This video can easily be used to train the mechanics for Mercedes-Benz. From the clarity of the steps to the quality of the light in the picture. This is truly old school. Reminds me of my Grandpa and my father working on car. We need to bring back this multi skill talented people.
Very helpful. One note for followers. Note the technique he uses to remove the coil connector. It's SUBTLE! Once you pull out the grey lock... you need to push DOWN on the end of it (quite a bit) to actually release the mechanism and allow the connector to just slip off by pushing with another screw driver. I unfortunately didn't notice this until I had broken a connector. Not bad enough to be unusable but still broken. If you do it right the connector just slips right off.
You made this look easy. Just changed mine today and for those of you who have large hands like mine, the support for the wires comes off via removal of a torx screw and the other portion comes off the carriage just low of the coils. Makes life a little bit easier. Good video.
Hi Senior Leigh and to all your subscribers . So i remember a while back I was suppose to let you and the group know if I was successful in installing new timing chain rattle kit for my 2012 Mercedes E300 M276 engine. Thanks to all the pdf you have on your website I got the job done. I know how to set the engine timing completely . I installed updated tensioners , check valves and new camshaft solenoids on my engine. I did also check all my cam shaft actuators and they are good none was slipping and spewing oil from the front so that was great. My car sounds beautiful now all the rattling i heard is gone. If later on one my cam shaft actuator goes i will attempt that job myself and let you know. I am even more in love with my car now . I really want to thank you for the information you sent me your an angel sent from the skies I just want to thank you.

Thank you for posting this video. Will attempt the spark plug swap this week. Have read conflicting information regarding if I need to index or not index spark plugs. What is your opinion on this?
Thanks, and in my opinion, the index spark plugs are the old school. And now the ignite spark energy is much more stronger than before, the indexing is not necessary for the modern engine. Also the Mercedes must be considered the best way to optimize the engine. The index is always the right things to do, but I think the benefit is too small to be ignored. I'm happy u like my video. The documents were pulled from the WIS of the Mercedes diagnosis system (I purchased on ebay.to/2NlYWWO). For the spark plug socket, don't worry, that is 14mm 12 points socket is fit Bosch spark plugs of Mercedes, due to almost all of the vehicles were made in Germany using bosch speak plugs.

ECU does not have any torque bit, it held by 4 rubber grommet. You can just pull the ECU from bottom and it will lift up. Torque bits you need E10 - Engine Air Filter. E8 - Spark plugs ignition coil. T25 - Remove the Bracket on the driver side to give you some room. Hope this help. Warning, don't try this job without the spark plug removal tool shown here. You will regret if you do. It's very helpful video for DIY, should I replace the Spark plugs and the Ignition coil ? my 2014 E350 has 62,524 miles, rough Idle. Please advice, thanks
Thanks. I subscribe to your channel. Very good video edit. I have the same car and motor and i love this being my first Mercedes. I thought that you have to remove the intake plenum as ive seen on some video's. But this save me time and money. Thanks. Cant wait for your next video sir!
MR2DSP You’re welcome. The repairing booklet of Mercedes only a reference. I have broken twice of the repairing guide, last time was “replacing ball joint boot of control arm instead replacing whole control arm”. See my earlier video.
MR2DSP Almost same mileage with my 2013 E350. The spark plug replacing requirement for 6 years or 60,000 miles of all modern Mercedes on the maintenance booklet what is working with iridium spark plugs. So I think that’s time to replace them.
Great Video SL. I was thinking about replacing spark plugs and intake plenum gasket at the same time, but after watching your video and others youtubers trying to take intake manifold out I prefer your method better if intake plenum gasket does not need to be replaced. At what mileage do we need to replace the gasket? 2014 W212 65,000mls
Hi Senior so I got my Coils and spark plugs changed. I followed the procedure you have on pdf and all went great car feels more quicker and smoother thanks for the great help. I may undertake a next late summer or Fall project and thats to install rattle kit that mercedes recommended . I am looking for info on how to have engine set at right timing positon. Can you post something on websit so i can read up a bit about the procedure?
Hi Senior Leigh so i did the intake Plenium manifold change and it went excellent. You are correct i did not have to disconnect battery i just kept the key atleast 200m away from the car. The procedure you posted is excellent thank. I will attempt the timing chain tensioners and check valve . I hope i set the timing right before i remove tensioner. I may have a hard time getting the tool to press check valve in its pretty hard to get i heard.
You have got to be kidding me....you didn't take off the intake manifold?I've watched videos before and they took off a bunch of crap....including me and here comes this guy and he makes it look like a piece of 🎂....wish I had seen this video before
i dont have the spark plug boot removal pliers, you think it would be okay to perform the job? outstanding video btw. i love watching ur vids after my daughter goes to sleep
I'm happy you like my video. And say hello to your daughter for me. For Spark Plug boot Removal Plier, I strongly recommend purchasing one. Considering the ignition coils have sat the position 6 years, the boot holds the spark plug tail pretty tight, they never separated since 6 years ago, LOL. Also, the ignition coil is more expensive than the plier. When you pull them off with strength continuously instead of suddenly to avoid breaking the ignition. At the last make sure the ignition coil seat correct position to firmly connect to the connector of the spark plug. If there has abnormal vibration with the engine while you start the engine, there must be an ignition coil connected incorrectly. Don't worry, connect it again. Replacing the spark plug is not a difficult job, just patient, Good luck!
A very well produced video, thanks! I ran into a problem that maybe someone can help me with. On cylinder #6, the coil boot separated from the ignition coil when I tried to remove it using the Lisle tool. Now the boot is stuck to the spark plug and when I tried to pull it out, the hard tab broke off. How do I get the boot off? Can I spray Kroil or WD-40 directly into the top of the boot where I can see the metal contact and hope the oil gets to the plug?
The 6th spark plug is the most difficult to remove. That must be sucked too tight with spark plug and the boot. I think you can fill the WD40 into the hole of spark plug, and wait a couple of hours. Let the WD-40 sock into the gap. That would be easy pull the boot out.
Hello, Great video, best I have seen. What is the torque specs for the plugs and coil packs. I didn't see it in the information that was listed. Thanks in advance
Thank you so much for this video! Completed this job today, unfortunately one of the ignition coil bolts slipped out of my hands and is somewhere in the engine. Do you happen to have a part number?
Very nice! There are very few good videos on YT for the M276 engine. Please consider doing one on replacing the water pump of this engine. I cannot find any video on that, yet it is a procedure that sooner or later will be necessary (I need to do it on mine). I hear that it is necessary to remove the intake manifold. Thank you for your many great videos.
I'm happy you like my video. And I scheduled to replace the ATF of the 7G transmission next week. For water pump replacing, if you have to replace it I can send you the replacing guide what I pull out from Mercedes repairing booklet.
Senior Leigh, thank you very much for your offer to send me the guide for replacing the water pump! I will take you up on it. How can we go about doing that? Thanks again.
Hi Senior Leigh. Quick question if you dont mind. Did you have to reflash the computer when you removed. I would like to replace my plugs this weekend however nervous as I have been told I may need to have it reflashed due to removal.... thanks for your help and the very helpful videos for us.
Cory Machell as my understanding, you mean the ECU removing, depends on MB WIS, there is no re-flashing needed after disconnecting and connecting the ECU. If that’s necessary, that would increase workload for workshop, no, MB won’t do that. Thanks your compliment as well❤️
No necessary to disconnect the cable of battery. Let's imagine that the ECU do not know anything what we did after switching off the ignition. Any error code is stored by our mistake of the operating after engine running, even we disconnect the cable of battery before we replacing the spark plugs.

Can you please do a video plenum removal thank you so much. Hopefully on a W212.
Senior Leigh I need your help, I bought a used a w212 m276 and kind of regret it I always buy lexus or toyota and this is my first mercedes, the check engine light comes on and goes away for last few days I first changed the oil, air filter, cleaned throttle body, last time the check engine light came on and car was misfiring while i was driving so I pulled over and with obd scanner cleared the code for misfire cynlder 6 and it went away and its ok for a few days but im nervous to drive it do you think its the plugs or coil or something else? I am waiting for it to come back before i start repairs
Easiest way to find if it’s ignition coil to interchange ignition coil from 5-6 cylinder and see if you can replicate the issue on cylinder 5. As you can see cylinder 5 & 6 is the most toughest, I would suggest to buy 1 ignition coil for cylinder 6. I saw the same issue you are having with same engine for other people and it’s most likely spark plug not the ignition coil. Hope this helps
Do u know why 2016 Mercedes Ben m276 oil leak out from oil filler cap I went n buy New cap from the dealer still leaking out please help if u can thanks you.😊
Hi Senior Leigh does the Pdf documents you purchase from ebay give you details of doing the job your performing and can i purchase software separate without scanner?
Thanks for your video today I was changing my C350 spark plugs M276 engine but unfortunately I was broken my spark plugs coil I'm going to MB bought another coil $118 Canadian Dollar . I'm so sad about that.
Sorry to hear that. But I think you just have broken the coil boot, so no necessary buy the entire coil, just a coil boot can fix it. Like this amzn.to/3mrxJkq, the part number is 2761590042. That's cheap away from the entire coil.
Mr. Leigh, you removed a small bracket right after you removed the module, correct? This is attached to the large bracket, right? I did this job and couldn't figure out how it detached, and had to unbolt the large bracket near the front.
@senior Leigh, what kind of grease do you apply to some of the conectors? Is that dielectric grease? Based on some info I read dielectric grease is bad conductor
@@cesarbojorquez7418 I saw. I used to research many discussion about the dielectric grease. In my opinion, there is not forbidden to apply it to the contact area at the direction of the dielectric grease. And I also found there was filled full of dielectric grease in the connector of the ECU. So I think those worries are unnecessary, just use it and rigid free.
I think that's hard to find a replacement. If I were you I might raise the front of the car and remove the bottom panel, the clip must on the panel. 😄 😂
Without saying a word, this made more sense to me than any other video.

What torque bit did you use when you used it to take of the engine computer
ECU does not have any torque bit, it held by 4 rubber grommet. You can just pull the ECU from bottom and it will lift up. Torque bits you need E10 - Engine Air Filter. E8 - Spark plugs ignition coil. T25 - Remove the Bracket on the driver side to give you some room. Hope this help. Warning, don't try this job without the spark plug removal tool shown here. You will regret if you do. Happy wrenching...
It's very helpful video for DIY, should I replace the Spark plugs and the Ignition coil ? my 2014 E350 has 62,524 miles, rough Idle. Please advice, thanks
The spark plugs should be replaced every 60k miles or 6 years; the ignition coil can last lifetime until it’s damaged.
@@LeighSr I have 52 k miles on my 2013 e350 sport should I replace the plugs at this Miles ?
MR2DSP Almost same mileage with my 2013 E350. The spark plug replacing requirement for 6 years or 60,000 miles of all modern Mercedes on the maintenance booklet what is working with iridium spark plugs. So I think that’s time to replace them.
I had a W210 E320 V6, my mechanic bought it off me and he still has it (23 years old!). It had twin sparks so come changing time had to buy 12 plugs.
Yeah, that’s true.
Thank you! Very helpful information.
Thanks for your praise! In my opinion, the gasket no necessary to replace unless you take out the intake plenum.
Best I have ever seen
Wonderful video thank you
Hi Senior so I got my Coils and spark plugs changed.
Not a problem. And we might discuss the details on the forum of leighsr.come
@@LeighSr yes sounds good am doing the tensioner ,idle pulleys and serpentine belt this weekend i will let you know how its all work out.
Well done. Thumbs up. 👍🔧
A very good quality of the video. It takes some skill to make a video like this. What camera was used to make this video?
Thank you, and my camera including DSLR, GoPro, and camcorder.
@@LeighSr I forgot to mention editing too. Thank you
@@janveit2226 I use FCPX for editing.
@@LeighSr Thank you
A very well produced video, thanks!
@@LeighSr Thank you for the reply.
Hello,
Great video, best I have seen. What is the torque specs for the plugs and coil packs. I didn't see it in the information that was listed.
Thanks in advance
Chris Juhl thank you and the torque specs were showed at 48” and 1’06”. That’s 23Nm and 9Nm. More details I will upload to Leigh’s.com
Thank you so much for this video! Completed this job today, unfortunately one of the ignition coil bolts slipped out of my hands and is somewhere in the engine. Do you happen to have a part number?
2761590042 is the part number.

Are you indexing the plugs?
Hi Senior Leigh. Quick question if you dont mind. Did you have to reflash the computer when you removed. I would like to replace my plugs this weekend however nervous as I have been told I may need to have it reflashed due to removal.... thanks for your help and the very helpful videos for us.
Cory Machell as my understanding, you mean the ECU removing, depends on MB WIS, there is no re-flashing needed after disconnecting and connecting the ECU. If that’s necessary, that would increase workload for workshop, no, MB won’t do that. Thanks your compliment as well❤️
@@LeighSr you are right. Forget being nervous and just do it. Thanks again. You are a great help.
This dude was about to commit suicide in his garage 😂. Just kidding. Great Video!

Wat about indexing spark plugs on this engine m276 ? Thanku senior leigh
ECU
Did you have to unplug the battery at all before you started? I don't want any codes showing up after I change the plugs.
No necessary to disconnect the cable of battery. Let's imagine that the ECU do not know anything what we did after switching off the ignition. Any error code is stored by our mistake of the operating after engine running, even we disconnect the cable of battery before we replacing the spark plugs.
very good video

Hi thank you for the video, what is the torque value for the spark plug?
23Nm that’s required by Bosch and Mercedes.

@senior Leigh what’s the torque specs for the spark plugs?
