- When SpongeBob SquarePants was pitched to Nickelodeon by Stephen Hillenburg, a series of pages were created. This shows off Sponge Boy, Patrick, Squidward, and all the key elements of Bikini Bottom that would make up SpongeBob SquarePants. It's officially public!
The SpongeBob SquarePants pitch bible has been lost media ever since Stephen Hillenburg made it. Pages have come out every once in a while, but the full document hasn't been seen by the public until now. In it, we get lost SpongeBob episodes and scenes, a surprise romance with Sandy Cheeks, different designs for The Chum Bucket and The Krusty Krab, and so much more! Let's step into Hillenburg's creative mind from more than two decades ago, before SpongeBob appeared on Nickelodeon...

Fun Fact: Help Wanted was originally meant to be another one of those unreleased pilots, but then Nickelodeon decided to air it as the first episode.
And what a great decision the latter turned out to be.
Thank god it didn't turn out like both pilots for The Backyardigans and the Blue's Clues Pilot, Blue Prints.
Hillenburg is one of the greatest people in the animation industry. Happy birthday Stephen. You bought joy to the world by creating one of the greatest cartoon characters of all time. A sponge who lives in a pineapple called Spongebob.

I dunno, but having a land creature in a show that takes place underwater certainly is interesting!
Not sure why he chose a Squirrel, but what I do know is that Sandy was first introduced to be SpongeBob’s girlfriend

It's amazing seeing the basic concepts for some of the early episodes, some weren't even used until season 3!
Missing Identity was one of them. That episode was released during the near end of Season 3!
Yooo, I bet animation and Spongebob fans must be rejoicing at this discovery! It's wholesome, since it's almost like fhe new discoveries in the gaming community, like with the lost Gameboy Color add on, or hard evidence that Luigi was supposed to be in Super Mario 64

If Plankton was born in 1961 according to his early license, that means he is currently about 60 years old.
Which technically makes Mr. Krabs around 60 as well.
So then...how old is Krabs'pirate captain father? 80? 90? Possibly 100?
Mr Krabs was born in the 40's I believe, at least according to the old episode. Then that would actually make Plankton younger than Mr. Krabs. Oh and I think Plankton would've been 38 years old by the time of his introduction.

Before Mr. Hillenburg was an animator he was a marine biologist. He got to things he loved and made the world happy. I am happy and grateful to have lived in the same time as Stephen Hillenburg.

You know, I've been shipping Spandy ever since I became a huge fan of the show (Even then, I remember the song from Ripped Pants feeling romantic, and that was even before I show actual interest in the show), and hoped with all the false hope and dreamed they would somehow end up together eventually, and the fact that they were supposed to be a couple really validate my childhood dream.
Then again, I guess it's a good thing they're not an actual couple in the show, the show will never end and besides, it's much fun to speculate rather than seeing them as an actual couple, that's how it keeps my shipping fuel continuing ironically.

This is amazing! As a longtime SpongeBob fan, I remember seeing some early concept art in old Nickelodeon magazines but this is all new to us. Stephen Hillenburg's style always reminded me of Dr. Seuss. Watch "Green Beret" and you'll know what I mean. RIP Stephen, your artistic legacy lives on.

Its so weird to think that I was 8 years old when Spongebob came out. I still remember the day 1 premiere like it was yesterday, Late 90s early 2000s Nick was Peak Nickelodeon.
Also another weird thing to think about I grew up on spongebob in the 2000s then theres kids who grew up on spongebob in the 2010s and now we have a 3rd generation growing up on Spongebob in the 2020s Man im getting old

What I liked most about SpongeBob is that he always tries to see the bright side of everything. The show shows that different kinds of people (sea life) are all living together. They might not always get along but it works. If we could all be like SpongeBob, The world would be a better place.

Happy 60th, Stephen! Sadly, you didn’t go on to make more original works but that’s what made Spongebob so special in our hearts. If you were still alive you would’ve prevented Nick from making Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show since you have no plan for a spinoff. Other than the Paramount Plus commercials for the big game, it would be even better if Sweet Victory did play during halftime. I bet Sweet Victory was the only reason people watched Super Bowl 2019. The NFL probably had it coming when fans were expecting the aforementioned song to honor you the whole time.

You know I kind of gave up watching Spongebob for a while now. I don't know why I guess I just lost interest in the show. However looking at this pitch bible made me want to rewatch the old episodes again. I absolutely love looking into the Spongebob pitch bible and seeing some of the lost episodes.
