really good video did you ever narrow it down to the cause of why it was so difficult to start and stay running my son's bike does pretty much same thing it's a little moto bike with the same motor as you got but I can get it to start and he can ride it for like 30 seconds and it bogs down and eventually quits and then won't start back for a little bit. Any advice would be appreciated thanks
Sounds like carb problem check the bottom where float is and the jet in there. I had a similar problem and found dirt in there cleaned it out now runs awesome
Excelent educational shooting. Did you find out what was the main reason for the bad starting? I am rebuilding the same kind engine, which has been stopped for several years.
Try the fule valve mod he did on the carburetor. If it has the 4 way rubber gasket on the inside it is just a very bad design and creates a vacuum lock where fule can not flow .
I can confirm about the fuel line valve. My kid had a similar problem. The bike would run for about a minute and then stop (right before stopping, it would rev by itself for a second). I found that the screws holding the front plate of the valve were too tight and fuel flow was bad. The bike would empty the carburetor faster than the fuel could come in, and that is why it was reving before it shut down - there was more air than fuel in the carb. Unscrewed the bolts for 1/4 turn and the bike worked normally ever since. I turned the valve off and cleaned the carb for the winter and when turned the valve on again yesterday. It started leaking fuel as hell. It stopped once the rubber got greased by 2 stroke oil. This valve is a nightmare. I think I will also do the same mod like Tino... Also, guys, what mix ratio do you use on those bikes? By the book it should be 4%, but there is so much smoke and oil residue in the exhaust that the bike will stall in a minute or so if left idling. What oil and what mix ratio do you guys use?
@@Rakija_ShliwowitzHELLO yes, that is very true but i never got it down to that conclusion, i just ordered a brand new carb off Amazon and i’ll do the fuel tap mod. do you know what size drill bit i will need?
I did the mod a few days ago. I think i used a 3 or 3.5mm bit, but am not sure. I checked which bit goes through the outlet and did not check the size. One more sugestion, drill from the bottom (carburetor side). The bottom opening seems a bit smaller and if you open it too much, the gasket will not fit. The hole can be smaller without it obstructing the flow. Basically, when you dissasemble the valve, the bit must be at least the size of the holes in the rubber. Hope this helps.
You tuned that bike wonderfully. Throttle response was nice!
