  • The food of Malaysia is insanely good! We're in Kuala Lumpur to eat as much as we can, take Dad down memory lane and also get him on his first ever food tour! Book the food tour here - geni.us/dpEeA1X ⬇ See below for our Malaysia recommendations ⬇
Malaysia is a melting pot of cultures with some seriously delicious and diverse cuisine, it's some of the best street food in the world! There's influence by the main 3 flavours of Malay, Chinese and Indian, but some meals cross over creating an insanely good food scene!
Dad's been craving the food of Malaysia for years now, so before coming back to Kuala Lumpur we'd asked him to name a few dishes and something he'd love to do... after watching us take food tours all around the world, trying street food and hunting out local meals he wanted to take a food tour with us.
So we teamed up with the epic crew at A Chef's Tour again on the Chow Kit Kuala Lumpur tour and it was an outrageous amount of samples, foods, knowledge and experience! Just wait till the end and see Dad's reaction! If you want to book this exact food tour you can go here - geni.us/dpEeA1X Or take a look at the other food tours all around the world they offer here - geni.us/gzs91GB
Travels With My Dad is a 7-part series, so hit that subscribe button and kick back with us each week as we take Dad deeper into his past, rediscovering old memories, creating lots of new ones and getting him out of his comfort zone!

Kampung Baru was named as such when it was established as a new area of resettlement for the malay villagers when Kuala Lumpur was re-gazetted from a mining town into a proper city back in 1899.

I am Malaysian and grew up in Kuching/Kula Lumpur before moving to Australia, so I LOVEEE all these foods! So funny watching yal try the foods! Definitely Malaysia has the best tasting Char Kuay Teow and Mee Goreng, it's SOOO FLAVOURFUL. So funny how you described durian as mashed onion LOL - I think it tastes like if Banana and Custard had a baby!! Haha

It is named Kampung Baru (New Village / New Town) because it was one of the first towns to be developed in the 1900s in KL. Before that, the whole place was once an ore mining town. It was developed to be an Urban Town. That's the reason.
Just like Kuala Lumpur literally means Muddy Conflux as it was once just a muddy village. Now Kuala Lumpur is full of concrete and no sign of mud 😂

🕓 Time 14:05 Kampung Baru - This village of 1899 was then the newest part of Kuala Lumpur established since 1857, hence its call "The New" Kampung. 🤔 Imagine like the so called young man of your father at the time, now return back for visit. But still called by his old pals: "Young George" 😅😂
