Great project. I love cooking with a black pot, too. And I'm also a frailer, so what a treat to hear Old Joe Clark as you bake the biscuits. One of my favorite banjo tunes.
Very nice and easy construction was pretty straight forward. Pictured you upsetting the end then splitting it into three sections working it from there.
Many different options for the twist, but this one works really well. I might try and match the twist on every piece of the set, just because my OCD would drive me to drinking if they didn't at least appear to match.

This idea took me back to the 50's when we used oil stoves in the kitchen. My wife grew up with coal stoves. Same lid lifter required.The burners had heavy cast iron lids with recessed holes and need a suitable lid lifter. Pretty much the same concept with yours. Although we've never used a Dutch Oven, I've seen others attempt to get the lid off with sticks and kindling with poor results. Perfect project for anyone with a dutch oven. I've never seen these for sale. Cheers.
Great biscuits, I like mine with honey or jelly... I like the lid lifter as well. I have seen others using one that is just a hook and they really need to be careful to avoid spills, great project...
Another great video. The banjo playing at the camp fire with all your camp fire tools was a great outro . You should think about doing an intro like that as well, even if its the same for each video. I also watch banjo playing and combining the two kills two birds with one stone :}

Another great project that only requires some very simple tools. A thought on keeping the legs from turning, can you forge the center of the 3/8 rod oval or square and when you seat it into the hole it will not be round, so will resist rotation? It would also mean it acts as a very slight drift which would ensure a nice snug fit.

One thing you could have considered John, is putting a small spline Groove in the center of the dog leg. Then hammer the corresponding wall of the hole that it passes through, thereby locking it in place.
I helped make a lid lifter as a colab with two other smiths. One was recovering from surgery so he advised. The other two of us gave input and came out with a different kind of lid lifter that the client was ecstatic over. We traded it to him for our lunch. Everybody was happy. But I was very interested to see your take on a dutch oven lid lifter so maybe I can get some good ideas for my next one. Great project and instruction as usual. I recognize the banjo tune but can't come up with the name. It's an old one.

I just made one of these for my dutch oven. I just made a simple hook then welded another piece of same material across the bottom. Nice work.

Those looked like cat head biscuits! Or that's what Emeril Lagasse calls them.
They were actually rolled and cut to shape. If I remember right Cat Head biscuits were more of a drop biscuit.
