Today it's something entirely new where we all try to make a case for two mostly forgotten car manufacturers: Isuzu and Saturn. Who will take home the belt? Will you buy a Saturn Astra now?

During the time when I owned a lowered S10 in 2003, I noticed that whenever I purchased parts for it, the quality of the used OEM Hombre parts I bought was significantly inferior.
Saturn Astra is a rebadged Vauxhall Astra, they make high spec models of it in the UK, look up the VXR Nurburgring, best example of the car you was looking at
They are also sold as Opel Astra, the best version is the Astra GTC OPC, those came with up to 280hp. A friend of mine raced his 2011 Scirocco against one and got completely smoked lmao
Also sold as the Holden astra in Australia, recognised nationally as a piece of shit until you slap a honda k series motor and a turbo in it
@@j4y167 Saturns Engine block looks like it was cast with styrofoam 😂. Lady broke down in front of my house so I went to see if could help. 😂🤣 piston was hanging out the side of the block. I found a pice of the block and it look like metal styrofoam!
Before watching or reading comments i gotta say, Isuzu is a real brand. Sure theres some interesting saturns, but overall, isuzu is a real brand and saturn is just an economy tier offshoot of a real brand that is already mostly econonomical. Gm cant fool me, just cause they rebadge the cheapest cars as saturns doesnt mean those chevy equinoxes are any more fancy
Saturn S series was never rebadged. 1.9L 4 cyl never installed in other cars except the S series.
GM choked saturn into the ground, forcing them to rebrand shit in the end.
Been watching for a good minute now and i love the normal style videos but, i love this format and this versus style so much. It brings some of those petty back and forths from the traditional videos to a bigger scale.

Our family had our Saturn SL2 since new and I too would choose the Vehicross. Radwood special!
The Elf (as are all box trucks out of japan) is a base design which lots of variants stem from. so no, it's not "a camper". that is one example of the Elf. The main one is a small box truck (but NOT kei truck) that in reality comes out to about the size of a medium or small large truck (think 1st gen Tundra or 2000s GMC Sierra single cab with short bed). They are all cabin-overs (mid engined). and unlike kei trucks, they run duallies out back and most of them have some 2-3 liter diesel / turbo diesel.
It is also called the Toyota Dyna and the Daihatsu Delta.
I got at least 2 cool Isuzus that could have made the list the 117 and the Gemini ZZR

the Isuzu Impulse RS Turbo has been one of my semi-attainable dream cars, ive always just thought they were super cool, none of them even exist anymore though

TLDW: Isuzu is miles better for a multitude of reasons, with the best reason being "They still exist as an automotive company." Saturn was GM's attempt to make small cars divorced from the stink of being a GM brand, which kind of worked until they just became badge engineered generic GM shitboxes at the end (even the Sky Roadster).
The OG Saturns, like the SL1 and SL2, still slap pretty hard though. Would absolutely prefer one over a Geo Metro, although they sell for about the same in my area. I also don't agree with the logic of "if X company doesn't exist anymore, their cars are trash". AMC, Studebaker, Packard, Borgward, Hispano-Suiza, Simca, Delahaye, Monteverde, Bristol, the whole Rootes Group, Pegaso, Hino, Autobianchi, ZiL, and a whole laundry list of other now-dead marques made stuff that still wows people today.
It was also supposed to be or become an american Toyota. Even incorporated the continuous improvment.
Problem was it became a Brain Drain for GM with a lot of talent and and up and comers gravitating to it. This of course upset those in charge and set in motion political infighting who stripped resources from Saturn and made sure it would fail.
I was hoping to see the Isuzu Axiom (Spy Kids car) in this video... probably wouldn't win, but great commentary potential...
No joke, I thought the Axiom was one of the better looking SUVs of its era
Fun fact, in Australia the Isuzu Amigo was also called the Isuzu MU as well as the Holden Frontera

I had a saturn l200 with the 2.2 ecotec and it was a great beater car
I remember going on a field trip to a museum as a 5th grader, and for some reason, Saturn had an appearance there. Had a showroom car, and a person talking to us about how great their car was. They gave us all some Saturn hot wheels cars. O feel like their marketing department was ran by morons, or they were trying to hook us on Saturn's for high-school. I mean, they went out of business 5 years later lol. Idk think it was a little stupid and not a very well thought out choice. I blew up my hot wheels saturn launching it with five bottle rockets together.
The reason they went out of business was because of corporate meddling and the recession

Missed opportunity to talk about the first gen Isuzu Impulse/Piazza which was basically an entirely different car except that it was also FWD, came in turbo and non-turbo offerings, and had optional Lotus-tuned suspension as well. Other than that the platform was completely different and the design was done by Giugiaro.
Also the gen2 Impulse/Piazza was the exact same car as the Geo Storm underneath the plastic, which itself was sold as the Isuzu Pa Nero in Japan and was offered in a weird 3-door shooting brake variant.
The Isuzu elf has to have a bathroom in order to hold the title of shxtbox 🤣🤣

I have a 2007 saturn ion 5 speed manual with 128k miles on it. I love it. It is probably shitty to most people but its the newest car ive owned by 11 years and the nicest by a mile. Hope it lasts me at least a couple years.

I defend the outlook. If its the envoy/trailblazer platform itll be reliable as hell especially if it carried the 4.2
Yeah, rip the powertrain out of the Outlook, and put that in the trash. Anything else put into that thing has to be better than that infamous 3.6 V6 and the 6 speed auto.
Trooper, baby! True, it was a poor person's Land Cruiser...but with a great build quality and with the 4 wheel drive version it was highly competent off-road (which took me all over the Big Bend country for years and years). Only bad thing is that it was an interference motor with a timing belt, so you can tell what killed mine when the belt died at 70mph. So...for fun around the road, the Saturn hands down, but if you are a certain type of person who needs reasonable offroad cred (and great grocery-getter ability), the early gen Troopers were great fun.

I learnt how to drive stick in my dad’s Saturn Sky Redline. Very fun to drive the clutch has gotten SO mushy over the years tho. I’m gonna have to replace it for him😂

Had 2, both SL2.
Simple car, underpowered, cheap parts.
First one was ok, but I always had problems. Mostly overheating issues. I spent way to much money fixing the car.
The second one (the redeemer) was a car that refused to die. There was shitboxes and there was my car. It was given to me by a person just looking to get a tax rightoff. The side small window on the drivers side was broken (and stayed that way), no ac, (heat worked), someone had tried to steal the car at one point and messed up the ignition. You could start the car with anything that would turn the key lock. Door locks did not work anyway.
This was not a looker, but the car was fine. Was told it might last me 3 months. It lasted over 3 years and was still running when I got rid of it.
It survived having the whole right fender sheared off from a piece of the front tire at 80mph. It drove fine, and all my lights worked (I had to tape the lights into place) so I kept driving it. It looked like I won a demolish derby. I was even pulled over just because a cop wanted to look at my car, knowing that I was legal to drive it. (really, he just could not believe the car and wanted to see if it was really legal, it was so no ticket)

For some reason I love the Trooper because it's as unapologetically an SUV as you can get without using fake wood paneling. And gune to head, have to own an SUV, Isuzu Trooper. Of course, it's kinda like being last place of the ugly dog contest. Like you're not the ugliest, but you're there for a reason.
Also my first car was a 2000 Saturn SL1, with a manual. It was AN CAR, and I learnt stick with it. Honestly for what it was, pretty nice.

As someone who has owned and learned to drive in a Saturn Ion, and has owned an Isuzu Impulse (yes this is a poverty flex), I can confidently say that the Saturn Ion is the worst driving, least safe, most garbage build quality car that I have ever been in or experienced the displeasure of driving. Despite being almost 20 years newer than my Isuzu it somehow had less features, comfort and technology. All trim levels drive like taint and leave you feeling physically and emotionally drained after every drive.
No abs, no power locks or windows, FIXED IN PLACE passenger mirror, about 2 inches of seat adjustment forward and back, can't adjust the passenger seat at all, cabin noise of an AC-130, driving over 60 felt like the car was going to be blown over by the wind...and the infamous GM faulty ignition switch that was unsuccessfully replaced 3 times to the point that we literally removed the plastic around the ignition so we could manually disengage the key). I've driven a redline and it's just as unpleasant.
Garbage ass piece of tupperware that no power train could redeem.
Now, my friend's Isuzu Rodeo? That was the high school hotbox mobile; 11/10.

Those Saturn outlooks came with a horrible 3.6, the same one in the Acadia, Traverse etc. It's basically an Acadia with a Saturn badge.
And those 3.6 are anything but reliable. They all blow timing chains at exactly 200000km. 130000mi. Basically every single one.
