Listening to you hate on the books to the same levels at which they enrage me is so inexplicably soothing lol

Omg yes, I don't like this book either😭😭 "She just wrote this for the vibe," "There is no plot," Factsssss. Like why did they spend half the book being like "oh no, someone has to die" "one of us is gonna die" "btw, in case u didn't know, someone dies, what're we gonna do" "u mean someone has to die? *gasp*" Like it was so boringgg

Yes! Another review from Sophie! 🤩 Your brutal reviews speak to my mean side. I shouldn't enjoy listening to how you tear bad plots and characters into pieces but it's a guilty pleasure of mine. Probably because I have to deal with bad writers and their egos often enough, but I have to be nice to their face, so listening to you is a bit like getting revenge.

This book was the first book in a long time that I've actually given up on halfway. I just could not STAND how TERRIBLE these characters were.

I read the had-an-editor version, and I _still_ wanted to slap every single character for being tiresome halfway through the book. If I wanted to spend more time with insufferable, pretentious people, I would have put more effort into staying in grad school.

i had to dnf this book towards the end i was so sick of how nothing was happening for the majority of the book. the start was reallyy promising too i feel bamboozled. also the power system made no sense.

I read this book back when it still had only a few hundred ratings on Goodreads, soon after people on book Twitter started talking about it. I remember feeling crazy because I didn't like it like most people seemed to 💀The "plot" was confusing and the characters were pretentitous af.

Thank you, it was so hard to understand what was going on and why, half of the time...I was wondering if maybe I'm the dumb one...but it turns out, this really IS very badly written. By the way, I read the version that had an editor work on it, and it really isn't better at all.

Libby is a really common nickname for Elizabeth. Less so now than it used to be but still common enough, especially in South USA.

I actually really liked this book, but then you know I like pretentious dark academia things. Pretentious YA contemporary on the other hand, like John Green for example, get the f out of here. I recently re-read the fault in our stars and it was a mistake. Really don't do that if you value your sanity.

I loved your explanations hahah you're so funny! I hated this pretentious ass book and the banal caricature characters (vapid femme fatal, book nerd, token shy asian, meanie mean white guy, token brown guy, another white guy b/ god forbid we have more than one brown guy) no plot, pretentious ass writing. I have no idea what others see in this or why they would want to read book 2 of this torture.

I'm at like page 280 and I swear to god, I might still change my mind, sometimes towards the end I do, but I doubt it. This book thinks is 100 times cooler than it actually is, 300 times smarter than it actually is and thinks its characters are 6000 times more badass, cunning and manipulative than they actually are. This book is wordy, pretentious, does not deliver on its premise, and is the worst thing I've read ever since ACOWAR. And believe me when I tell you I hated that book with all of my being. The shipping? What shipping? Everyone is either fucking, manipulating each other or complaining. There's no connection, so there's no feelings. The only character I like is Libby and that's because I relate to her on quite a few aspects, but I like characters I don't relate to also, so why are the rest so unbelievably annoying or cringey? Nico's side plot was the goofiest thing imaginable and his whole deal with Gideon is by far the corniest, cringiest most uninspiring romantic relationship I've seen in a while. Nothing beats ACOTAR in that, but it gets real close. (Or SJM in general anyway, but I'm starting to think nicogideon is *that* bad, I might be biased because I wanted an enemies to lovers, but it doesn't change that their relationship is corny as fuck and I don't care about his character anyway)
Nothing about this book is interesting, it's so surface level and it thinks it's so deep. This books problem is that it thinks too highly of itself, comically enough just like these students think they're all good enough to get into Alexandria, when they're not.

Okay I’m on page 91 so there’s been one scene with Gideon and Nico and so I might just be insane but I swear the romantic tension between those two is astronomical? Am I insane? Does the author somehow manage to ruin so far the only thing about this god forsaken book that’s making me root for anyone?

I’ve barely started this book and I can already see I have the same problem with it that I had with Evelyn Hugo, the characters are written horribly and kinda stereotypically, if the book is going to be pretentious it could at least have interesting characters to back it up, but these characters seem basic to me

I got 70% of the way through the book and then I DNF'd. I don't understand peoples book recommendations now, its seems like there is no substance. All of the characters are horrible and I hate them all. Nothing happens, and then there is a threesome which seems entirely out of no where.
