I took myself out on my first solo “date” in my early 20’s. It felt weird at first, but it became necessary to push myself to be comfortable alone more so in public, I’m an introvert too. I had a 4 course meal that day and it was glorious. I encourage everyone I know to get to know themselves this way. I’ve also gone for drinks and a movie solo. I’m working up to traveling on my own. It’s pretty great to know you can do anything on your own if you choose to. Plus if you can’t like you then how can anyone else?

    One of my fondest memories:
Came home after a year stationed in South Korea, bought a new truck, drove by myself from NY to WA State. Seeing America like that - by myself - from the perspective of someone who was in a very foreign culture for a year - it was amazing. It would have taken away from the experience had someone been with me, I think.

I feel ya man! I’m 25 and single. Bought a house a little over a year ago. I wanted to go on some trips because I have this desire to explore and camp in the wilderness. I kept telling myself I wanted to wait to experience these things with my future wife, but it hit me that we aren’t promised tomorrow, and if I wanted to do something I just need to go do it. So I drove 18 hours to the Grand Canyon over Spring Break last year and hiked to the bottom and back up in one day (something I told myself I wanted to do before I died). I’m planning another trip this Spring Break and it’s been on my mind to go to other places this summer when I’m not working. This video has helped me decide that I am going to do just that.
If anyone has made it this far into my comment, just know that tomorrow may never come. Your desires today may never happen if you wait to see them out. Go and do what it is you’ve been pushing off until so and so happens. There is no better time than the present.

As a ”big guy” and always have been a big guy, I can relate so much to what you were saying. I’ve learned the last 4 years, for me, that it’s about being totally selfcentered and imagining the whole world revolves around me and everybody watching my every move and thinking that I knew what people were thinking about me because that’s how I would think about me or them.
As you said, it is such a freedom to be comfortable in your own company at any place.

I still have our two dogs and although having to return to the workforce coming home to quiet has been a blessing. If you start to feel alone a dog serves as a great companion. Yes my dogs miss him but the loss has brought us closer. You can come and go when you want and only have to answer to my four legged kids. My time is that mine and we go when we want. Nice!!

Interestingly enough, there's a side of me that's not introverted, I used to front a band and play in front of big crowds of people in clubs, but the day after a gig I'd always have to be totally alone to decompress from the massive stimulation and energy being around large groups can bring. What people don’t understand is, that an introvert recharges when he’s by himself and extroverts recharges when he’s around other people. There is nothing bad about either of the two types. You need to understand what you are and be fine with it.

Mav, just want you to know that watching your videos really encourages and motivates me to go out and do things alone. And even though I consider myself to be introverted, I'll admit the last 2 years have been hard and I haven't really felt connected (pandemic and loss of close friends played a serious role in that). I let myself slip down a not so great path for a little bit...But I'm working to get comfortable with doing things by myself like eating out, hiking, and camping in hopes to reconnect with life. It's scary. But seeing you go on all these adventures motivates me. So, thank you Mav. I'm excited to see what you do in 2022!

However, a few years ago I went on vacation alone to Japan for two and a half weeks. The last two weeks of which I spent wandering all over Tokyo, the most populated city on the planet. I'm in my mid 50's and retired. It took me a long time to realize that being alone is much better than being with the wrong person. I thought I would end up being alone for the rest of my life and it nearly happened and I was fine with it. But that changed for the better a couple of years ago. If you meet the right woman you will know it. Adopting a shelter dog or cat is a great remedy for loneliness as both you and the animal win if you have the ability to take care of it.

Early 40s here. I know exactly what you're saying. I was scared to live alone when I was younger. I thought my inner thoughts would do me in without someone to break the silence. I was wrong. I bought a house on 2 acres 10 years ago for 28k...not a palace, but it's paid off, and I can reno now. Also got a couple of hard luck case cats from the SPCA. Just socializing them has been a few years battle already. Maybe I'll meet someone, maybe I already know them. Who knows. Sometimes I post long, convoluted responses to Reddit or YT then delete them. They might need you but you don't need them. There's other things you can do with your life to make it fulfilling without depending upon others and what they think.
