Byron Lee a well known Jamaican bandleader used to come to Trinidad religiously to play for masqueraders on the road. He introduced carnival to Jamaica. I played mas for many years to his music back in the day. We are presently planning to take carnival to Dubai as we did to many countries all over the world
But Jamaican ,tatuar lyrics, take over, kaiso Dead. Steelpan band, have to go back to old music. Jamaican lyrics, can't be arranged for pan.😢

I should have mentioned a thank you to the lady at the Africsn shop. Carnival in Trinidad started with the slaves mimicking the French plantation owners masquerade balls. To learn the history of carnival, try to go to see the Canboulay just before carnival Monday. It is held near to Piccadilly Street. You can also get the full history on the Internet.

African Tigress you should look at carnival videos from the 50s 60s and 70s to see the old time costumes and the progression from then to carnival now. So you will get an idea of the old sailor costumes and others
Only in Trinidad you can party for 21 days in a row. No wonder no one is on the streets in the day time, they are sleeping 😂 waiting for the night😂. You can’t have it both ways 😂

Every carnival in the Caribbean is colorful, and Africa has Oil as well only difference Trinidad is putting their money to better use.
Also, the entire industry is operated and worked by Trinidadians from top to bottom, from the under water welders pipe layers all the technical and engineering aspects. In Africa its yt foreigners that run the industry, and the Africans do all the grunt work.....they don't train their people to run the industry and benefit from it.

The action in Carnival village are during the evenings/nights. Go during the night. Lots of people, music and food.
I'll definitely agree. I've been traveling to T&T 🇹🇹 Carnival for years. I like it very much. 🇯🇲Jamaica's Carnival is very much improving though. Heading to Trini soon. 🇧🇧B'bdos crop over is kick a$$ too.

I am so impressed with this blogger and the way she covers her locations and her interaction with the people is heartwarming. This is the best blog I have seen about Trinidad. I must watch all her blogs on different countries. A lot of us don't appreciate our cultures and countries until after we have migrated to somewhere else. Keep up the very good job. AND Trinidad is the birthplace and absolute mecca of steelpan.
Since you mentioned people that you'd love to meet, perhaps the first black woman to win Miss Universe would be a good person to meet. She's from Trinidad and Tobago and her name is Janelle 'Penny' Commissiong. She is a good ambassador for T&T.

I love the steel pan in Trinidad i am a drummer but the steel pan is way advance I'd love to learn to play; I wonder who could teach me😊
You can visit, and get in contact with one of the STEEL BANDS, they will be happy to teach you, we have visitors who come every year even from JAPAN and they play in the steel bands for PANORAMA. which is a competition between the STEELBANDS, we have every year for Carnival. You will love it.
Trinidad created the steel pan so we have to be the best and there had been consistent development with new Pans through the years

A nice simple tour of Port of Spain during the day
Many people don't live within the center of Port-of-Spain/downtown POS. I'm not sure what time you were walking, however around 4:30pm it starts to empty out as people head home from work. More persons will be seen in certain areas such as Arapita Ave and St James as they are closer to residential neighbourhoods.
Not sure why AT. Never ventured on the Ave. if you want to show the city with its activities. Then the Avenue is where it’s at. Don’t leave without going on the Ave!

Oh yes. We take our Carnival very seriously. We pay homage to our ancestors for J'ouvert ( the elders know you are supposed to pure out rum. I don't know about the younger folk, but you should) and celebrate life in the morning. We used Carnival to mock and protest our enslavement which led to our freedom.

African T, I am sorry I am not in Trinidad. I would have brought some pelau for you. Most of us learn to cook a good pelau in our teens. Any takers? I thank you for showing All Stars Panyard. What a lovely place and what a big production. This was a good interview to show the world what it takes to have a successful top Trinidad steel orchestra. The lady you interviewed did an excellent job. Re transportation, please get someone to show you how the public transportation operates.
Except me I can't cook pelau, always comes out sappy, my mother hated pelau so she never cooked it so I never learned to cook it well, but it taste good though.

African Tigress. I know I have commented on this video before, but it popped up on my screen again. While you were walking up Charlotte Street, at -7:27 to -4:52/1:26:09, to the right was the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. It is the largest public hospital in Port-of-Spain. It was founded as The Colonial Hospital in 1854. It was good for me to familiarize myself with how POS looks now. My mother and aunt were nurses there, many decades ago.
