Very nice video, and informative narration of the Basin. I do this hike almost annually, but much later in the summer. The water taxi and restaurant have been closed since 2017. The winter snow storms of that year did a tremendous amount of damage up there, also impacting Tioga Resort, which closed for major repairs as a result of that heavy snow year. This area is a gem of the Eastern Sierra. I’m glad too that you pointed out that the trailhead elevation is 10,000 plus feet above sea-level... just as you step out from your vehicle!!!
Active Tours, I would have to say that one of my top/favorite trails is Tongariro Alpine Crossing, North Island, New Zealand. Had plans to be down there during April of this year, however the pandemic canceled that adventure. Hopefully, travel to NZ will resume by early next year. The 7 Lakes Basin Loop in Washington is awesome too, but I would only recommend trekking here during late Spring or early Fall - to avoid crowds and bugs! Looking forward to your Duck Pass video 👊😎...
Cool! Yes, I love that hike. I did the whole 4 day trek but the crossing is by far the best!!! About a decade ago I solo cycled NZ from top to bottom. I also recommend the Kepler Trek on the South Island.
Active Tours, my 2020 Kiwi trip would have included 10 weeks in total there. I had no specific itinerary upon arrival. I had planned to arrive in Christchurch, pick up a Sprinter van there, and then travel and explore not yet visited destinations throughout both the North and South islands. Prior to returning home, I also had a full week scheduled in Fiji. The trip is still on the books. Hopefully, I’ll get this checked-off during the same timeframe next year.
During the time of this video, Saddlebag lake store was up for sale. This is why taxi and rental boats were not in operation. Also the campground was and still is closed as well. Hopefully that will be changing soon.
Is the water taxi running in early September and if not how long is the hike to Shamrock and back on west side trail...thanks, great video !!!! Will go in early Sept 2025
Hey great video. But if I may I would suggest that you consider not building carins in the wildeeness. Carins are not natural and do not belong in wilderness. #keepitwild #leavenotrace. Dont worry ill knock them down next time on the trail.😀 again great video. I love this hike and all the lakes up there. #afan
Happy you enjoyed the video. You can find the route map here. Hope you enjoy the trail! activetours.com/north-america/united-states/california/20-lakes-basin-trail-loop/
@Kyle Dong hmm conflicting info here on the forest service website www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/inyo/recreation/recarea/?recid=20652&actid=51. Looks like you do need one for the Hoover wilderness. But if you camp before greenstone lake you don’t. Hope that helps.
I lived and worked in Yosemite for 6 years and spent every weekend in the summer and fished Saddlebag all the time.

Great video! Went there last year and left early bc of heavy smoke. Hoping to backpack sometime this year. Thanks for sharing 😊
Good tips
Oh and in Sept 2021 the water taxi was open for $5 per person and dog friendly!
Are you a time traveler?
Oops lol Sept 2020**
TY!

Great info and review of the area. We did a day hike last September just before all the fires broke out. Next trip will have to be backpacking.
Great video! I also subscribedto your channel. Question, was the trail extremely tough to the falls or just to lundy lake?

@@Active_Tours Thanks. I've been reading that you need to obtain a permit for this trail, but your blog says you don't?
