Thank you. This is better than how I was doing it before. I was finding what I need in Adobe Audition, then drag the finish audio file into Resolve.
You're welcome!
With no background music I feel like we are in a class, like a college or university class, not in a bar nor a restaurant. I real appreciate this.
😜👍
Another great video with tons of tons of cool didn't know info! so much within DaVinci and always learning and trying new things.
Awesome, thanks for watching, I appreciate you!
Every day is a school day with you, Jason - I was today years old when I discovered the Audition Feature 😁🤟
Great video - cheers, Jason 🙏🏻
Haha, thanks Gary! I’m learning new stuff all the time too!
a feature I didn't know I needed, also didn't have the free sound library, I do now, can confirm it's a fairly easy set up on PC as well
Nice! Thanks for letting us know it was an easy setup process. 👍
Love the sound library setup.
Thanks man! I’m gonna make another video with just that topic, how to set up a sound effects or music library. 😜👍
Very cool, thanks for the info.
You’re welcome, thanks for checking out the video!
Another great video.. Well done.
Thanks!
This is one of rhe things I need to acrion for a slicker work flow 👍🏻
😜👍
Another great tutorial.
It occurs to me that you could make a music library too. Most of my projects have music at the beginning and the end. I use a power bin now but perhaps the sound effects library would work as well or better. The trick would be creating memorable names to make search easy. TH-cam has a set of music for videos as well as sound effects too. (I don't remember if they are open source or some other legal requirements to jump through.)
Thanks!
It should allow you to have the audition play for x amount of seconds prior to the video to x amount of seconds after the video and then stop. Allowing you to listen through with the video playing and not having to keep moving the play head, especially when it comes to placing the play head where you want the audio placed (with you having to be more meticulous), doing that once is fine but doing that multiple times for each piece of audio is longer than it needs to be.
Thanks.
You're welcome
cool, i wish there was a way to always send the sound effect to a marker instead of the playhead so that we don't have to click around the timeline if we want to preview it a couple of seconds before the sound. btw, Waves has a clarity vx dereverb now. I'd like to see you test it in your channel if you fancy.
Or to the playhead the first time but then while auditioning, double click any clip to replace it so we could audition while looping. Some of these missed obvious functions are pretty head-scratching.
What would be a real cool feature is that when you have the sound clip on the time line for audition instead of having to move the playhead back to play the sound with the video clip the play head moves back say 25 clips or however far back you want it to go. so you select the sound clip and as you do that the play head auto moves back ready for you to just hit play
You should be able to do that. Right click the stop button (square) and choose the option that pops up. Or set in and out points, turn on looped playback, and hit the alt / command.
The audition command is a bit clunky though with having to select a clip then hit audition. It would make more sense if the command was just a double click but we’ll get there.
Another great tip, thank you. This software is just so well thought out. A question. If you have a "sound library" - made up from folder on an external ssd say, and you add new sound files to that folder are they recognised automatically by DV as part of your library, or do you have to do something to "refresh" it, reconfigure it, reload it?
You’re welcome! You can add files to the directory but they don’t show up automatically as of right now. You need to go to the 3 dots at the top right of the sound library, choose add library and select the same directory. It will ask if you want to scan for updates, say yes.
Hopefully they add in an auto-update feature for it. That would be great. 😁
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks.
Do you have a video on how to make the titles seem More professional?
All the titles I use are the ones built-in to resolve or one’s made by motion VFX.
08:00 Is it one of the standard DaVinci Resolve's transitions?
Great video. Question : How do I add or update a SoundLibrary?
Thanks! All you have to do is open the library, then you can hit the 3 dots at the top right of the sound library, choose 'add library' and then select your same library/directory. It pops up a message asking if you would like to scan the directory for new items. Hit yes and it will find them and add them in. Hopefully one day this is an automatic process.
@@JasonYadlovski Thank you so much Jason. :))
Is it Possible to ADD a sound file to an existing Library. Maybe a sound effect you modified from the BMS sound Effects and you want to name it the same but No 2 etc?
Yes, you can modify the file and you have to put it in the same directories as the rest of your stuff and then you can do the following:
You need to go to the 3 dots at the top right of the sound library, choose add library and select the same directory. It will ask if you want to scan for updates, say yes.
So having a music database would work swell to access fast stock music(?).
Yup! I’m actually working on a video about that right now. 😜
@@JasonYadlovski great. Curiously about metadata within music tracks.
Hi Jason ! Thanks for this new video :) I have two questions :
- I installed FSLibrary but when I search *-* I have only two tracks but you have multiple strange ? :) (is it a paid software of Davinci ?)
I have the Studio version btw :)
- About Skillshare, if I want to use one mouth free, how about the courses, I can see many courses during one mouth but after the end of the free trial, what's happened ? I lost all my progression of the video than I see ? 😇
Thanks for checking out the video! If you’re looking in the sound library, go to the search bar, press *.* on PC or *** on a Mac. That should show you everything in the sound library. In the free library from Blackmagic Design, there’s 400 and some odd effects.
For Skillshare, after the month trial, I would imagine you will not have access to the classes anymore, unless you upgraded to a paid version of the site. I would think it would hold your place in the courses as long as you still had an account, but I couldn’t tell you for sure.
Jason,
I use a lot of music and sound effects from Epidemic Sound. If I create the custom library, will it import / include metadata so that I can do the searches? Do I need to unzip the files? Separate out stems (because I normally download the full files)?
Thanks as always for your videos.😀
Fazu
I also use a lot from Epidemic Sound, Artlist and Motion Array, so I just place everything in a big SFX directory on my hard drive. You do need to unzip everything, but it's ok if they are in folders. Just select the top level folder for the custom library and it will look for all files below that.
You do get some metadata, but not too much. You can search for Title and Description. You are also able to see the Clip Name, Description, Duration, Audio Channel and Ratings. Not sure if that would cover the metadata you are looking for.
@@JasonYadlovski I was looking for more of where you typed in "explosion" to be in the metadata. But that looks like it was all in the title instead. I know when I am doing searches in Epidemic Sound, they have it by genre as well, so that is kind of what I was hoping might be in there. I guess I can look at the information directly on the files that I have to see what is already there.
Having to type "*.*" in the search box is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in a "user-friendly" interface
Agreed, on Mac you need to type * three times for all of it to pop up. It should just show you everything by default, then still give you the ability to search though the library. Little by little, BMD will make it better. 😜
@@JasonYadlovski Its the same with windows. You have to type "***" But if it's a big library like the free Adobe sound library, it doesnt show them all. It shows 1000 out of 9842...and you can't browse the rest
Is it a film camera on your table?
Yes. 😜
I never use the built in sound library since there is no real way to manage the library. You cannot force a refresh or delete a specific sound etc.
You actually can refresh the library, all you have to do is open the library, then you can hit the 3 dots at the top right of the sound library, choose 'add library' and then select your same library. It pops up a message asking if you would like to scan the directory for new items. Hit yes and it will find them and add them in. Granted, I do agree that this should happen automatically vs doing it like this. Hopefully it because an automatic process at some point. Thanks for watching!
@@JasonYadlovski That's great to know, Jason! I will re-visit this feature now - Thanks to you :)
Hi, I have a question. I hope someone is able to help me out. So I am new to DVR and I am on my 3rd project now, today I happen to be listening back to the intro and outro and for some reason DVR keeps compressing the music in my intro and outro, its making it sound muffled vs sharp and clear. I use to edit using garage band and iMovie and I never had this issue before... Everything was straight forward. I played around with the sounds controls on the third project, but it was only done on a side track that wasn't on my main audio tracks. But when I went back to listen to my other 2 projects they sounded muffled as well. Can someone help me figure out how to turn off these controls so that it wont mess with the sound at all.....? Thanks in advance.
Hit the lock icon at the far left of the track.
@@HikingWithCooper um is that going to just make sure they stay in place or is that going to take away the auto compression? I am trying to figure out how to get that crisp sound back that both my intro and outro had before I loaded it to DVR. It's making all of my music sound dim and muffled vs sharp and crisp.
@@LadyLPhantumhive I’m not sure what auto compression is. You would have to add compression to the clip or the track in order to compress.
@@HikingWithCooper right, thats what I thought until I noticed the sound of my music sounding as if I added compression to it when I know I didn't. There is clearly something going on in this system that most people are not recognizing. I am very in tune with sound and can hear the smallest of fluctuations and this is not small at all, it is quite noticeable. I had few people listen to the original track before and after using DVR and they could clearly hear the difference as well. The system is making all of my music sound muffled.
@@HikingWithCooper Question, does the software mess with the sound or your track when you are rendering a video? I used the render for youtube settings and that was when I noticed the change. It may be from that. I have no clue as to how to avoid any of this from happening again. I guess I will have to play around with it useing smaller projects, because as of now all of my projects are a few hours long.
hi Jason it has nothing to do with this video but i have a problem^^
i dont know the technical terms but maybe you can help me out...
so when i replay the video in the timeline it all looks and sounds exactly like i edited it, but when i export the video, the picture starts lagging and the sound (especially small sound bits) jump around and its all just not watchable... what am i doing wrong? XD
I'm wondering if maybe you exported the project at a different frame rate than the timeline is in? That can cause it to look choppy, etc.
@@JasonYadlovski the thing is many of my clips have a different framerate. i have the timeline in 30, tried exporting it in 30, 29, 25, 24, it doesnt seem to make a difference. but when i watch in the timeline, its all normal...
i also tried changing my timeline to 24etc, but its still choppy and weird
What are the render settings you are using? Is it custom settings?
@@JasonYadlovski i didnt really change the settings. i export in h246 like everyone told me... usually i click on use project settings, or what should i look out for you think?
This video shows the settings I use, maybe it will help to compare with what you are currently doing: th-cam.com/video/AbXeFcabJpw/w-d-xo.html
