She gets Scriabin, partly through a capacious empathic sensibility, partly through serious study. What a genius! Scriabin, in his loosening of tonality, was way ahead of his time: others at the time did related things, but generally from a more systematized approach, e.g., via post-Wagnerian polytonality or serialism or impressionism.

Gorgeous performance. Excellent voicing, superb control of the dynamics, sensitive and lyrical touch, drama without bombast. Just masterfully done.

Yuga wang conveys the inner soul and serenity of the first movement beautifully, her control of dynamics is superb.
The drama of the second movement is stunningly executed.

Great performance! A very mature balance between tempo and expression. Scriabin has structure in his music, and tempo is an important element. A performance comparable to Hamelin's.

I first experienced Miss Wang's extraordinary playing via the car radio; It was a transcription of The Sorcerers apprentice, and I was flabbergasted! Then...when I saw her, I found the dichotomy posed by the albeit tantalizing "visual" a little disconcerting.She...(let's just say it !) Rests easy on the eyes! That being said...All subsequent hearings have only reinforced my original reaction to her artistry.Visuals or no visuals...This is ONE PHENOMENAL PIANIST! One whose playing I will eagerly seek out at any opportunity!

I see your point, she enjoys projecting a glamorous image, indeed on some occasions even a vampish image. This aspect can be distracting in the face of such noble and brilliant playing which she is undoubtedly capable of, therefore her racy appearance becomes somewhat incongruous under the circumstances.
Perhaps she is best heard on radio!.

Well said Dexter. "Visuals or no visuals, this is ONE PHENOMENAL PIANIST!" Absolutely!! Those are the exact words (in caps) used by Sir Simon Rattle, former maestro conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for 16 years, to describe Yuja Wang.

🧏🏻‍♀️ Yuja Wang Plays Scriabin 🧏🏻‍♀️
    Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915)
    Piano Sonata No. 2 in G-Sharp Minor *(“Sonata-Fantasie”),* Op. 19 *(1892-97)*
    00:15 I. Andante
    08:18 II. Presto
    11:54 *Applause*
_”...the first movement represents the quiet of a southern night on the seashore; the development is the dark agitations of the deep, deep sea. The E Major middle section shows the caressing moonlight coming after the first darkness of night. The second movement represents the vast expanse of ocean in stormy agitation.”_

I just heard for the first time, Yunchan Lim's rendition of this sonata, from last year's Cliburn (which he won, as I'm sure you all know), and I came right to this one from Yuja (and her previous, "younger" one) right after, to compare. All beautiful, though different. Yuja is perhaps more tender (well, not in the fortissimi, of course!), and Yunchan perhaps more lyrical. I love what Yunchan does with the "middle voices". Worth listening to! :-) Cheers all!

Noone plays Scriabin like her! She has the technique to play what the composer has written and needs no ritardandi because of lacks of it, like most other pianists. And these other pianists- I say no names! - are praised of their creativity.....it's not creative, it's only a lack of pianism!
She creates a new way to play...honest, in the sense of the composer and with style.
A concert is first visual and second for the ears! Instead you could listen to CD!
Think of Franz Liszt, perhaps the only pianist to be compared with her......for the ears AND for the eyes! He was also the first who played the "Hammerklavier" ...he said about it: "to play Beethoven you needs more technique as it needs....." After his interpretation perhaps hers is the first played as it should be.....(Busoni also did it very well!)

Well, we are all glad that in our cupboards with the vinyl records we also have the shards of clay played by Liszt and Busoni, so that we can understand your comparisons between the greats of the 19th century and the object of your admiration. - I have wonderful memories of a recital with G. Sokolov in 2007 in which he played, for me in an unforgettable way, e.B. Skrijabin's "Vers la Flamme".

@helenyang5317: What is it with you and the communist comments? Just listen to the music and be transported. Yuja is a phenomenal pianist who fills the world with captivating and inspiring music, supported by her flawless technique. How about commenting on that? You're weird.

@@portlock99 I really like Yuja Wangs interpretation, but Scriabin's Sonata No.2 was better performed by Richter, in my opinion. I have yet to see/hear a better performance of this piece than Richters.

Yes, agreed, Sofronitsky or Richter surpassed her version, but still she is fine musician
