I’m a huge fan of Shane, but he’s completely wrong about the commentators not mentioning his foot on the bottom rope against Razor. He always tells this story the same way, but if you actually watch the match, the announcers directly acknowledge it. I believe it’s JR who initially says Douglas got his foot on the rope, then McMahon denies it, then they go to the replay which shows his foot on the rope, and McMahon agrees. I think Shane needs to watch it again sometime.

Cornette was on the booking committee back then and pretty much said Herd was screwing up everything at that time so it wasn't that Shane got held down, he just had the misfortune of being in a company that was making some really stupid decisions at that time. I believe he was in that awful tag team whose name is escaping me at the time but I remember they had a skateboard gimmick so I don't know what he was expecting. Noone gets over with a friggin skateboard gimmick, especially if they don't even know how to use a skateboard. I remember them having a couple decent matches with the Midnights though.

Actually, the announcers DID mention the foot under the bottom trope. At least King did. Then later, Vince and JR had to acknowledge it once they kept showing the replay. It never changed anything, so I get it, but it was mentioned.
Also, I've heard so many different versions of that Syracuse fight. Some say Davey eventually got out and cleaned house. Others say he was held back by the other marines while the one guy beat up Shawn. A few say Davey was stuck in the back seat until almost the very end and the marines scattered once he finally emerged. I'm not sure which version I buy. Obviously the WWE's version was to try to protect Shawn. First 10, then 9 guys jumped him. But I've also heard Shawn was so wasted he wouldn't have been able to fight back even if he WANTED to. And X-Pac of course I heard was a non-factor.

I remember reading on some website many years ago that it was just one guy, a marine as Shane Douglas mentioned, that he was actually significantly smaller than Shawn (at least height wise, like 5'8 at the most), and he obviously beat the shit out of Shawn. So as not to face any public embarrassment of one of their top wrestlers getting his ass kicked by a smaller man, WWE made up the story of HBK getting "jumped by a number of marines" and have supposedly stuck with that lie ever since. Knowing how WWE operates, I completely believe the first story. Plus, it's Shawn Michaels were talking about here, not somebody who's generally known as a badass tough guy lol.

13:00 No idea what Douglas is talking about here. The announcers made a HUGE deal about his foot being under the bottom rope. Lawler was practically screaming about it and JR/Vince admitted that Lawler was right, but said that nevertheless the title would change hands because referee decisions were final in the WWF.

Decided to go watch the ending of the Razor match Shane’s talking about. Lawler was calling out Shane’s leg being outside the ring the entire time, and Vince and JR agreed after seeing the replay. It was a whole big scene of Douglas explaining to ref and the commentary team his leg was out. The way he tells it Vince told everyone not to mention it to make him look bad lol.

Shane's story reminds me of what happened with Cena and the Nexus. Barrett told it in an interview, they were going over only to find out at the last minute that the main roster guys, led by Cena, would take the victory. Cena had gone in and politicized his opinion to Vince and the approval was made with little to no reasoning, though it was obvious. I believe Jericho touched on it and said that he and Edge said it was a bad idea - surely enough, even Cena saw it was bad but by then it was too late
