  • A while back I made a forged fork with a flat stock handle. I had always meant for that to be part of a set with a spoon and spatula forged to match. Today I finally get around to the spatula from 1/4" x 3/4" flat bar.

    Once the set is complete it would be a perfect set for bush camping 🏕 I think you should do a small knife bade on the end of a handle the same length as the rest it would come in handy for cutting up things in a camp oven over a fire so you don’t burn your knuckles being to close

    In a Mark Aspery class he showed us how to fold the end over and forge weld it to gain more mass for the spatula part. I believe the starting stock size was about the same.
    Nice technique to get to the classic spatula shape!

      @shadetreeforge 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott,I did the same thing on a fireplace broom handle using 1/4" x 5/16" s stock, instead of 1/2" square stock. A customer wanted a more delicate handle, so I folded over and forge welded to get a 3/4" x 1-1/2" tab for the broom maker to tie on the broom

      Joel C. Salomon mild steel has plenty of spring as long as you don’t get any cracks.

  • @leontorkelson6246
    @leontorkelson6246 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This may be a bit much, but forge weld a piece of 1 1/2 x 1/4" on the 3/4" x 1/4" to have more material for the spatula without a lot of drawing out.

    • @BlackBearForge
      @BlackBearForge  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forge welding to achieve a starting size is a great way to work.
