You never know, sometimes setbacks are what actually propel you forward. You two are so strong and resilient, it’s a pleasure to watch how you problem solve. Merry Christmas and I hope you can enjoy a little break 🎄
Don’t underestimate the costs and time involved in clearing trees (including root systems) putting in drainage, then waiting for the land to drain and dry. You could buy a ready built bespoke camper for the money you would invest in a land project including planning, building, services and taxes.
What about power, drainage and water? Two shipping containers and a container shelter between the two. Secure, sturdy and definitely future rentable to others wanting to follow you. There's definitely a need for shelters for boat, caravan, truck, motorhome repairs. Sound investments.
It's true... I think we have a lot more bracing to do yet. We want to form crosses by going in the opposite direction along the outside, and we need to add some support between the roof and the legs too. And it all needs welding ideally.
Nice recuperation after the disaster! Congrats on the creative solution. Fingers crossed you find something a bit more to your liking so you can continue doing the work under cover.
an amazing vlog guys so happy to see you get back from storm darragh and that moose is going to be in a new safe home for the coming year the first 3 months are meant to be a very harsh time in 2025 i want to wish you all a very wonderful Christmas.
Hi guys. So nice to see how you continue planning for the future, I think it will be an eventful year 2025 for you and us followers, hope you have a nice Christmas and a happy new year. A big hug from me to both of you. Best regards Lasse 🎄🎅🍾🥂
Ingenious idea to reuse the poles from the marquis and build shed 2.0 with the remnants. Love the enthusiasm and how nothing seems to faze you both. Thanks again for the video and hope you have a wonderful Christmas time. I've joined you as a paid Patreon subscriber because I wanted to have all the benefits in time for Christmas 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Peace
Good luck finding land. Having the space to put a container to store tools / materials and attach a modified 'tent / shed' to would really help you. Please make sure you attach the OSB securely to form a roof - it could cause a lot more damage in the next storm than the fabric cover that just flapped around. If you can screw / bolt through strips of metal (the galvanised building straps with lots of holes is what I'm thinking of, though you may have something suitable), then have metal straps round the poles to sandwich the OSB between 2 layers of metal (perhaps with large washers to spread the load so the heads / nuts don't put through) then it should stay on in the next '100 year storm', which is probably next week, given our weather recently! Best of luck in your hunt!
I'm fairly sure (as you don't need to follow the tachograph rules as your truck is not a goods vehicle) that you don't need to find land that would be suitable for an operators license (for info / interest, goods vehicles can't park anywhere, they are managed by an operator under a licence which specifies the location of their home base where they are expected to be parked). The 2nd place you looked at would probably qualify as suitable given there are industrial units nearby. An area where there are industrial activities could be useful though as it will avoid the worry about making too much noise for your neighbours
LIke the idea of a smaller structure but ... its way too flimsy. Don't underestimate how much damage a buffeting wind can cause. Welds break and poles eventually flex and bend. Sadly the through holes are a weak point now. If I were making a temporary structure I'd shop around for scafolding poles and planks. Way stronger and these could then be sold off later when the project is finished. Good luck with the search for a new home.
Oh no we know how strong the wind is, check out our previous video 😅. We did look into renting scaffolding initially but it was crazy expensive. Maybe we could buy the parts but we’re trying to use what we’ve got for now.
Nice recovery folks and great use of the remaining kit. you could perhaps think about putting a gallows bracket at 45 degrees from the roof bars to the side poles to stiffen side to side flex. Very best of luck with the land hunting. Merry Christmas to you both
Thank you - definite yes to gallows brackets. I talked Pete out of adding them in favour of ratchet straps but that's 2 against 1 now, so I guess we're doing both 😂 Merry Christmas 🎄
@@RoadToOffGrid Lol good viewpoint there Hayley, but theres no right or wrong with this... it's you folks project and we just offer opinions and so far you have a great track record of making the right choices Stay safe
Where you have put them strengthenings at either end of the apex of the roof you should also do the same where the uprights meet the roof with the tubing flattened at either end that would stiffen up the sway even more.
Glad your 'ok' after that storm . We have a small farm in shropshire and small bits of land are horrendous in price because people buy to build on . Ag prices with us are £9500 an acre but seen 1/4 acre and less been advertised for 30k . Its madness and makes poeple like your selves so difficult just to have your own little bit . Good luck there will be somerhing out there just takes time to appear
How long would £15k get you in a proper workshop, with heat, electric, water etc? You could finish Moose out fully maybe. With all the extra time available, you could be surprised how little time it could take guy's.
Well done for being totally undaunted by your difficulties, but I must say that I am getting a depressing deja-vue feeling watching you build your mini workshop using what appears to be largely the same materials.which were, by your own admission, so thin they were hardly fit for purpose. Fixing OSB to the roof will add a lot of weight that the structure was never designed to accommodate. So good luck you two adventurers and have a very happy holiday - if indeed you allow yourselves that luxury! You epitomise the generation that kept calm and carried on, so I'm sure you will win eventually!
Thanks 😃 We will keep adding more bracing and stronger stuff from the old horsebox and Pete wants to do some welding on it too, then we'll see. We aren't totally convinced about the OSB yet either so if worst comes to worst, we'll have a tarp that gets put up when it's rainy and taken down before we go home 👍
Hi is there anything on anything on any of the gov land,army/navy/raf there are lots of hangers that they have split up and rented out,no idea how to contact them, when i was working in the uk had lots of small biz on them.
It's a great idea - We were quoted £7000 ex. VAT for 6 months for scaffolding with a tin roof - We would rather wait for indoor space than pay £1400 per month!
I had a dream last night that I found you a very tall garage and the lady said you could use it, if only dreams came true, well done for getting back into it :)
. If you have any spare metal would it be worth adding some extra bracing from the upright legs to the roof poles? Triangulate the corners. Good luck with tent v2.0
@RoadToOffGrid the wood will be weighty. If you have enough of the old marque covering can you double up ? Being lower than before hopefully the truck trailer might help hide some wind? Good luck
Potentially. We want to be really cautious and we're quite nervous about having a permanent roof again that can go unsupervised. Our tall version wasn't even as tall as the trailer, that thing is huge! The wind coming up from under the trailer was our downfall last time as it snatched the tarp up from below 😣
You only need the accommodation for a year to do the truck. Buying land could take 6 months even if you find the right place where all you kit won't be stolen during the first month so stop wasting your time on that idea. Get your arses into gear, rent a short term workshop and then crack on with the build. Faffing about with yet another home-made temporary structure in a weather prone boatyard when you've already wasted a grand or two on the first pile of crap you built is yet another distraction. I make no apology for being so harsh in my criticism. You two are both faffers - get a grip, focus on the truck build and get it done.
If I could find a workshop near us I would! At the moment we have two choices, do nothing while we look for somewhere or do something so we can work on the truck while we look around.
You never know, sometimes setbacks are what actually propel you forward. You two are so strong and resilient, it’s a pleasure to watch how you problem solve.
Merry Christmas and I hope you can enjoy a little break 🎄
You guys have picked yourself up and remain so positive. Well done
We try our best 😁 Thank you!

What a team you are! We all know you’ll get to where you want to go. Really enjoyed this week’s episode 😊 happy christmas to both of you!
What about power, drainage and water?

Hi from Australia
I hope the tea station survived the storm. 😊
Tip: If you connect the braces they can give forces through each other. Now they are all separate. It could be more efficient.
Thanks for the tip!
Put the center diagonal the other way
Those diagonal braces need to be alternate not all slanting the same way . 👍
It's true... I think we have a lot more bracing to do yet. We want to form crosses by going in the opposite direction along the outside, and we need to add some support between the roof and the legs too. And it all needs welding ideally.
@ can I ask where you look for land for sale please ?
Nice recuperation after the disaster! Congrats on the creative solution. Fingers crossed you find something a bit more to your liking so you can continue doing the work under cover.
wish you all the best who has the C1 living on the road will be a lot more streess than looking at land have a good xmass xxx

Thank you ☺️
Great job on getting back on track
Thank you 🙏
wow, RESPECT for your work- and not-giving-up attitude, you youngster sure learn me a lesson or two .😉
Haha thanks! I doubt we’d be so enthusiastic with out you all watching!
Merry Christmas keep driving forward love the positive thinking ❤
Thank you! You too! 💚🎄
Don't forget the tea box

Cross bracing is ok but x bracing much more stable 😊😊😊😊
Merry Christmas and hopefully a Happy New Year to you both
Same to you, Al! All the best 💚

Check ''garaże blaszane'' in Poland, in here it's the cheepest way to have your own garage. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

You're right - we need to work out clearance for the cab but it's unlikely that the structure can handle the weight of the roof without more bracing 👍
The ones left with trees check to see if you are allowed to cut any down 👍

If we could find a proper workshop, we'd tell you! 😅 We'd love to find one and we will keep looking 👍
YEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Buying on alibaba entails shipping costs, export fees and vat and import duty in the U.K. costs can double what you start with.
Yeah all in all it would be around £5k after import. Not bad but the wait is ages and it might not even be suitable for where we are
Well done for being totally undaunted by your difficulties, but I must say that I am getting a depressing deja-vue feeling watching you build your mini workshop using what appears to be largely the same materials.which were, by your own admission, so thin they were hardly fit for purpose. I would be buying and mounting a body on that then your time could be spent inside in bad weather and outside in good weather
Not really what we had in mind as we want to build our own. We have quite a specific design in mind. But a good idea nonetheless
If you buye this land. Shipping container use on the lond
Hi is there anything on anything on any of the gov land,army/navy/raf there are lots of hangers that they have split up and rented out,no idea how to contact them, when i was working in the uk had lots of small biz on them.
That’s a great idea thanks I’ll look into that!
Can ya not get some scaffolding done with a metal roof and some sheeting like the do when there building houses when they take roof off... just a fort
It's a great idea - We were quoted £7000 ex. VAT for 6 months for scaffolding with a tin roof - We would rather wait for indoor space than pay £1400 per month!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍👍👍👍👍👍

I wouldn't waste the building thing again looks like flimsy as aluminium. Is the land for your project thought need bigger .
It’s galvanised steel I think. Hopefully it’ll stiffen up even more when the roofs on. It’s al we’ve got atm hopefully something will come along soon.
cant u buy a sea container ?
We'd love to but we have nowhere to put one. We only have a small area - just big enough for the truck. We'll keep looking though!
. If you have any spare metal would it be worth adding some extra bracing from the upright legs to the roof poles? Triangulate the corners.
Good luck with tent v2.0
Definitely, we have lots of metal left - we're still worried about the weight of the wood on top so that should help a lot 👍
@RoadToOffGrid the wood will be weighty. If you have enough of the old marque covering can you double up ? Being lower than before hopefully the truck trailer might help hide some wind? Good luck
