So far there are 1700+ identified caves in Meghalaya, 1000+ have been explored with a total length of around 600+ km that have been mapped till date. The caves are either Limestone or Sandstone with Krem Laitprah in Jaintia Hills being the longest in India at 30+km in length. The record for the Longest Sandstone cave in the World is currently held by Krem Puri, south of Mawsynram at 24.5km mapped & recorded so far. Every year the Meghalaya Adventure Association (MAA) the pioneer in cave exploration in the state headed by Mr. Brian Daly Kharpran, are discovering, exploring & recording more & more caves & trying their best to advocate for preserving these natural treasures. One error I made in the video is that I said Arwah Cave is 7km long, that was a big mistake I made. Arwah is around 3km long & infact it is Mawmluh Cave where after long drawn research, the geological age called the Meghalayan Age was given its name by the International Commission on Stratigraphy. And that is actually 7km in length. My apologies for the error.

My dad too lived in remote Darjeeling and as a toddler I experienced picnic spots which today I could swear no man could have been to. The company Jeep and driver made it possible. Those days we were ignorant of the dangers of nature and just drove into the midst if nowhere just to relax, and have a picnic by a waterfall or stream. Life was so innocent and carefree back then. Only dad worked but we had an adventurous life
We as kids lived at the very top of India _ Darjeeling and on weekends my dad would get the company Jeep and driver and take us to the middle of nowhere where we would stop, light a fire near a crystal clear stream or waterfall and warm our picnic goodies and relax. Fortunately we were ignorant of the dangers of natural calamities as we just drove and stopped anywhere we found stunning. Those were Pure adventures _ felt like no other human had set foot in some wild places
The best to tour in around Shilllong and its surrounding is from September to February to witness its natural beauty at its best. Since May - August it's monsoon, so lots of rainfall and its waterfall at its peak, not unless you're adventure and have a lot of days to tour Shilllong.
