I can tell Nadine is a little shy. She reminds me so much of my mother regarding her resourcefulness.
I like the fact that she admits that she made poor choices, but we all do.
My uncle used to have a lime tree and we would pick and boil the leaves to make tea. Since everything was organic (before we knew what organic was), we never worry about any pesticides on the leaves. Her home is modest, but there's something quaint about it.
The area is so lush and beautiful.

You people don't understand that welfare system is only demonized by IGNORANT people who do NOT understand what it is implemented for. If Jamaica had a proper well fare system, she could have been back in SCHOOL, probably have a masters degree by now and earning WELL, not having to be battering with pigs and chickens. A friend of mine currently has her PhD because there was a welfare system to back her up after her divorce. smh. IGNORANCE is a heck of a thing, primarily among black people.

Maybe there is a reason why she decided to stay on land that she may have inherited. I am quite sure most of her children might eventually walk away from the land. Then the government or a squatter will take it. I have seen it happen many times.

So even IF the father gives money to support the child now and again, they don’t cohabitate or even marry the women. Cause they were not committed to begin with.

I don't know about the trumpet leaf, but it's true. My grandfather use to boil yam peelings, banana skin, breadfruit, plantains, potatoes etc ..... at night in a kerosene pan then feed the pigs in the mornings with it, and fruit time we would gather all the overripe water apples, pears, cane trash etc .... and give it to them too🥑🍏🌽🥔🍌🖤😁
Very true I remember my sister and I had to boil the hog food with the coarse salt in it at nights in the kerosene pan in the zinc kitchen outside. Lol those were the days.😀

This is the personality of most Jamaicans, because there are no welfare, or assistant from the state, the citizens learn to be creative, not liker here in the United Kingdom, were they lack the ability to think for themselves, so they depend on the state for housing, and living expensive. so living in countries like these, one learn creativity, strong work ethics, self reliant, which in turns create hard work, determination and ambition
I believe JA got welfare grants Jamaica isn't a poor country and not all the jamacians are humbling accepted a life of poverty .

And lots of us don't like being poor as you say so we always try to find a way out of it by being creative as someone else said. We have to be careful that our sympathy is not patronizing thinking that we we know whats best . Hence, a handout is never the answer because it creates sense that we are solving her problems.(A problem is a choice between two alternatives) she is quite comfortable with her outcome despite her decisions. It has made her strong and determined. she might be quite contented. Her small chicken farm brings her independence, dignity, and self-worth.However, she could benefit from some assistance to grow her business but not to make her feel less independent. We have to respect her dignity and self-determination.I love these humble beginnings.
