I think the BCG Matrix is very theoretical and broad -- it really just helps managers visualize and conceptualize their portfolio -- other than that it kinda stops short. It also creates a common language that everyone on a management team can understand. Cash Cows for instance: it's pretty obvious what that means. I hope that helps...
