- Ultra running preparation is not easy. It requires some sacrifices like early wake up calls and getting used to pain. It's an epic journey of determination, discipline and dedication. It builds many values that are applicable in every day life. We build a thicker skin, a stronger mind and a bigger heart in the process.
In this video I share with you a training day during which I increase my training load and share some tips on nutrition, hydration, gear and mental fortitude to prepare your Ultras.

Regards, I fully understand this sacrifice and I am in the same situation, I am training for UTMB_OCC this year. Also next year I am going to try to raise the boundaries on the 128 km race Istria by UTMB track. I invite you to come if you have not been, Istria is as beautiful as the race as well. Excellent channel and content, greetings from Croatia 🇭🇷
Thanks a lot Mladen! Good luck with OCC ! Next year my objective is UTMB. Hoping that a few running stones this year will be enough to get drawn! 🙏 see you on the trails!
so increible uploading! Rafael, =))
Thanks a lot! Hope to see you on the trails!
🙌🏽 An inspiration!
Thanks! Hope it helps for going ultra or even life in general 🙏
What a emotional vlog. No free lunch your are right and accept che pain that's the challenge and what makes you stronger time by time. Also, when you are lost it's for me opportunity to better know yourself and learn. Could be some we experience in LR can reasonably translated in real life.. Ciao from Italy!!
Thanks! Indeed it can be translated into real life! Thanks for watching and commenting! 🙏
Another great video! I completed my first 30k a few weeks ago. Time to try a marathon😁
Congratulations!!! Awesome step towards even longer distances! Keep up the great work! 💪 and thanks for your support!! 🙏
Love it, never give up! 👍🏼
Thanks mate!! Never give up indeed 💪
nice job, looked like you picked a great day with the weather, you will have to try complete all the mountains in the range. keep up the good work, onwards and upwards looks like your smash 2022!
plus with your lost issue, doesn't your watch track your route and plot the course as you go, so you can see if your off course and how to get back on it, so you can never get lost. but i suppose its all part of the adventure lol (garmin tactix delta watch owner)
Thanks Dean! I sure was lucky with the weather! Great bank holiday haha as you say: onwards and upwards ✈️
I usually load the map when i don’t know the course at all on self sustained runs. In this case i knew 95% of it… the only couple of times i could get it wrong, I got wrong 😂
See you on the trails!
you woke up late :) I'm waking up at 5AM or earlier to do 10-15k sessions. Apart from that, I love your videos, because I'm in the same position being a father and husband and know the sacrifices you're taking!
How much do you eat and what do you eat to regenerate faster?
Haha indeed I had a bit of a sleep in 😂 it was a bank holiday after all.
We are all in the same boat I see! Good luck on your end! Hope these films help you find that extra motivation when the going gets tough.
When i headed out on that run i eat some bread then eat the bars/purées every 45 minutes though I did miss one round which impacted me. But overall It worked pretty well and I replicated this in an actual race for which i eill be doing a film: 34km and 2’100D+ in 4:50:00 something like that. And for regeneration to be honest I dont have much time for it… which is not a best practice. I need to figure something out other than a recuperation drink. Hope to see you on the trails!
Très belle vidéo expliquant comment bien gérer les courses et la journée. Plein de bon conseils !
Merci Lorenz! 🙏
Great Rafael 👏👏👏👏👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 i just finished my first 10k ( walking) trial 😃
Awesome congrats!! Keep it up!!
nice video, see you in the swiss 100
Thanks! Awesome! See you there!
Great video and insight into your training. Very helpful. Well done! Well earned beers and hope you enjoyed the bbq! Can I ask which metric overlays you use in your video? I’d like to use some as well. Many thanks
Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the support! I will dig out where i ordered the overlays and get back to you. Currently traveling so tough to find the info.
Its MotionVFX (for the overlays)
@@rafaelhidalgo Thanks so much for replying and finding out the info. Much appreciated. Hope you're having a great trip. Keep up the great work!
