Hi Pailin, I use the packet coconut milk which is written contains 2 coconuts, how shall I measure as 2/3 cup and 1/2cup ? Thank you for your kind reply 🙏😊have a good day. And 1 cup of sticky rice is how many kg ?
I cooked this and it was really good. Instead of making the salted coconut sauce, I repeated the same sauce used for the rice to put on top. I'm 10 years old and I did it all by myself.
I made this 2x in one week! What i did different is put fresh crushed chunks ginger on the coconut mixture. Then I put it back in the steamer and covered it with banana leaves and steam for another 20 mins on very low heat. I waited for about an hour to eat it. It's the best! We Filipinos eat it with sweet mangos and hot chocolate. It's a traditional filipino breakfast! Thank you.😊 and Congratulations on your first born! Adorable baby you have! Enjoy motherhood Pai!
I grew up with my mom cooking many of your recipes. We lived in Bangkok when I was young and since my mother passed away I havent been able to figure out how to make her recipes until now. Thank you!!!!
I love how thorough you are in your videos.. starting from explaining the past of the recipe, to sharing every minor details, including safety tips! You're a great cook & I enjoy watching them just as much as making them.. 😋 can't wait to make my favourite thai dessert by myself! 😄
We tried the recipe and it was amazing. We used the sticky rice and put it cheesecloth, and then used a steamer. We followed the recipe and it turned out great. This is restaurant quality sticky rice, so good!!
I made this recipes a few times in the last few months. My kids just love it and I can't stop eating when I made it. Thank you Pailin for sharing this recipe. I had mango Thai rice before from a restaurant which my co-workers raved about. But, the rice I made using Pailin's recipe would beat that one many times over. If you are still deciding to make this dish, just do it. It's easy to make and my goodness, it's SO GOOD!
My family fell in love with mango sticky rice after trying it at a Thai restaurant, so I decided to make it for them a couple of months ago using your recipe. Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe as it turned out perfectly and they absolutely loved it! 😊❤️ Your instructions were very clear and easy to follow. The tips on your website helped a lot too. Really appreciate it 🙏🙏
There is always a positive when life goes awry (pandemic)...finding “Hot Thai Kitchen” and finally learning how to make food from my birth place. I’ve already made several of your dishes and there’s never any leftovers. Tonight, I’m making this and your Mango ice cream for my family to enjoy...thank you for sharing your skills and techniques, you are a gifted & special young lady. It would be great if you had a book or dvd of all your dishes.
Just wanted to say that I watched your 7 Ways to do sticky rice and this video and created an incredible version of Mango and Sticky Rice! I sooo appreciate the methodical way you approach teaching and intend to begin exploring Thai cooking through your instruction! Bought my book and my carbon steel wok arrives tomorrow! Thanks so much!
I made your recipe today of sticky rice with mango and I always use 3 Horses Brand Thai sweet rice. I’m a guy so I used my zoji rice cooker to make the sticky rice. Came up perfect. Very delicious 😋 . Always love 💕 your recipes and videos!
I have made this recipe over and over and always perfect every time. I made today for breakfast. I am a filipino, we make something similar to this. I had added ginger to mine because that what I grew up with! And also, I had hot coco instead of tea or coffee. That’s just the traditional way of eating the sweet sticky rice AKA Puto Maya!
Hi.. just wanna say thanks.. I made this today with your guide 😊 it taste super amazing and my sticky rice texture is amazing.. I cook it w steamer w strainer.. my family enjoy this so much
You are the reason why we finally have authentic delicious Mango Sticky Rice at home in Germany. We love Thailand and its food, people, culture, everything! And of course this dessert! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe and all the details ❤
Hi Pailin. Mango and sticky rice is undoubtedly my favorite Thai dessert. After years of relishing it at different Thai restaurants I decided to try my hand at it last weekend. I followed your recipe to the T and it was just mind blowing! Absolutely loved it. The best part is, it's so simple to make and it took less than 30 mins. Thanks once again for sharing your recipe!
"...that it just kind of blaaaah all over the place..." CLASSIC HTK! I ♡ everything about your videos, from the most accurate and specific to the candid blaaah moments.
Another fruit this rice is good with is banana, I've tried this, & it works well. I dusted the rice with brown sugar & used my handtorch to caramelize the brown sugar, instead of using toasted mung beans. This was very complimentary to the banana. I'm half thai, and I love this dessert, but the yellow mangoes are only in season for a very short time. So, one day I was talking to my mom about what other fruits might be good with coco sticky rice, and we came up with pineapple, peach, strawberry - well, a lot of berries, actually, but probably not cherries - and aside from fruit, it might be nice on its own with some dark chocolate sauce. But right this moment the yellow mangoes are back in town, so I'm commenting here while waiting for my rice to soak!
I’ve looked up several other videos to make it and couldn’t find out what I was doing wrong but when I saw this video I finally got it right so thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to make this by myself so bad because I’ve been going to Thai restaurants every single day and ordering mango sticky rice and that gets expensive after a while. 😂
Sweet lord my ex’s grandmother would make this 🖤The sweetest Thai lady you would ever met.. Man oh man I miss her cooking and this was one of my favorite deserts she made
Hi Pailin. Greetings from Singapore. I've used your recipe twice and my mango sticky rice turned out amazing! My whole family loves it. Thank you for the recipe. I love mango sticky rice but always thought it's difficult to make. Now I know it's not. 😍
In Western India we make sweet coconut rice .....but after I tasted this rice, only sweet rice that I can eat is Thai Mango sticky rice!!!!! your recipe is divine..
I made this tonight in celebration of the thai soccer teams boys making it out of the cave safely. It was so yummy! Thanks for the great instructional video and recipe!
I’m very like Thai food, my family go to Thai’s restaurants at weekends , but you taught me the way cook. And you’re very beautiful. Thank you very much.
I always enjoy buying these mango/ sticky rice from the Thai Temple here in Roscoe blvd, Ca. Now I can eat it all the time! The yellow mung beans is what I sprinkle a LOT and munch on when I have a craving! Thanks Pai! I’m a fan!
Wow, beautiful. I had no idea all of the effort that went into making one of my favorite dishes. Thank you so much for YOUR efforts and making this phenomenal video!
Tip: while you rinse the rice clean. You can also use alum rock (if you can find it in your area) to help cleaning it quicker and the grain of rice will be almost translucent which is another desired aspect when you do the Kao Niaw Moon. If not you really really really have to clean it well until there's no starch particle seen in the water. Ps. I love your video. Great job!!!
Hi pailin im watching from the Philippines, i enjoy watching your video in english grammar so that we can understand, my husband love to eat this thats why i will prepare this for him, thanks for sharing ❤️
In Thailand if you buy it from a supermarket, the coco sauce and crispy beans are put in seperated sachets and i never add it on my mango rice. just sticky rice and mango are already perfect combination for me 😌
Your videos are very professional. Instead of simply giving the recipe and showing the desired result, you explain every step and why you are doing. Presenting variations is also very helpful. Well done and thank you. for your work.
I made it tonight. I am really impressed so yummy perfect! Exactly the same taste when my husband and I went to Thailand. Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango yummm! Thank you for sharing your recipe Miss Pailin. I am watching from Uk..
Thank you so much! I've made this recipe about 2 times (planning to soak the rice today to make it tomorrow) and it's delicious! Speaking of which, the sticky rice proportion (my favorite) served in Thailand was always almost 4x smaller than the size/quantity of the mangos :(
Hello Ms. Pailin. I have to say I just love watching your videos. You demystify the art of cooking Thai food. Made this for dessert this evening as mangoes just came into season here in Texas. Even if the mangoes turn out to be a disappointment, it will be joyous just to eat the sticky rice with the salty coconut sauce. No more ordering this at my local Thai restaurant and so much better!!! Thank you so much.
this recipe made (the least i knew) one Italian chef in Thailand went crazy. he told it's like heaven in his mouth first time he tried it. then he even created his recipe inspired by this Thai Mango & Sticky Rice (KhaoNeaw Mamuang). 👍😉
I am a Thai food lover at heart and started watching your videos and I tried this last night and it came out AMAZING!!!! thank you much. I am starting to try all your recipes.
I have to tell you Pailin, you are so good for the important things need to do for the " sticky Rice" gave us such in so good details that how to make it, I love go to Thai Resturant for Thai food as I always liked to, but now, I can do it at home, because you show us how, very good, keep up your nice job for Thai food, thank you so much.
Great video with clear explanations, especially the “why” you do or don’t do certain things. Question: you said the mung beans were “shelled and split.” But I can only find dried mung beans (green). Any tips on how I can shell and split them before cooking them? Thanks!
Still can't believe how good this was. I doubled up the quantities as we are, how can I put it, good eaters! Was lucky to start with a couple of pretty good mangoes considering where in the world we live (France), but in fact the rice is in my view just as important. Incredible how much of the coconut sauce the rice had absorbed. I would make this every day if I could! I was hoping to come close to what I have had so many times in Thailand, but unbelievably it was better than anything I've tasted over there. I didn't try the purple rice this time, or the mung beans, but maybe next time, I'll give them a try. Love your videos, and now your book too!
Wow! I am just newly exploring Thai foods and wanted to learn how to make them and I encountered ur video. U are so good on explaining things! It's very helpful for beginners like me so thank u so much! Like to see more of ur cooking.
you just answer what I want to know totally!!! like 1)can I eat it in cold way,2)saw some recipe used a lemon juice to made a syrup(which I dont understand why)!!!thank you so much for your video, and by the way you're very pretty ;D
I already have a mix jasmine rice and sticky rice with coconut milk steamed in a rice cooker and served it hot topped with freshly cut yellow mango and sprinkled it with roasted coconut.
Mark wines has a tip to add the coconut milk little by little and mix till it's all incorporated, and that way it can be ready to eat faster and it has a different texture. I like your way also!!!! Both recipes are fantastic!!!
I've been eating this for a week nowin Thailand. Can't have enough. Ayutthaya's mango though is different from what they sell in Bankok where Ayutthaya's a little unripe and crunchy whilst Bankok's mango is really ripe and sweet. Eitherway the taste is divine and best to have it from a street food stall.
I normally eat sticky rice without cocoanut and mung bean coz I think sticky rice is fine the way it is but I could still give this dessert another try with it 😊
My husband and I love to put the toasted sesame instead of mung bean but I am sure that I am going to try mung bean next time when I make it! :D Love your videos! I am crazy with thai food, also this is one of cuisine I had it all the time when I was living in Asia. Would you please teach us how to make fried rice with shrimp paste, please?
Hi from Indonesia! I've made this, it is very very delicious and this is the best sticky rice ever. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Love this video!
I find that it is harder to find fresh mangoes that are purely sweet and soft in North America. Something I've come to expect from Mango Sticky Rice. Can't wait to visit Bangkok again.
I make it this morning. But i'dont have mango, so i use ripe avocado. My avocado not so sweet, and i make coconut sauce 1 cup with 1/3cup sugar. And the result is sooooooo..... Yummy....😋😋😋 Thank you for the recipe, i really like so much 😆😆😆
The sticky rice flavour is so delicious even though I cook in the stainless steel strainer and big pot. I might decrease the sweetness from 1/2 cup to 1/3 cup of sugar. I also reheat rice next day in microwave and choose the defrost program and it is still so soft and fluffy.

My grandkids devoured this dessert whenever I made it. Thank you for sharing the recipe. No need to wait till we go to Thai resto.
Went to BaiBuaThai in Penrith, NSW for dinner tonight. Had Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. One of the most delish dishes I’ve ever eaten.
Thank you so much! I've made this recipe about 2 times (planning to soak the rice today to make it tomorrow) and it's delicious! I had recently traveled to Thailand, where I had a chance to taste the sticky mango rice. Of course, it was great, but I couldn't help but feel as if this recipe produced a much tastier mango sticky rice suited for my taste! Speaking of which, the sticky rice proportion (my favorite) served in Thailand was always almost 4x smaller than the size/quantity of the mangos :(
Wowwww ! You made our ancestor proud by showing the recipe easy to understand but more in a creative way. :D
Hello Ms. Joanna Lam For how much time do we need meet to steam our rice???
Thank you for sharing.
Great video with clear explanations, especially the “why” you do or don’t do certain things.
Question: you said the mung beans were “shelled and split.” But I can only find dried mung beans (green). Any tips on how I can shell and split them before cooking them?
Thanks!
Just read your comment. You can soak your mung bean until soft, the skin will easier to peel. Then cook it.
I also have the same problem. Did you try the solution??
Made this today and it turned out amazing!!! Thank you.

1. At room temperature is the best to eat.
2. Real Thai recipe doesn't use lemon juice to made coconut syrup.
I already have a mix jasmine rice and sticky rice with coconut milk steamed in a rice cooker
and served it hot topped with freshly cut yellow mango and sprinkled it with roasted coconut.
this dish is the reason why i miss Thailand and want to go there more

Pretty good method and certainly the glutinous rice turned out nice soft and a good bite of the rice....just did it 3 days ago.thank you.
Yummy....😋😋😋
Thank you for the recipe, i really like so much 😆😆😆
The sticky rice flavour is so delicious even though I cook in the stainless steel strainer and big pot. I might decrease the sweetness from 1/2 cup to 1/3 cup of sugar.
I also reheat rice next day in microwave and choose the defrost program and it is still so soft and fluffy.
