when you get one of these, you're gonna Love it. I'm also into old nitro rc's, these are totally incredible compared to the issues of nitro, lol. Price wise these are not bad, considering you can get one for mid 400's today and a better version than mine for low-mid 600's.
I know...my first R/C was a JRXPRO,battery and just for the frame, trans, and wheels it was close to 250 bucks, then a couple of years later I got a nitro and had such a hard time starting it when it was cold out,but these Rovan's....weedeater motor on a buggy this size...I'm drooling bro!!!...great videos!!!..and from the looks of it, behind you looks like and old lunchbox, the one with the van body!!!...if so very cool!!!
yep, that's my tamiya lunchbox. I had it up to about 32 MPH with a small 3S and a 13T modified motor. Drove pretty well actually as long as you don't steer. 250 back then was alot of money, right!!! Before I got this Rovan I was full steam into NITRO, I still am, but nothing like a nice 1/5 scale gas buggy that does what you want when you want, and is cheaper to run.
As he says, it’s all about which gear you use. Bigger engine with same spurgear will NOT change anything because the max RPM is the same. Bigger and/or modified engine, tuned pipe and lower mesh will give you higher top speed and still with enough low end power. And I didn’t get the last 2-3 Mhp out of my Baja 5B until maybe it had 30 hours of runtime. Getting 65 Mph is easy with a Zenoah 32 cc, 50/24 gear ratio and a DDM V2 pipe.
hey man!! thanks for watching. Yup, without a gearing change it's all down to just RPM. People think the real baja is faster, but that's impossible because they have the same gear ratios.
thanks my friend!! I approach each rc and video like it's a marketing class and I gotta sell the product, lol. Got the business plan all set up. JK. Its just so many others on youtube literally give no useful information, they just talk about upgrades right away, but skip over the stock performance.
I'M INTO 30-60cc W/BIRDS BUT I HAVE EXPERIENCE ON GAS BUGGYS AND TRUGYS! 40-45MPH FROM ROVAN/HPI BAJA ONLY WITH 30-35cc AND UPGRADE METAL GEARS EVERYTHING ELSE IS BULLSHIT! GREAT VID MAN! P.S SILENCER WON'T GIVE POWER TO THE MOTOR,GOOD EXAUST YES!
hey man!! thanks for watchng!! This was not a bad speed run for a stock model with a rich tune. I am sure i can hit 40 with a leaner tune, with the speed gears im sure i can hit high 40's. That would be awesome for this type of RC, considering that the original baja was a 28 MPh top speed rc.
Cheers for the video series.. as someone that's into RC .. everything!!.... I did a lot of car stuff early on.. 1/10th, 1/8th off roads plus a few 1/16th etc... Really love the 1/5th scale Baja buggies..upgrades by the thousands!!! and..... My brush cutter runs the same motor lol... I have no doubt a decently sorted 1/8th buggy with 15% fuel would out do one of these any day of the week... however.. the sheer size of the 1/5 make up for it.. I'd love one of these.. Big... reliable engines and easy to work on... and parts availability everywhere!! Gonna say it... love the fact in your first vid you had the WL toys 12428 crawler/weapon In the background... I bought one of these and instantly fell in love.... put a decent 35c 2S lipo in it and it would run rings around the Baja most of the time... and without the noise too...3S... yeah short time till he blows ... but damn the speed.. yikes!!
hey man!! thanks for watching and this great comment. I love all Rc everything too, just like you. BTW did you see the newer video with this baja where I got 42MPH after just putting on slightly larger tires, not bad right. My 12428 has not let me down yet, it's probably the best off-brand RC for the money there is, i'd be hard pressed to find any better that were not of a smaller scale. you know.
@@hybrid32494 Thanks for putting these vids together... You certainly deserve a lot more subs that's for sure!! I've Watched them, Great stuff!! drone footage is great too.. as is where you drive .. can't stop imagining me tearing up the place with my EDF's lol.. keep up the great work mate!! Big cheers from Sydney!!
thanks for the great positivity and support my friend!!! Unfortunately the drone footage is really hard to get here in the USA, the local law enforcement always harass me even though I've got the proper licenses to fly. Thats why I have cut down on it in my newer vids. But don't worry, I will think of good stuff no matter what, this is what I think of while I send a nice hour on NYC public transportation while going to work everyday, ahahaha.
hey my dude!! Yes, I def will. If I could hit 45 with this I would be very happy with the speed gears. Basically it will be as fast as a real Baja with a 2 speed, very good.
I am kinda glad that my 177$ nitro buggy with 2-speed hits around 50mph with stock hardware. Actually I changed it to single-speed transmission because of safety to keep the max speed low.
That's quick 50 mph for that, I rem you telling me you has one. I also like the single speed types because it's easy and predictable. The smaller lighter cars really only need one gear anyway, it's the truck that need a 2 speed. I cant find your comment about the under 290 dollar RC you are looking for, so I'll answer you here. Are you looking for nitro or electric? If electric there is a huge list of choices. I would stick to a 3S max system, not a 4S or 6S. Or do you want another nitro rc?
hybrid32494 thanks man. Wish I could have a fellow rc enthusiast like you here. Actually I just made the purchase about a hour ago. It’s a HSP Bazooka Nitro rc. I got it for 335$ on AliExpress. Do you think it was good decision? I am really into Nitro stuffs.
My HPI Baja 5b did 46 with the stock gearing. But I have the ss kit which came with the 26cc engine and tuned pipe. And it didn’t take long maybe 4 seconds. The original Baja with the 23cc engine and can style exhaust was the one that hit like 29 out of the box.
hey dude, would you happen to know the Top RPM your HPI SS baja got? They all have around the same gearing from the factory, so the only way yuu could get higher speeds is if the RPM was super high.
Gr8 test buddy nice drone shot.. Your top speed is 38 which is almost equal to my baja top speed but my baja did 63 km/hr in miles around 39.3 i will do one more test in the future i am also thinking about to upgrade to 3 speed transmission
Im sure I can squeeze about 3-4 MPH out of mine from just leaning it out some, but as you know I always prefer to run a on the richer side, because I also like to see alot of the smoke come out. It's all about the smoke!! I think if you just got a good high speed gear set like I am you would be pretty satisfied. In reality the 2 speed trans still use pretty short gear ranges. That 2 speed real HPI Baja only got 45 with it. The 3-speed might make the difference, we will see. Thanks!!! I didn't see this comment until I responded to your other video before.
@@hybrid32494 i think you are still running on stock settings for your carburetor and it is always save to run more rich but i search on TH-cam there is no proper guide line for tuning this engine or may be we don't need more tuning just like nitro cars needed
yup, I watched a few pretty experienced gas rc you tubers and they say that if your spark plug is too oily then it's too rich. Mine is not that oily, but there is oil on it still. I check that way too. Otherwise you are right, most tuning is a trial and error type of thing.
hey man!! thanks so much, really appreciate you watching and following my videos. We got alot more planned, I'm literally eating soup now and working on some shocks. ahaha.
hybrid32494 Haha Nice Man Would Love To See You Post More Videos Enjoy Your Soup! 👍 i just bought a rovan baja going to see how good it runs once received
congrats o the baja!! you can't go wrong with those at all. So many parts available, relatively easy to work on, fast enough and cheap. YE!!!! Let me know how you like it in a future video. Nothing is as fun as the first start or opening the box, lol.
flat out my king motor did 37mph out of the box after a good run in time.. (baja 5b) Since converted to brushless with every thing ramped up on 8s and different gearing it was doing 59mph (garmin runner 101 gps) people might think this is slow, but even on the original gas motor i had loads of fun racing and bashing about with other 5th scale friends. Petrol cars are good fun because you can run for much longer! That and i love the smell of two stroke in the morning!! Great video, After a lot of fettling and messing about I got the car to do 74... anyone that's got a fast baja knows a car this size at speed is no joke! getting the suspension trued up and the play out of the sloppy joints is key! after you've done all that the car handles and is much more fun to drive! Some assembly and adjustment required! but great fun once you do.
hey man! great comment!! Thats a fast 1/5 scale you got for sure!! My goal is to be at around 45-50 with the optional gearing and a better leaner tune. The 30CC motor can easily pull that, it's already geared too low I think. I ran it on grass once, and one hit of the throttle ripped the grass right out of the ground.
the problem with running the car with so much power is drive-ability goes out the window... i think with a few teeth difference and running 6 s (2x 3s lipos) it's plenty fast enough and those batteries are cheap so you can buy loads to have good long running time while out and about. but the best mod was getting the slop out of the suspension and steering joints!! this made the car much easier to drive. keep up the hard work :) @@hybrid32494
hey man! I'm very happy to hear you say that. Hit me up if and when you need any help or got questions. Check my newer videos for some good links and discount codes on some Rovan RCs, BTW>. I recently did a review and first start of the Shorty Baja.
If you change your clutch spring add a 990 or 813 carb you could hit over 50 easily. Oh and get a dominator style exhaust. If you get a ported 30.5 and a 2 speed the speed does increase significantly.
hey my dude!! This dynamite speed meter is extremely accurate, and has a very high refresh rate, so you don't need to really maintain speed for a long Time to get a reading. That was my 07' grand marquis, love that car.
together we would have sick FPV go pro shots of super over geared rustlers and bandits, ahahaha. And maybe good drone footage of them. Imagine how cool it would look from high up.
@@hybrid32494 I gotta shoot over to New York sometime so I can meet you man. The more my channel grows the more options I will have eventually. Right now I'm just growing it so I could eventually have those opportunities to travel more. Yeah man I know suped up Rustlers, Bandits, E Revo's E Maxx's etc lol!!!!!!.
some reviewers have commented that the throttle is not set up to open fully, have you checked it? you could port the engine, some fine wet and dry sandpaper oiled to smooth out the intake and outlet ports to speed up the fuel flow maybe.
Hey my friend thanks for checking out this video. I appreciate it. To let you know the truth, the carb on this model and every other gas Roven I’ve owned opens up fully and correctly. I have visually verified it. It is likely the other reviewers are just incorrect, or do not know how to set up correct, throttle end points on their servo. It is also much easier and less risky to simply get taller gearing than to begin porting the engine, which is risky. I have gotten this Baja up to 44 mph with nothing more than slightly larger tires.
totally agree!! Something I have not talked about here is the handling on these. Its surprisingly solid. No torque steer, good straight runs, good turning (for a 2WD buggy) and not the worst brakes. I have not flipped mine a single time even with pretty spirited driving and turning.
I'm the two stroke king. You don't need a fat pipe for a two stroke, for a hire speed get a fatter spark using a magneto that weighs more. I put a four stroke pipe on my two stroke and tuned her nice and tight, and I hit 93.2 mph on my dirt bike.
hey man!! This park is an old Air Force base. There are still some giant light signaling equipment posts there too. I was the only person there, that day. Thanks for watching!!! You can see in some of the drone footage the old pane hangars on the top right areas.
Great video but, you need to lean the high speed needle to get real numbers that you can compare to other cars and stuff. Without it properly tuned, the numbers are invalid. Oh and believe me, tuning does a world of difference
hey man, you're right. I did say I was running rich still, I will eventually lean the HSN out some and I'm sure it will hit 40+ as claimed. To me, the claimed speed is very important. At least I proved that the silencer does not inhibit performance. Thanks for watching!!!
I use to have a goped sport all decked out, I'm thinking I can go on Dave's discount motors and put a velocity stack, performance carb, and juice box and I bet this would fly
Really good video. I'm not sure why so many people are hung up on top speed. If your running that Baja off road as intended your not going to be able to go balls out tool speed. Nitro is faster but in no way as easy to attain fuel for. Electric is just blahs for me. I've been doing RC for 25+ years only electric i enjoy are the scale crawlers. I just have no idea why so many RC hobbiest get hung up on the top speed for. But great video 👌
hey buddy!!, thanks for watching!! I agree we all care a lot about speed!!! LOL. I like all types of RC, for me the most important thing is that they do what they are made for and match their claims. So if this says 40+, I better be able to get at least 40, you know.
@@hybrid32494 I guess. I mean most manufacturer claims are honestly BS lol! But you have a great channel man. Don't let the HPI fanboy haters get to you. I've ran KM,Rovan for years along with losi and HPI. The clones are every bit as good.
High quality lipo battery’s are very expensive after 15 minutes of run time there done , with a few bucks of gas and oil you can practically run all day gas engines give you more miles and smiles 😀
totally agree. I actually leaned this engine out 1/5 of a turn in a more recent video and got 39 MPH. With the speed gearing set this thing will be the perfect and manageable speed of about 45.
I honestly find the stock gearing to be really low, this thing can wheelie and spin the tires easy. A higher gearing ratio would tame it down some. I personally don't like all that much tire spinning on pavement at low speed due to tire wear.
38 mph with stock gearing is already good. Speed isnt everything. The size, and handling of 1/5 cars are fun, and they stick a big smile on your face. Is like piloting the real big car. 😅
What would you like to know about the HPI savage I’ve had three of them in my lifetime. TopSpeed out of the box the HPI savage 21 the original top end on the truck was 32 mph. The next was the HPI savage 25 top end, 39 mph.Never got much more out of an HPI savage do not need for speed do just good hearty strong trucks.
hey my dude! Yes, there are 2-speed systems sold for BAJAs. But I will be honest with you I would avoid them at all costs, it's expensive and highly unreliable at best. If you want more speed then you should get a high speed gear set, these motors have enough power to easily pull taller gears.
Nice! Vid! But no way a gas 2 stroke will ever beat a electric cant even compare its totally different! I love my baja its easy to tune, cheap on gas plus hardly has any issues! Plus the size is a crowd pleaser!
you're right, for the most part!!! As I said the gas models are not that fast without serious mods and serious money being spent on them, compared to any basic traxxas rustler VXL even. We still love these large gas rcs, just gas and go!!! At least they approach 40 stock, thats ok with me. Would you know about how many gallons a typical 1/5 gas motor lasts? in terms of compression loss and wear?
@@hybrid32494 I am not sure how many gallons! But i had mine for five years just depends how hard u drive them i think if u dont lean them out much it will last a long time my gaskets on the topend went out and just change and keep going! i just bash once in a while and have fun!
thanks my friend!! I think the follow me mode isn't that great with such a small rc, thats probably it. Do you have any larger you can try? mine is the DJI phantom 3 4K I think it can only do the follow mode when you got the remote with you. Mine uses Wi-FI unfortunately, such bad signal after 200 feet. Any advice on a signal booster?
hey bro!! pretty good results you got. I have another baja with a 29CC motor, and it only got about 38 MPH at most. Ofcourse I'm running pretty rich and with regular pump fuel. I'd like to know your engine RPM, the one in this baja hits about 17,800.
hey!! you're referring to the authenitc HPI models right? Either way the Baja and 5t models also have their ROVAN clones for much cheaper. I actually like them both, but the 5T version is longer due to the bigger body it has. It's basically the same platform other than body and some chassis pieces. I really like the ROVAN terminator version, I almost got one of those too. The Baja is easy to work on and you don't need to take the body on or off ever, thats a major benefit.
Probably very similar if not the same. The difference between the 2 is quality. The rovan engine will last a year AT MOST, vs the g290 will last like 3 years
You might also gain a little more power if you switch from 25:1 to 32:1 with the highest octane you can get at the pump and a carburetor upgrade might help to another thing we did to one was put a thinner base gasket in for a little higher compression ratio
Nice vid bro I got my Baja still this it's 36cc I been working too much ,and I need to take it to see how fast it is, and make vid of it , hopping don't crash it 😆😆😆 I did twice already, learning drive this , cost me more than drive my truck, hey bro where u get the camera I need one for test my car and the speed tester, thnx
hey man, make sure to do a speed testing video if you can with your 36CC model. I think we all want to know if that larger engine actually does anything for speed. The camera is a basic GOPRO session 4, they are cheap in used shape now. And the speed tester is a dynamite speed meter (100 bucks), you can buy any of this on amazon or ebay. thanks for watching!!
you got this!! I was a beginner with this gas one too, but they are pretty easy to learn overall. Since I can't buy more of these, I need the rest of my viewers to get them and tell us all how they are, LOL. Good luck!!
gonna work on that soon!! now that I have a baseline with my current tune we can actually gauge the speed difference. I gotta find some more reliable HPI baja speed claims to compare against.
Yeah that's always a nice feeling I actually just crashed mine into a tree at 50 so I got to rebuild my whole chassis motor still runs and all the electronics still work just bent the front frame can't wait for your video to post with your new 45 CC in it once you get it broken in thing will want to pop wheelies all day long
I put some videos on TH-cam of it when I was breaking it in but I'm not a very good cameraman nor is my wife but you can still see how much more power it has in the videos should check them out
Just wondering but do you think different fuel grade may make a difference? I think if some one has 87 octane mix and someone else had a different grade gas like 93 octane. I know where i live in michigan we have 4 grades of fuel. 87, 89, 93 and 110 race gas. Maybe different fuels might have different out come
hey buddy! good question. In all my testing I only run the premium fuel, in my area that is 93 octane. IT will mostly run similar with lower octane fuel, and your tune will just compensate for it. Some people run VP race fuels in these, personally I see no advantage for the extra cost. The ratio of oil to gas matters significantly more with these gas motors. Also it would be ideal to run fuel without ethanol in it, the ethanol destroys the rubber components in the carb over time.
Only recently found your channel . Very cool . Been looking on eBay at these RCs . Obviously you have had yours for a while now . Do you still recommend and does the motor last .Awesome content cheers bud.
hey buddy!! welcome to my channel! I actually just filmed another video with this model this week, and it'll be in a video tomorrow. So let me tell you anyway, I have not broken a single part at all, not one issue of any kind. As long as you run good quality 2-stroke racing oil and don't crash heavily, these things will not die. My new top speed is 44 MPH btw with this model (slightly larger trencher tires on the back).
hey bro! That's right! Miller field, the best long parking lot in that area for some speed runs. Many of my vids on this channel were recorded there btw.
Hey man, that is a great question and good observation. I live very close to sea level. In fact, in the background you could see the ocean, safe to say this is recorded at sea level.
@@hybrid32494 Cool, I also live at sea level so I could expect the same. I don't see any 30.5cc though, I only see 29cc, 32cc and 36cc on aliexpress. $430, $550, and $770
yup, I thought so too when editing this video. IT must all just be an auditory effect, the silencer evens out and flattens all the highs and it seems like its slower. Thats why I wanted to test it, because I also thought it was slower with it on. Turns out, it's the same. Even the low end is about the same.
I got thunder tiger eb4 with protech 3.5 nitro engine its 1/8 scale smaller than 1/5 and from that 30cc engine but still im able to achieve 41mph speed. What would you say 🤔
hey buddy! Thanks for watching! getting 41 MPH from a 1/8 scale buggy is fairly normal and good I would say. The nitro motors are significantly higher RPM than GAS RC motors btw. Gas RCs typically run at under 19K RPM while nitros can hit 40K at times.
hey man, that would be super low gearing, is that ever available form the manufacturer for these? I would be happy with a speed of 45-48 for one of these, with a single gear.
Dont forget 5th scale is also around 40 lbs heavy !!!!! My losi 5t is 40 lbs heavyyyyyyyyyyy w a 29cc ima put a gopro and that mph tester and see how fast I can get mines when its tuned properly and dont forget i got to put the truck on the right turf the tires get best grip on
hey bro! thanks for watching! I've done many REAL speed runs in many vids, and yes I've driven an X-maxx. They are quite slow in with stock gearing and 6S. In fact I'm quite sure this cheap rovan will destroy the X-maxx in terms of speed. Those are only quick with optional gearing and when you're running 8S. Those motors are such low KV ratings that they need either higher gears or more lipo cells, you know.
You buy a gas RC for the gas experience the sound and smell etc,if people want speed, brushless electric is the way to go,I have gas, nitro and electric like them all
hey my dude! Great comment, I totally agree with you!. I have all of them as well, each is a different experience. I like them all in their own way, of course I tend to Favor the Nitros pat the end of the day, because that was how I got into this hobby.
As much as I like the nitro they are a pain in the neck because you constantly have to adjust the carb that’s fine if you know how but I prefer the simplicity of the gas they are easier to pull start you just put the gas in it prime the carb and pull start it and start driving and I don’t need the big speed I live on 2 acres so backyard bashing one of these rovan buggies you won’t need the speed of course I can take it somewhere if I wanted like I said I like nitro but gas is just more simple and simplicity is key when backyard bashing I would have a blast with a rovan
easiest method is to stick any old GPS on it, like an old garmin or tomtom. You will still record the top speed (but it will take a while to register the speed once you hit it).
Why do ppl think that more hp is more speed? Because that is not true. Rpm stays mostly the same. Meaning the songs of gears stay the same. Result is same speed. The difference is the time it gets to max speed. If u change gears then u can talk about different speeds.
hey my dude! you can get these on ebay or amazon. I got mine on amazon for about 90 bucks a few years ago. Search Dynamite speed meter. I use Velcro to secure them to any RC, works great.
stock gearing too? IDK because all these Baja clones have the same gearing as the real hpi Baja. Therefore you would need either higher gearing or alot more RPM to hit the 42 MPH speed. BTW in a future video I clocked this same RC at 42 with the trencher style wheels on it.
Micael Paulo hey buddy!! Yes, the engine is fine. Starts right up and idles perfectly. Has alot of low end torque. This30cc version is one of the best motors in these buggies (stock motors i mean).
good point!! They claim it's 30+, so safe to say It will do that. The gas dragsters PRIMAL has been selling for years are race winners and even in their stock from they are as fast as they are claimed to be. So I have have faith that the claimed speed for the PRIMAL MT is realistic and achievable. We will see in 5-6 months from now when I get it, right, lol.
LOL YUP, I RC all over SI, ahaha. We gotta get together on a good day soon. check my about page on here for my email, don't know if we want out numbers on here, you know.
hey dude!! You're the only one who noticed any of my other rcs I put in these vids. That is an arm FURY. The brushed version. Actually a pretty nice chassis with good handling, but it's extremely slow!!! I got it super cheap brand new on tower hobbies a long time ago, I think like 90 bucks RTR.
haha, yes, we both like these off-brand rcs right!!! It was a very unique rc back then too, had a standard size servo, 380 motor, twin oil filled shocks, was a great deal too. Mine is fully modded, should do more speed runs with it, it has a brushless system too.
@@hybrid32494 Duratrax is a big company now..Well for RC parts and batteries ..I don't think they make rigs anymore.. Sweet thank you man i bought the silencer aswell cant get the thing to stay on to save my life 😅 you have that same problem also where can i get a whole brandew chassis top to bottom i need to put all my parts to a new frame mine is messed u
@@dayzplayer8539 you got it bro! YEs, the silencer constantly falls off, I know. I have not used mine since to be honest. I recommend putting something abrasive on the pipe where it gaskets sits on. The problem is the stinger is very polished, so it just slips off. Maybe put some double sided tape and slip the silicone coupler right over it, then higher it down. And btw, all the parts you can ever need are on the rovan site, the one I sent you. You won't find any cheaper than that.
The second gear thing on the SS is referring to the gears in the diff. The '1st' and '2nd' gears are different on the SC (I think it's the SC lol) so that's maybe why they mention them. Actual two speed Baja's have the additional spur gears etc. And the guy who said a 26cc with stock gears and pipe will hit 50mph needs to lay off the meth lol. Be lucky if you'd get 35mph out of that haha
hey man!! thanks for watching, YEP, this is miller field right behind NEW DORP HS. I've been kicked out a few times also when I fly my drone. But otherwise all good, and usually empty on this lot.
hey buddy! To be honest with you, people all think the large engines are faster, reality is the larger engines have significantly lower RPM. So I would not expect anything love 36CC to be faster than this model, unless it's got significantly taller gearing.
hahaha, YE dude!! Its best MPG is around 50-60 MPH, I always get about 50+ no matter what. Ofcourse I also have a mercury grand marquis and a Lincoln ls V8, both with V8's LOL. So the average MPG I get is significantly lower, ahaha.
ye man, I got a used car shopping problem. Well to be honest I used to do most of my youtube vids on my cars and repairs and basic demos. So it was worth it at that time. I probably own the best shape Lincoln LS V8 in all of NY, maybe even this local tri-state area. It's the only one without ripped seats and still on the road LOL. Plus it's the highest factory option package they ever made.
hey man! I run my stuff on the mostly safe side, My overall top speed I've gotten on this was about 44 MPH, I would say it's tuned quite well, considering it's only rated to hit around 40 in the stock configuration.
hey man! thanks for watching. I didn't say this exact engine in the Baja makes 10 HP, the one in this model makes at most 3.5 HP in it's stock form. There are 2 stoke gas engines that can make upto 10 hp and still be under 50CC sizes. They will cost you plenty money though. And btw, are you talking about 2 or 4 strokes? The 2 strokes make plenty power, thats why these engines are used in RC cars.
@@hybrid32494 was talking about 2 stroke. Just seems weird to me... A lets say 30cc engine making that much hp while a 50cc 2stroke (stock) makes around 5. Nice vids btw👍
Hi new sub here I was wondering if you could help me out I am new to the hobby and I’m unsure what to do I have the traxxas 1/16 mini slash 4x4 I want more speed any suggestions?
hey buddy!! thanks for the sub and watching!!! I've got a mini e-revo vxl, basically the same as your car. First thing, are you running a 2S or a 3S lipo battery or the original NIMH 7.2V that it might have come with? Second question, is yours brushed or the brushless VXL model. Your best bet either way is to get higher gearing. You can get a larger pinion or a smaller spur gear (or both).
I saw it my dude!! I responded to your community post on this in the morning. I said you need to get that guy to make a quick compilation video of your beef with the MAYO guy, lol. A quick video covering the online beef you had going on. lOL.

exactly!! Somebody understands!! LOL. I also have a Smart Fortwo, a Lincoln LS V8 and a mercury grand marquis. It's a balance. All of them are old and have cheap insurance, I like the uniqueness of them all in their own way!!
best car in the world dude!!! LOL. JK. honestly though for me I like the uniqueness of the prius, everything people say thats negative about them is mostly false. My other very popular vids on here are of Priuses. Most people say they can do 300K with no real issues.
yup, Let me put it this way. I have owned mine since 2009, its a 2007 model. Based on the avg mileage's driven compared to lets say a 25 MPG corolla(in city conditions), my prius has actually earned back all the money I paid for it in fuel savings alone. Plus it's on it's original set of brakes too, So it's actually paying me to drive it at this point. Cars are the biggest waste of money, unless you get them super cheap and sell them later on.
Legit. As real as it gets. The standard by which other speed tests should be judged. Excellent job sir.
thank you my dude! Glad you liked this video, I put lots of effort into it in order to deliver the facts!! lol.
I did!!!!!....I want one soooo bad..i'm an old school R/C fan.and now these!!!....i'm saving to get for sure!!!...Great Video!!!!
when you get one of these, you're gonna Love it.
Can I take a second to say great song choices and very appropriate volume
hey my dude! Thank you! glad you liked that clever music and editing I did! Took me forever to choose the music lol.
Fantastic speed Run and fantastic information my good freind, like your honesty, great video 👍😊👍
thanks my friend!! I approach each rc and video like it's a marketing class and I gotta sell the product, lol. Got the business plan all set up. JK. Its just so many others on youtube literally give no useful information, they just talk about upgrades right away, but skip over the stock performance.
This thing sounds sick! Looking forward to seeing more. Great vid! 👍😀🥓
thanks man!! I've gotten used to the noise this makes, it now makes nitro cars seem quiet, LOL.
Honest vid bro!!!!
Can't wait for the gear change maybe you should do a vid and part# when you decide to do the switch over!!!
hey my dude!!
You’re Honest Bro I Appreciate Your Reviews And Videos
hey man!! thanks so much, really appreciate you watching and following my videos.
I dropped every thing to watch your video who else did
I dropped everything to write back to you here on this comment ASAP, LOL. Now I gotta go get more coffee!! hahhah, Thanks my dude!!
Just got same car yesterday for £150 well I swapped my Go-Ped and a Subaru beginners car
I think I’m ready to get one of these. 🤔😉
You have sold me ordering one now!!!
AWESOME !..... I make sure to always test my GPS device in my real car before I do the speed runs lol.
hey my dude!! This dynamite speed meter is extremely accurate, and has a very high refresh rate, so you don't need to really maintain speed for a long Time to get a reading. That was my 07' grand marquis, love that car.
hybrid32494 The Russian Hammer and the Assyrian Bulldozer !
together we would have sick FPV go pro shots of super over geared rustlers and bandits, ahahaha.
Awesome dude! Amazing. I love my baja. They are amazing
totally agree!!
Good post. I like what you're doing.
For a guy who’s not into nitros I really enjoyed this video
not a nitro, uses gas an oil. 2 stroke motor. so not a headache like nitro's are heh
test parking lot looks like a great spot to host parking lot racing
hey man!! This park is an old Air Force base. There are still some giant light signaling equipment posts there too. I was the only person there, that day. Thanks for watching!!! You can see in some of the drone footage the old pane hangars on the top right areas.
I love your videos dude.. Keep it up (:
thanks so much!!! I got a lot of investigations going on right now with the 1/5 scales, LOL.
Remember you can get it to 88mph with a new flux capacitor
Great video but, you need to lean the high speed needle to get real numbers that you can compare to other cars and stuff. Without it properly tuned, the numbers are invalid. Oh and believe me, tuning does a world of difference
hey man, you're right. I did say I was running rich still, I will eventually lean the HSN out some and I'm sure it will hit 40+ as claimed. To me, the claimed speed is very important. At least I proved that the silencer does not inhibit performance. Thanks for watching!!!
Love your vids
thanks my dude!!
I use to have a goped sport all decked out, I'm thinking I can go on Dave's discount motors and put a velocity stack, performance carb, and juice box and I bet this would fly
whats up man!! Yes, you could do that, i've seen it done before. You still have the go ped?
@@hybrid32494 I don't haha thing was a beast just barely cruised it around , sold it unfortunately
ye, I been looking, they sell for some good money. I can never find one in good shape without a crazy asking price.
Same. Makes me wanna build another 34cc Zenoah with a rocket key and a big walbro and slap it on one of these
I hit 38mph on my sport and i weigh 190lbs
How is the torque and acceleration with the silencer compared to the unsilenced? Do you feel that the silencer really makes it much quieter?
EXACTLY!!! you said it! Imagine running an X-MAXX with dual 3 or 4 cell lipos that cost about 75 each. NUTS. Then you need a few sets of them.
hybrid32494 indeed mate I used to run duel 3s lipos on rc boats it got expensive and a pain constantly having to charge and balance them
I'm happy w 38 to 45 on my 5th scale I mean unless u drag race theres no need to go faster onna track cuz most tracks are jumps and tight turns.
totally agree.
Love your video bro ,After seeing this video I’m putting my order in any tips ?
What would you like to know about the HPI savage I’ve had three of them in my lifetime. TopSpeed out of the box the HPI savage 21 the original top end on the truck was 32 mph. The next was the HPI savage 25 top end, 39 mph.Never got much more out of an HPI savage do not need for speed do just good hearty strong trucks.
Can we upgrade HPI BAJA 5B SS to 2speed ? how can we do it? Thanks Master .. 🔥 KEEPBURNING! 🚗💨💨💨
hey my dude!
@@Ryan-gf3jf I am on my 7 year with mine....just took out yesterday for a nice spring run!!! I only use truefuel...,
Enjoyed your video and the end as I fly drones as well, I tried to get my mavic pro do follow my a959, I worked a bit ,but 👍🏻the a959 too fast
thanks my friend!!
Took mine out for a small speed run with a 27.5cc motor and stock gearing almost 41 mph it has a cheap stinger tuned exaust
hey bro!! pretty good results you got. I have another baja with a 29CC motor, and it only got about 38 MPH at most. Ofcourse I'm running pretty rich and with regular pump fuel. I'd like to know your engine RPM, the one in this baja hits about 17,800.
How can I figure the rpm out I'm using my phone with a GPS app thanks in advance 👍
I got the 36cc baja 5B most likely gonna put 2 speed gears on later in its life running 40:1 hitting mid 43-45MPH stock
I had the hpi 26cc Baja 5bss it doesn't have a 2speed it came stock with a single speed,8000rpm clutch and tuned pipe
Which one you think is better a 5B or 5T
hey!! you're referring to the authenitc HPI models right? Either way the Baja and 5t models also have their ROVAN clones for much cheaper. I actually like them both, but the 5T version is longer due to the bigger body it has. It's basically the same platform other than body and some chassis pieces. I really like the ROVAN terminator version, I almost got one of those too. The Baja is easy to work on and you don't need to take the body on or off ever, thats a major benefit.
I have the same Rovan, but I replaced the motor with a Zenoah g290. I wonder if it's any quicker then the stock Rovan 30.5 or the same????
Thnx, I will do the video and test it see how I do 😆😆 I'm just a beginner 👍
you got this!! I was a beginner with this gas one too, but they are pretty easy to learn overall. Since I can't buy more of these, I need the rest of my viewers to get them and tell us all how they are, LOL. Good luck!!
Whats the focus on speed? The traxxas X01 will get to 100mph but put it on a track racing and it will come in last, if it finishes at all.
Looking forward to the video with the upgraded gearing
gonna work on that soon!! now that I have a baseline with my current tune we can actually gauge the speed difference. I gotta find some more reliable HPI baja speed claims to compare against.
Get the 45cc so much more power I'm running 51 with the right conditions stock gearing
Im waiting for my 45cc right now it was suppose to be here yesterday i feel like a big kid waiting for his Christmas presents
Yeah that's always a nice feeling I actually just crashed mine into a tree at 50 so I got to rebuild my whole chassis motor still runs and all the electronics still work just bent the front frame can't wait for your video to post with your new 45 CC in it once you get it broken in thing will want to pop wheelies all day long
I put some videos on TH-cam of it when I was breaking it in but I'm not a very good cameraman nor is my wife but you can still see how much more power it has in the videos should check them out
One thing is for sure, that HPI Baja is faster than your Prius.
hahaahah, I mean, maybe!!!! Its ok, the prius is a good car to drive to save on fuel so I can buy more RC, hahahah. thats the goal!!!
My new top speed is 44 MPH btw with this model (slightly larger trencher tires on the back).
thats miller field. im working on the hangar
hey bro! That's right! Miller field, the best long parking lot in that area for some speed runs. Many of my vids on this channel were recorded there btw.
What elevation? These carbed engines will vary drastically at different elevations, probably why so many different numbers
$430, $550, and $770
Cool video maybe it's just the way it comes across on video but when silenced it seems slower reaching maximum speed
yup, I thought so too when editing this video. IT must all just be an auditory effect, the silencer evens out and flattens all the highs and it seems like its slower. Thats why I wanted to test it, because I also thought it was slower with it on. Turns out, it's the same. Even the low end is about the same.
Hola! Me podría decir como podría arrancar un Rc 1/5 gasolina sin el tirador? Hay alguna otra manera que no sea con el tirador...
@@hybrid32494 well thanks for letting me know i didn't knew about this before so thanks for increasing my knowledge 👍
If you want real speed without changing anything but gearing get a rovan 26/48 gearing 70mph
hey man, that would be super low gearing, is that ever available form the manufacturer for these? I would be happy with a speed of 45-48 for one of these, with a single gear.
@@hybrid32494 yes mate rovan rc sell them

I am looking forward to your results. We all want to know on here. Nobody seems to do any real speed tests anymore.
Just got an FG used stadium truck with the 26cc. If you have any info on this truck let me now. As far as actual top speed.
Do a xmaxx true speed run on stock gearing if you can build should have never discontinued the HELLFIRE that was a mean truggy
hey bro! thanks for watching!
Great vid do more speed test
Will do!! That's what matters, even when people say it does not. LOL. Thanks for watching!!!
I have nothing to really record the speed on my Baja or else I would
easiest method is to stick any old GPS on it, like an old garmin or tomtom. You will still record the top speed (but it will take a while to register the speed once you hit it).
Down load a gps app on your phone i just masking tape my phone on my car. My slash does 50mph
Why do ppl think that more hp is more speed? Because that is not true. Rpm stays mostly the same. Meaning the songs of gears stay the same. Result is same speed. The difference is the time it gets to max speed. If u change gears then u can talk about different speeds.
What about a CVT?
Where did you get that little speed meter from did you use to measure the speed
hey my dude! you can get these on ebay or amazon. I got mine on amazon for about 90 bucks a few years ago. Search Dynamite speed meter. I use Velcro to secure them to any RC, works great.
@@hybrid32494 thanks appreciate that
Any body know what silencer was on it?
hey buddy! I got a link for you to the identical silencer I used in this video. Here you go, amzn.to/3NxJHGq
@@hybrid32494 your the man!
Music killed it for me... sorry.
120 octane avgas will make it run faster....buy it at an airport......expensive as crap tho...like $7.50 gallon
Do you have links to the upgrade parts? or part numbers
Baja 5T/SC with 26cc stock engine run 42 mph
stock gearing too? IDK because all these Baja clones have the same gearing as the real hpi Baja. Therefore you would need either higher gearing or alot more RPM to hit the 42 MPH speed. BTW in a future video I clocked this same RC at 42 with the trencher style wheels on it.
@@hybrid32494 yes, stock gearing, original hpi baja 5sc with CY engine 26cc
engine still run good?
Micael Paulo hey buddy!! Yes, the engine is fine. Starts right up and idles perfectly. Has alot of low end torque. This30cc version is one of the best motors in these buggies (stock motors i mean).
Judging from that Baja I wonder how fast that 1/5 scale monster truck crawler thingie will go... I bet it’s dead slow
good point!! They claim it's 30+, so safe to say It will do that. The gas dragsters PRIMAL has been selling for years are race winners and even in their stock from they are as fast as they are claimed to be. So I have have faith that the claimed speed for the PRIMAL MT is realistic and achievable. We will see in 5-6 months from now when I get it, right, lol.
miller field Cool
joe cam
LOL YUP, I RC all over SI, ahaha. We gotta get together on a good day soon. check my about page on here for my email, don't know if we want out numbers on here, you know.
Is that a 2wd Granite or Fury on the shelf?
That little Duratrax rig is sweet!
@@hybrid32494 Sweet deal bro!!!..Put that 13t brushed motor in it..Should be fun!
@@hybrid32494 Duratrax is a big company now..Well for RC parts and batteries ..I don't think they make rigs anymore.. Hobbico went under after the Traxxas lawsuit..No more Team Durango and Dromida and so on..Arrma lasted because it was very popular in freestyle stunt RC world so Horizon picked them up
whats the part number for those gears?
hey man, here is the link to the eBay seller I got them from. This is a genuine ROVAN part an seller.

Nice 👍
hey dude!! thanks again!! Gonna stick the new gears on it soon and then it'll be sick!!!

I use to drive Honda Civic hybrid:)
hey man!! which model? I had a CIVIC EX with the Vtec motor. Wish it was a 5 speed, but it was auto.
hybrid32494 it was a 1.3 hybrid petrol 2008 very bad car in my opinion 😂
Does your Prius even hit 55?
Need to tune in the high side, it's bubbling
hey man!! Thanks for the advice, I will be doing that in the next few runs, hopefully it can hit the 40 MPH as-is after the tune.
Anyone know what size shocks go on these i jumped mine a few weeks ago and blew one of my rear shocks right off and cant find the right shocks to order for the rear
hey buddy! here is a link for you for the rear shocks. www.rovanrc.com/product-rv95147b
Nice
The second gear thing on the SS is referring to the gears in the diff. The '1st' and '2nd' gears are different on the SC (I think it's the SC lol) so that's maybe why they mention them. Actual two speed Baja's have the additional spur gears etc.
And the guy who said a 26cc with stock gears and pipe will hit 50mph needs to lay off the meth lol. Be lucky if you'd get 35mph out of that haha
Is this in Staten off Hylan...if so I use to run there and fly my t-28 until they kicked me out lol
hey man!! thanks for watching, YEP, this is miller field right behind NEW DORP HS. I've been kicked out a few times also when I fly my drone. But otherwise all good, and usually empty on this lot.
hybrid32494 ianjunior.sanders@gmail.com email me
hybrid32494 im gonna bring my losi dbxl there to run since I’m in love with 5ths scales now lol...keep up the good work!!!
USUALLY, any muffle device will kill SOME power, but that's the trade off for a quieter decible.
How quick is the 45 cc one ?
hey buddy! To be honest with you, people all think the large engines are faster, reality is the larger engines have significantly lower RPM. So I would not expect anything love 36CC to be faster than this model, unless it's got significantly taller gearing.
No way I’d want my 5T going over 45! You lose a servo and you basically own a weapon if hits someone. 45 is plenty
Can the Prius even reach 55mph 🤔
hahaha, YE dude!! Its best MPG is around 50-60 MPH, I always get about 50+ no matter what. Ofcourse I also have a mercury grand marquis and a Lincoln ls V8, both with V8's LOL. So the average MPG I get is significantly lower, ahaha.
@@hybrid32494 Damn lol. You have more real cars then I do LMFAO!!!!!
ye man, I got a used car shopping problem. Well to be honest I used to do most of my youtube vids on my cars and repairs and basic demos. So it was worth it at that time. I probably own the best shape Lincoln LS V8 in all of NY, maybe even this local tri-state area. It's the only one without ripped seats and still on the road LOL. Plus it's the highest factory option package they ever made.
helo my fren its a dream rc since i was kid. can u help me to own 1
the buggy wasnt tuned yet,do not hear a high pitch on full speed....
hey man! I run my stuff on the mostly safe side, My overall top speed I've gotten on this was about 44 MPH, I would say it's tuned quite well, considering it's only rated to hit around 40 in the stock configuration.
What drone did you use in this Video?
I think it’s a dji phantom 3 or a phantom 4
Did u Just say a gas engine produces around 10 hp? Give it 2hp.... A 50cc minarelli horizontal produces 3-5 hp (yamaha aerox engine)
hey man! thanks for watching.
Checkout this video that a buddy of mine made for me lol. It’s a compilation of my last few speed runs.

I saw it my dude!! I responded to your community post on this in the morning. I said you need to get that guy to make a quick compilation video of your beef with the MAYO guy, lol. A quick video covering the online beef you had going on. lOL.

How do you kill the engine and Hole shit I looked online on different websites and dam are the cheap I can afford it after I get my refund from a website and What kind of gas does it take and how do you mix it and what type of gas do you mix it with
Why u have a Prius? XD
Save on fuel so he can get the buy the primal monster truck
@@hybrid32494 well it's a Toyota and they are the most or second most reliable car brand.
yup, Let me put it this way.
