    For a DIY buff who enjoys working on cars/engines, I’ll first thank for this video which was my best reference to replace the plugs on my 2016 E550 with its twin turbo V8. For anyone else thinking of doing it: it’s a ++ challenge w/o the proper tools. You have to have the correct size magnetic spark plug pivoting socket plus the long handled coil pliers. Even then there’s very little room to access the coils/plugs closest to the engine firewall, making those 2 on either side the most difficult to work on. I used “clunky thick round head” ratchets (alternating between 1/4 and 3/8 drives) and would have done better with the thinner ratchet heads shown in the video. But using the recommended pliers, I still tore apart the tubing on both ignition coils located closest to the firewall, since it was so awkward to leverage the pliers to pull the ignition coils out, with so little room. I’ll see if I can replace only that tubing but if not, I’ll buy 2 new ignition coils. So definitely not an easy DIY job and something to keep in mind, especially if you’ll suffer w/o a workable vehicle while waiting to get (for example) replacement ignition coils.

      Just back from my Mercedes dealer. They sell the "boot" that connect to the spark plug, so I didn't have to buy the entire ignition coil. As well, I'm told their techs have an off-set torx E8 socket which allows them to reach the bolt head connecting the ignition coil nearest the firewall, which makes it ++ easier to access that bolt head. Always pays to have the right tools. Finally, I'm told I should have warmed up the engine (just enough so it wasn't too hot to work on) and doing that would have made it less likely that I would have torn the ignition coil boot when trying to detach it from the spark plug. I thought a cold engine was the way to go (to avoid expanded parts) but that's the exact opposite of what I needed. A few additional points for anyone doing this job. Good luck!

    Great DIY! Just did the spark plugs on my 2012 E550 and used this as a reference. I pulled the ignition coils while the motor was hot/warm, then waited for the motor to cool to torque the new plugs. I didn't break any coils and they came off with ease. On my tuned car with 60k miles it definetely needed a change. Thank you for the detailed video!

    Awesome video, I just ordered everything I need for this. I have question, I see grime build up on my front timing chain covers (left and right) I was told I just need to reseal them soon before they start to leak. Have you done this procedure?

    • @LeighSr
      @LeighSr  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks, hope you have a smoothly process with replace the spark plugs. For the tiny leaky of the timing chain covers, I don’t think that’s necessary to reseal it because that’s a bit high risk task for applying the liquid sealer on the surface of the parts. That tiny leak won’t lead to big leaks. The resealing might mess up the seals if you are not a experienced technician. But if you need a guide to do that, I can publish the WIS of the procedure on www.leighsr.com/forum.

      解决的方式很简单,拔掉那个solenoid的插头,如果还不能解决,那就是你的solenoid卡住了,需要拿出来清洁之后再放回去
