a split shot in another video. I live in Saint Augustine and have been in Jensen Beach for the past month and have been having absolutely no luck. Trying to target snook and sheepies
I free line shrimp as often as possible in the shallower areas. When I fish in the major inlets where there's current and the water sometimes is deep I'll use some weight.
Awesome video JC! Are the pompano not running in your area? I’m coming back down to FL on the 18th for a little while and cannot wait to get on some fish. I’ll be ice fishing on the 17th and the next day on the beach chasin pomp’s lol 😆

Years and years ago there was a huge phosphate loading dock on Boca Grande pass. We’d wait for an outgoing tide after sunset and sneak out to the T portion and hang an Aida lantern down right above the water and give it time to attract baitfish. This was before there were limits on snook and reds. Using huge live bait caught closer in to shore, we’d catch absolute monsters all night long while the tide was moving. The biggest ones we’d have to walk back in to shore. That famous dock is no longer there☹️
Battery life is dependent on the distance traveled, the current and the wind resistance. I've been fishing with the AutoPilot 120 for three years and I've never ran out of battery power. I always recharge the battery to full after every fishing trip.
I am having a problem (probably seating the motor?) with spotlock not working. Engine runs, but will not turn or spotlock. Ever have that problem? If so, how did you fix it? And what am I probably doing wrong?
I did have that problem with the first motor design. There was a collar designed to interlock with another collar that broke and Old Town has since redesigned the collar. Old Town sent me the newly designed motor.
It always amazes me to see fishermen cast out as far as possible on the dock. Guys in boats come in close and cast under the dock

There is a direct correlation between a thumb that curves backwards and generosity. Stingy people have stiff thumbs.

well i just now finished the video actually 🤣🤣
Fun fact, the spot on the red drum’s tail acts as a false eye to fool predators into attacking head first.
Yep! 💯
I actually did this in fort DeSoto and hooked on to a huge stingray!
Great to know, I catch lots of reds, always nice to learn something new.
It's to scare predators as they move their tail back and forth the false eye gets bigger and bigger
I dream of a day like that, lol.I’d be happy with one of those fish.
Making it look easy,man.

Awesome stuff dude
Thats a great sport JC... I have found that with the wind blowing that direction, the fish tend to be there and ready to eat!
Your lucky here in fort Pierce red drum are closed for harvest
That’s got to hurt not being able to catch them, we had something similar happen in Texas by south padre, the cold snap did a number on the fish

hey JC great content as always, the ugly stick rod that you’re using, is it the lite pro 7’?
It's the Intercoastal.
Nicoooce 👍🏽 Heck yeah! Nice!
Did you use the olive oil. It looked like just butter and seasoning.
Just butter. I don't know why I got out the olive oil. You can use olive oil with the butter, but to get that blackened look the butter helps.
Good catch and badass video
Are you free lining or are using a weight. Thanks JC
No weight.
i always wondered what sheepheads were i get them all the time in texas and just throw them back
Awesome video, great content
How long can you fish and use spot lock before battery is a concern?
Battery life is dependent on the distance traveled, the current and the wind resistance. I've been fishing with the AutoPilot 120 for three years and I've never ran out of battery power. I always recharge the battery to full after every fishing trip.
nice fishing but you need to work on your filleting def lost a lot of meat on that part
How do you keep the shrimp alive hooking thru the head like that? 👀 seems like it’s more secure thru there
They stay alive better if they are hooked through the tail I think, but sometimes when hooked in the tail they don't really sink toward the bottom.
I hook the shrimp rt behind where the horn starts, and they stay alive quite a bit
Why didn’t you put your gas grill on top of the barbecue grill? Less bending easy to work saves the back
Good thought, I'll consider that next time.
You do any shoreline fishing in this cold weather?
do you mean fishing from shore?
So nice!
The blue tails indicate they’re feeding heavily on blue crab
I am having a problem (probably seating the motor?) with spotlock not working. Engine runs, but will not turn or spotlock. Ever have that problem? If so, how did you fix it? And what am I probably doing wrong?
