    my brother n law and I use a1966 Ridgeline deep v 12ft. with a 1994 Jonson 8 H.P.long drive 2 cycle and a1958 troller that only has drive, off, and reverse on the rear stern and a 1974 3 speed plus on the bow...The trailer is just like yours except we still have bunks on it...You can't beat the old john boats in price...We only have about $700 in all, just wish it was a 16 ft...Really like your boat...It's nice to see old boats still being used and not scrapped...Have a great day Bill...

      I will never part with this boat.... It is solid . My Grandpa bought it new back in 1958.... It has had several motors in its life time, But the boat don't leak at all !!! Thanks, Mike!!

      Thanks, Rivet.... My Grandfather bought this boat new in 1958.... He gave me the boat in 1990... It has had several motors on it over the years.... I will never part with it... Thank you for the kind words my friend!! ;-)

    I thought I was the only one that gets in the water and loads that way....the other boat build is what gave me inspiration to do mods on my Jon Boat...Great Vid...

    • @BillGoudy
      @BillGoudy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha!! Well it all depends on where I launch and if there is a dock..... I have learned a lot from this boat and I used that knowledge to build the boat that encouraged you to work on yours!! I guess, that is what is so cool about TH-cam... I get so many ideas and I learn so much and I have met so many neat people.... Such as yourself!! Thank you my friend!! ;-)

    Fishing is the best. I'm running a 1976 Starcraft 16 foot Super Sport, with a 70 hp 1973 Chrysler! Some guys have classic cars, I have a classic boat. We use it on Lake Erie for walleye, pike or perch. Yeah, it wasn't a lot of money but it runs great, I can handle it myself, go out at night for cats, you name it. Mine needs paint, but maybe someday. Great video Bill, I cant wait to get back in town to hit some walleyes on the lake....once Colin's baseball tournament is over in NYC.

    • @BillGoudy
      @BillGoudy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man oh man..... you can't go wrong with a StarCraft, Craig ... I sure enjoy getting out and catching a few fish... I hope that you are having fun and that Collin's team is winning!! ;-) Good luck to his team!! ;-)

    If it floats it will work. You've got everything in there but the kitchen sink. I'm surprised you have any freeboard left :) I've been catching a few chinquapin bream, they get huge and there's no limit. We don't get in the water to launch in the swamp :)

    Hi Bill
    I enjoy all your video's , and bulldog bill! You guys have great recipes, and friendships enjoying outdoor cooking. I sorry that you are doctoring for some type of sugar problem. As our body's get older we can not burn off all the sugar in today's foods. You look very well trying to cut back on foods that have or make sugar! I always like your video's, but I should take time to comment on everyone, because I enjoy them all! And you always thank me for watching! You ,Bulldog Bill , & your family live the good life, and enjoy great meals, good times! You have nice setting, fire pit, very well explained video's with other friends channels, and where to find anything used in the video's! Wishing you guys good health, good times, and your grandson to judge taste more cooked meals. Thanks for sharing

    We've all built one of those Bill.. I remember I had a 16' Fisher Marine that must have weighed a 1000 lbs.. lol But I caught more fish out of that boat than my present bass boat..

      Well ... I am not sure that you want to get me started... Haha!! I commercial fished with my Grandfather (out of this boat) This boat has seen many, many, many, fish over the years Big and Little ones..... So yes... depending on your method you can catch monsters... Since I have gotten older I fish for eating and actually I prefer the smaller fish.... But I / We have caught our fair share of big fish .. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend!! ;-)

    hi mr bill how much was the finail price's to do the boat

    • @BillGoudy
      @BillGoudy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had this boat for many years and when I made this..... the price of the wood and carpet was much lower than they are today... More recently Bill Goudy JR and I made another boat with Aluminum rather than the plywood and here is the cost associated with that boat....Approximate cost of this project ;
      The aluminum supports were $150 the Aluminum deck was $240 the carpet and glue $75 The trolling motor was $700... ( You don't need to spend that much on the trolling motor.) I hope this helps! About $465 for the basic materials!! If you want to see this project here is the link... th-cam.com/video/p-ho9AOOqPY/w-d-xo.html

    Cool boat, i'm a step ahead i have a anchor in mine

    • @BillGoudy
      @BillGoudy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha!! Thanks, Bob.... Many times I fish in an area that has a flat cement deck under the water... My regular anchor will not hold the boat, But I have found that using a cement block and some times 2 cement blocks it will hold just fine in those conditions and I have found that the blocks cost less than a dollar.... They are very hard to beat for the holding power and for the price... So I am not sure if you are a step ahead... Haha!! This works for me, in my area!! ;-) Thanks for watching my friend!!

    I like your idea on placing the knives in strategic locations,, logistics 101.
    Is there anyway you could eliminate the winch battery mounted on the trailer tongue and just cleverly connect the
    winch leads with a proper connector to the 12v truck system,, sort of like connecting your trailer lights to the vehicles system.
    Or piggy back the trailer and winch together somehow to the trucks system.
    The reason I ask I might try using a small Harbour Freight winch from my lawn tractor to pull double duty on my boat trailer and wondering if I
    could read g it that way instead of having an extra battery to buy,, just another retiree budget thought.

      You sure could wire it that way, but you need some pretty big wire to carry the load of the winch... That bigger wire and the type of connector might cost as much as the battery.... It really depends if you have cheap access to those hookups!! But, that is a great Idea.. I have several different vehicles that I use and with this system I don't need to worry about what vehicle I'm using.. It would all really depends on what will work for you!! ;-) Thanks for watching and good luck... This works great for me.... ;-)

      Yeah it's not as simple as just plugging the wench into what's already there. You need at least a 4 gauge cable and you want it to solid copper not copper cladded aluminum wire. As pure copper transfers current alot better and also if you remember why they stopped using aluminum wire in people's houses. Well you get a lot of those same issues using on an automotive application. Aluminum expands and contacts alot more than copper does so you end up dealing with loose connections alot among other things. Yes it's half the price but it puts you through alot more frustration in the long run. Ideally to go from the truck battery all the way back to the boat I would be looking more along the lines of a 2 Gauge cable or maybe even 1/0. Because over 20 feet at 12 volts according to ohms law on a 2 gauge pure copper cable your only going to see around 120 volts at the other end. Even copper has resistance to current flow and your going all the way down to the trailer on a pickup truck that's at least 30 feet so take another 25% away from 120 and it gives you the actual current flow all the way down to your trailer. Most wenchs draw around 120 amps or more as a requirement. So it gets really expensive quick to say the least. Then you have to buy the Anderson connectors and lugs and you also need a special crimping tool for cable that large so you crimp it correctly and get a good solid connection. If you don't give the motor on the hoist enough current flow it's going to create excessive heat and you'll burn the windings up in it before too long. Actually I'm thinking about the big cable wenches like you'd use to pull someone out of the mud or something because their vehicle is stuck. A boat wench probably less power hungry because boats move really easily on water. But you still don't want to starve them for current. Find out what the Maxx current draw is then pick your cable size accordingly. 4 gauge will only pass 60 amps over 20 feet. Each time you go up a size it doubles.

    WOW that boat is awesome. I always fish from the shore up here in Northern Illinois on Desplaines river. Just yesterday I reeled in a foot long bass. It was awesome. I bet with a boat, I'd catch monsters! What's the biggest fish you've ever caught and that beautiful boat, Bill?

Thanks for watching and commenting my friend!! ;-)
